    It simply doesn't work.

    • Written by from Larkspur

I've had the exact same experience as so many on this thread. Belkin knows this product simply doesn't work, and yet they continue to market it. Is it really operator error on all of our parts? My four devices worked okay after I agonized though the setup process. By "worked okay" I mean there was about a fifty-fifty chance the app would recognize my devices without my having to do multiple refreshes. Now, two of the devices simply won't show up (after the latest firmware patch). I've been struggling with these for months. The product just doesn't work.

    Wemo - Never again

    • Written by from Adamsville

I bought a wemo and it worked about a month. Last time used, it would not turn off remotely and burnt up a small water pump to drain my basement when away. Could be a DANGER to use this unit.

It works!..oh wait, it stopped working.....it works!! Uh, wait a minute....

    • Written by from Nesconset

Basically, all the switches worked the first time I set them up. Then they started to give me nothing but problems, especially when there was a "firmware" update. After a year of on again off again (no pun intended) I took all my switches into the garage where I happily tossed them into my wood chipper. An immature move on my part, but it sure made me feel good!
I promptly ordered 5 Timex brand digital switches for $7 dollars each. Plug em' in, set the on time, set the off time and voila! you're done. They even use a AAA battery in case of a power failure.
I'm pretty tech savvy and tried everything with the WEMO stuff. Nothing and I mean NOTHING solved the problem for longer than a few days.
I think these switches were invented by the Prince of Darkness! (yes folks, that was a pun and intended)

    Doesn't work with home WiFI!!!

    • Written by from Boston

I bought this item and set it up. However, in order to get it to work I had to ONLY use the WeMo UNSECURE network! It didn't work with my secure home WiFi network.

I love the IFTTT interface, but if it can't work with my Apple TV and my SECURE wireless network then I won't use it.

I really wanted to be able to use these cost-effective, and what seemed like sturdy products but they would not recognize my airport extreme driven network. Just my experience.

Does not preserve power state of power outage

    • Written by from Arnhem

I bought this device for building my smart home. Via IF (if this then that) I want to switch my central heating installation off in case CO2 is detected via one of my Nest smoke detectors. That is possible. BUT! In case of a power interruption the WeMo switch does not preserve the previous power state, it always stays off. In that case I always have to reset it manually. Very disappointed in this product!

I have 4 of these switches... They worked perfectly for a couple of weeks. One day the internet down and all of them had some kind of automatic reset and had to be re-paired. If you do a firmware update, chances are you will have to re-pair everything all over again. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. Their customer service is the worst ever.

    The perfect solution

    • Written by from Glendale

Happy to say that unlike many reviewers here, the WEMO devices I installed work flawlessly. I did have an issue with one, but after a firmware update, that was fixed. The WEMO switches have been paired with a new Echo from Amazon too, so now all of the switches can be controlled by voice command - which just ROCKS! Love this setup.

If you find you have trouble, here are some basic tips that allow ours to work well.

First, make sure your wifi signal is strong and reliable. These devices rely on good wifi to work properly, and if your coverage at home is spotty, you're not going to have much success with this. We use a couple of new airport extremes, and they're working well. Measure the strength of your wifi signal with your iphone at each outlet you want to install a wemo device. That will help determine whether the location is viable or not. Next, if you're replacing an in-wall switch with a wemo switch, make sure you've wired it correctly. At first I did not, and subsequently the wemo didn't work. And finally, confirm that a device you're trying to control wemo with will turn back on when it has been turned off. Some electronics won't do that. If power goes out, they stay off until the power switch on the device is pressed again.

Was so looking forward to this

    • Written by from Winfield

I have tried using a WEMO Insight switch for several months now. The idea and instructions make this seem like a simple device and execution. But the device just does not work. I've set and reset the rule for this thing multiple times. All I want it to do is turn on one lamp at sunset and turn it off several hours later. It only works if I turn it on manually through the app. Even though I turn it off manually before bedtime, it still comes back on.
I tried to contact tech support and was given a bunch of run around, finally getting a message that they no longer provide support through the Belkin site.
I should have returned this thing months ago. Thought I had a dud, but seems that others have similar problems. What's up with this?!?

