Creating Movies with QuickTime 7 Pro

With QuickTime 7 Pro, you can record your own movies and video postcards for sharing with friends and family. All you need is a FireWire camera (like the iSight or many DV cameras), your Mac and QuickTime 7 Pro.

Step 1

Connect a FireWire camera to your Mac. The iSight and most DV cameras will work. Once your camera is connected, make sure iChat AV and AOL Instant Messenger are not running.

Step 2

Open QuickTime 7 Pro. If you don't have it, get QuickTime 7 Pro today.

New Movie Recording

Step 3

Choose "New Movie Recording" from the File menu.

Capture

Step 4

Click the red Capture button and begin recording with your camera. Click the black Stop button when you're done recording.

Prefs

That's it! QuickTime 7 Pro has automatically created a movie file for you and placed it on the Desktop.

If you'd like to modify Preferences like where files will be saved, what audio and video recording devices to use, and what video format to use, choose QuickTime Player -> Preferences, then click on the Recording icon at the top of the window.

Make your selections, and then choose "New Movie Recording" from the File menu to create a movie with your new settings.
