Digital students The disconnect Achievement redefined Digital tools for digital students

Digital tools for digital kids
To be successful and engaged in learning, digital students need a different set of learning tools. Apple is dedicated to providing the best tools to help students express themselves in the ways that are as natural to them as breathing.
“Kids have been working with paper, books, pencils, erasers and blackboards for hundreds of years. And now, this is our new blackboard; this is the new way for kids to learn.” -John Hand, Science Teacher, Mansfield Middle School, Storrs, CT Apple’s Education vision is to help students reach beyond their perceived potential to discover their own special genius. Apple makes products that engage students and help them learn in the multisensory mode they require to process information and to build 21st century skills.

Since multiple media input is essential to this digital generation's learning, the iLife ’06 applications are the perfect solutions for students. iLife applications are a breeze to learn and highly integrated, so it’s easy for students to create dynamic and multimedia-rich projects.

iMovie With iMovie HD, students are empowered to create digital stories and video documentaries that include digital video, photos and music, as well as their own narration and text.
iPhoto With iPhoto, they can easily store organise and edit digital photos and then share them as beautiful photo books, customised slideshows set to music, on web pages and more.
iTunes With iWeb, it’s simple for students to produce websites and blogs with movies, podcasts, photos and more. They can then publish their websites on the Internet with a .Mac* account.
GarageBand With GarageBand, students can perform, record and create their own music and podcasts and even display real-time music notation. They can use their original music as soundtracks for their digital projects.
iDVD
With iDVD, they can easily make their own impressive DVDs to store and share their digital projects, create their portfolios or present a class movie, complete with menus and chapters.

“What these tools do for students is they give them embedded learning. They don’t even know they’re learning it. That’s what’s amazing.” Ross Kallen Teacher and Facilitator Rancho Bernardo High School, San Diego, CA
Additional tools for sharing knowledge
The iWork ’06 applications offer two exciting tools for students to create, present and publish their work. With Keynote, students can readily make cinema-quality presentations using a choice of themes and high-quality effects. Pages—Apple’s streamlined yet powerful word processor—allows students to choose from over 60 Apple-designed templates to easily produce everything from simple book reports to newsletters and complex research reports. iWork ’06 includes a built-in Media Browser to assure seamless integration with iTunes and iLife ’06 applications.