Really useless product. Don't waste your money

    • Written by from Clarkson

Worked for less than 5 activations. Completely useless product. No support here in Australia. Do yourself a favour. No way to get a refund without a big fight. Software is buggy. Look at reviews online and you won't find many good ones.

    Great idea, terrible implementation

    • Written by from Deerfield

Software is horrible. Devices turn on and off constantly. Remote access doesn't work at all. I bought it for timer feature. It never works. I have it set for 7:30 to 11:30. It comes on at 7:30 and then turns off and on frequently until 11:30. No help from company. Very frustrating product. Don't buy it.

I've had mine for a little over a year. They worked okay for about 9 months ( June 2014-March2015). Don't know what's happened but now they completely don't work.. They aren't detected. No suggested fixes work ( intact, you REALLY get screwed trying to fix it).
There is no customer service to call.... oh if you pay $100 they'll talk to you.
Don't waste your money. Nest needs to buy this company. Belkin is a joke as far as Wemo is concerned.

I have use this application for 8 months and I had never had a problem. Used when I was overseas to water my plant.
My only complain is the limited integration with IFTTT.

I have had two of these units now and both just stop connecting to the network and won't reconnect until you power cycle them. Absolute rubbish for a remote control product. I just finished wasting hours setting a newer one up hoping they would work better now and nope, exactly the same even after the dodgy firmware update. I lost my temper and smashed the unit to pieces and will never buy anything from Belkin ever again.

    Very buggy and unreliable

    • Written by from Carina

Given the high price you would expect it to be somewhat reliable. 90% of the time the app say the devices can't be detected and yet I can ping them. App constantly crashes especially after a firmware update on the switch. Belkin seems very complacent as No other major vendors have bothered with smart switches yet, otherwise I would switch so quick

    Don't buy Wemo

    • Written by from Dean Park

After reading reviews of mixture I purchased the Wemo, the WEMO app and device is not worth the money. The app works when it wants too. I have been frustrated when I want to turn on the light and have to wait till it comes with device not responding.

Had this for 6 months and finally had to throw it away

    • Written by from Brighton

The initial setup was easy and the scheduling worked well but it became frustrating when the WeMo app would randomly insist it couldn't see the switch on the local wi-fi network and I would have to change to 3G just to turn it on or off.

Firmware updates seemed to make the problem worse until I was having to do manual resets every couple of weeks just to keep the switch working.

It finally became unresponsive a few days ago and wouldn't even connect to my iPhone to perform a clean setup so regretfully I've had to get rid of it.

Great idea, shame about the reliability.

    Total control

    • Written by from St Neots

Needed something more than a timer. Wanted to switch things on at home whilst I am on the move, out of the home, this is the best solution. You can set things to operate between sunrise and sunset, timed, motion and remotely. I can switch lights on if I am going to be later than usual, switch my Zip tap boiler on and off aligned to current needs and not have to wait for the tank to boil up for that cuppa when you get home. Way better than timed switches that cannot remotely react to your change of plans. Excellent.

Worst Excecution of a Great Idea I've Ever Seen

    • Written by from PORTLAND

Einstein said The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. That is also the description for the WeMo Setup. If you follow the directions you can get the WeMo network up. Getting the WeMo to recognize your WiFi network is highly problematic. After the 4th or 5th time it worked.

Mine also keeps saying there is a Software Update available even immediately after doing the update. I show that I have 1.12 so it should be current. FWIW after saying it had successfully installed the update, the iPhone App kept saying it was installing the update.

Now having done the update, the schedule works and I can operate the WeMo at home, but I can't turn on "Remote Access" Maybe it will work tomorrow!!!!! Insanity again.
