Thunderbolt technology supports fast data transfers with two independent channels of 10 Gbps each. And Thunderbolt 2 technology can bond the two channels for a super-fast 20 Gbps. Use this cable to connect Thunderbolt-enabled devices to the Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 port on your Mac.

The Apple Thunderbolt Cable lets you connect two Thunderbolt-equipped Mac computers in target disk mode, network two Mac computers with OS X Mavericks or use your iMac as a display for a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air.

This new Apple cable seems to run much cooler than the old one. Lets hope it stays that way.

After a month or so, my thunderbolt drive would randomly eject itself, and the cable connectors would get hot. After about a week of this, it got to the point that I could not get my thunderbolt drive to even mount anymore. I went to the local apple store and purchased one of their cables, and the difference in quality is apparent. The Apple brand cable is easily over twice as thick as the other cable, making it look like a spaghetti noodle. I've been using the apple cable since, about 3-4 months with no problems. Well worth the money.

Thunderbolt is fast but it is a terrible connection

I use thunderbolt to transfer 4k video from my cameras SSD to a thunderbolt drive and it regularly disconnects at the slightest movement. Not acceptable for a purported professional connection. Sure the speeds are great, but no point of you have to have 3 goes at transferring some data because the cable dislodges.
