Making the transition
Profiles in Success: Mount Lawley Senior High School
According to Camilerri, one of the most important benefits to students resulting from the Apple solutions is the ability to make an easy transition from the basics of media creation using iLife suite products through to more complex projects with Apple Final Cut Pro and Apple Logic Pro.
Regarded widely as the standard application environments for professional film and music creation and editing respectively, Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro provide students with powerful tools to create work of a professional standard.
“We introduced Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for those students who demonstrate the capacity and willingness to go beyond the fundamentals of iLife,” Camilerri says. “And what we’ve found is that the experiences the students gain in iLife carry on to the Pro applications. Again, it’s further evidence of the fact that our decision to go with Apple has significantly streamlined the learning cycle across all the applications.”
As part of our pedagogy in each of the three media areas, we encourage our students to participate in competitions,” Camilerri says. “In doing so, they gain an awareness of the need to produce outstanding quality productions in preparation for a future career in media.

Generating ownership
In providing students with an environment in which they can express their creativity, Mount Lawley has introduced a greater sense of project ownership among students. According to Camilerri, this outcome is precisely in line with one of the school’s main strategies – engaging students more fully with their work. “Ultimately,” he says, “this results in young people who demonstrate reliability and independence in the way they go about their learning. And those are some of the most vital skills that any teacher could hope to encourage in their students.”
