  • Overview

The 45-Watt MagSafe Power Adapter for MacBook Air features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain, and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light up; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Redesigned specifically for MacBook Air, the adapter is the perfect travelling companion. It has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible only with MacBook Air with MagSafe Power Port.

      Maybe I'm lucky?

I always think people are more likely to review when it's negative than when it's positive though, but I may just be one of the lucky few.

The weight and size of the adapter itself are leaps ahead in themselves let alone the ability to magnetically lock on the notebook. Everyone complaining about price is sadly uniformed as the average power adapter from HP (read: generic!) is $90, so how can a superior product at the SAME price be a bad thing. Also whats with people expecting Apple to pay the customer for wasted time? yes they will replace a product under warranty but they are NOT going to fuel your car thats insane.

Long-term excellent durable if treated a certain way

I have had three Apple white power bricks, each outlasting the laptop it came with (the weren't all 45W Magsafe – the first was the co-axial plug-in type with a white iBook, the second a 60W Magsafe with a Macbook and the current one a 45W Magsafe with an Air). I travel several days a week. I'd estimate I coil and uncoil the wire at least 10 times a week, several hundred or a thousand times a year, several thousand times in the time I've had the adapters. But I always make sure I'm not allowing the wire to become twisted or strained. Where it emerges from the brick itself, I let it turn very gently through 90 degrees and then start wrapping the wire around the folding plastic 'ears', gently on the first lap and tightly thereafter. With each turn, I give the cable a twist with my thumb and forefinger to counteract the natural opposite twist it would otherwise get. And as I uncoil it I do the opposite. It doesn't take any time. Apple should put this in the instructions. It's the same way any sailor or trucker would coil up a rope, or gardener coil a hose, to stop it twisting and getting knotted and strained.

      Shame on you Apple

I would like to meet the person who designed and approved this cord and beat them with it. My MacBook Air (13 inch - Mid 2011) is now on it's 4th cord. The computer lives on my desk and is taken to the office once per week. The rubber on the cord just falls apart and then becomes a serious safety hazard. Another product designed to fail so the customer is continually spending. Absolute joke.

You've gone through your growing pains and we've lived with warts and pimples before but I feel like the passion for quality is being lost. Magsafe was a great idea but the implementation on the air is just terrible. It's so frustrating that this power connector falls off so easily. While other Magsafe connectors work well (i.e. my 17" Macbook Pro with barrel style connector) this one is poorly designed and falls off constantly. This is the first negative review I've ever given of an Apple product but It's just the beginning of many recent frustrations with Apple products. As the song says, "say something, I'm giving up on you."
