Image Editing in ColorSync
The ColorSync Utility in Mac OS X Tiger can be used to modify an image file. You can use it to add effects, change the color space, resample the image, or correct the colors and brightness. Here are a few examples of you how you can use the ColorSync Utility.
Profiles and Color Conversions
First, open the application, which is located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder, choose File>Open, and select an image file.
Once the image is open, you will see pop-up menus at the bottom of the screen. You can use these pop-up menus to choose what to do with the image. For example, to apply a sepia-tone profile to the image:
Step 1: Choose Apply Profile from the left pop-up menu.
Step 2: Choose Abstract from the middle pop-up menu, then select Sepia Tone.
Step 3: Click Apply to make the changes.
You can also use these pop-up menus to perform ColorSync color conversions as well as to assign profiles to images. To choose the ColorSync profile to be used for an image:
Step 1: Choose Assign Profile in the first pop-up menu.
Step 2: Select the desired ColorSync output profile in the second pop-up menu.
Step 3: Click Apply to make the changes.
ColorSync Utility does not modify the image saved in the file i.e., color values are preserved. It changes only the ColorSync profile for the image (thus affecting how the image appears on your display). This method can be used to generate various soft proofing scenarios without converting color values of the original image.
