Profiles in Success: Mount Lawley Senior High School

Mount Lawley Senior High School

One of the strong features of the Apple solution that saw it become the standard creative environment for Mount Lawley was Apple iLife ‘06.

The virtually seamless integration between the various iLife programmes means that Mount Lawley can work primarily in one programme, yet take full advantage of the media creativity features of all others in the suite. A student, for example, who focuses on creating and editing films with iMovie can effortlessly import music created in GarageBand and photos that have been edited in iPhoto. Along similar lines, photography students can add music created in GarageBand to a slideshow presentation of photos put together in iPhoto.

Aside from the obvious ability to support project collaboration among students who may be concentrating on different media disciplines, the close-knit nature of the various iLife applications actually encourages students to explore multiple disciplines. Camilerri explains: “Even though the various applications have an emphasis on different forms of media, they have a similarity of interface and operation that ensures a student who may be experienced in GarageBand, can quickly apply that experience to creating movies in iMovie.

This is one of the key factors in the realisation of what I mentioned earlier – encouraging students to take creative risks. Essentially, making it easy for them to really explore their creative potential.
