Learning with Technology: The Impact of Laptop Use on Student Achievement

Harvest Park Middle School, in Pleasanton, California, established a laptop immersion program in 2001. After one year, nearly all students who participated in 1 to 1 learning showed significantly higher achievement in grade point averages, end-of-course grades, writing test scores and state-mandated norm- and criterion-referenced standardised test scores. Longitudinal analysis of results from Years 2 and 3 also proved to be an independent verification of the substantial impact of laptop use on student learning outcomes.
