    WEMO PROBLEMS WITH RANGE EXTENDERS

Basically Wemo is a really useful product but beware if you have more than one switch, and you have a range extender in your house. If one switch is logged via the range extender & the other is on the main router, they may not both show up, especially when you try remote access. Belkin say that they have not fixed this problem 'yet', so maybe a software upgrade will fix this sometime in the future.

    Brilliant

Received this product today. Easy to set up. Product works exactly as it says it should. Tested it via my home WIFI and over 3G and both work perfectly. WIFI is instant on and off, over 3G there is a slight pause but only a second or two. The list is endless what can be done with this product and now I've tried and tested it I will be purchasing a few more.

you cannot have WeMo in more than one location !!!! really

if you want to have WeMo at home and one somewhere else, or even (in this, the 21st century) in more locations you will need to buy multiple iPads or iPhones !!
you can have multiple WeMo switches, but they must all be at ONE location, since the WeMo software will not work for multiple locations. Is hard to believe there is such an obvious shortcoming - its never mentioned in their adverts, but they have been promising fot over a year to remedy this situation, don't hold your breath.

    iOS app painfully slow

The app sometimes has to "look for sensors/switches" for several minutes before finding the switch, which happens to be 2 feet from my iphone and 10 feet from my wifi router. Also, sometimes the app indicates a device is on when it's off and vice versa.

    Wish I would've spent the $ elsewhere.

Belkin - please refine the software.

    Switch it up

I just got this and think it is just the coolest little device I've seen in a while. It's efficient and unique and works like a charm. It has many different uses and you can use it on the go for at home from any of your iOS devices. Now that I have one I want more. You can set it up on a timer , or just use your IPhone to control the switch from wherever you are. I highly recommend it to anyone.

    Almost there

These are great and in my opinion well worth $50 in order to stop using the wonky legacy light timers ("tic, tick, tic...") or other systems that are not as reliable. Give one of these a try and you will never go back!

    Works as advertised

Setup was straightforward. I got it connected to my home wifi and hooked up to IFTTT within minutes. Has a lamp set up to turn on and off automatically based on sunset/sunrise events, and it has been working flawlessly so far.

    Horrible Support, poorly designed software

Bought several WeMo switcheds set them up and worked fine.

Upgraded my wireless access point. Reset Wemo's and set them up again. Can now only control them via external network, not on local wireless net, although no errors in the setup of the devices. No devices are found locally after setup, just hangs.

Made numerous calls to support, and paid for Belkin Premium support. Have never reached anyone knowledgable about WeMo's. Only receive repetitive e-mails asking me to repeat the things I have already done.

Research on the net indicated that Belkin stores info about the Wireless access point the device is associated with initially on their servers. If you change the access point name it cannot be updated on their servers by the consumer.

You are also unable to reach anyone at Belkin to reset or correct the info. Am the not so proud owner of three semi-useless bricks call WeMo now....

Based on the support experience I have stopped by Belkin products as a rule..

Wifi drops and switch needs to be manually reset

Easy set up and worked well initially but every time my Wifi drops the switch has to be manually reset, not much good if I am away from the house.
Now I cannot see the switch over the internet, it will only work over the Wifi.
Would not recommend or buy another one of these products. Great idea but not working as I had expected and Technical Support poor.

    Firmware Issues

Purchases the WeMo Switch without motion detection for $49.99 yesterday. Took only a few minutes to set it up which I was impressed by. Simply opened it up, plugged it in, along with my desk lamp, connected to it through the wifi settings on my iPhone, downloaded the app and that was it. Easy. The problem started when I was unable to change settings because of the outdated firmware. I proceeded to update the firmware which is ABSOLUTELY necessary if you wish to actually use this thing to its full advantage. After a five minute firmware upgrade the WeMo app cannot detect the WeMo switch. I have reset router, unplugged the switch, restarted iPhone and reinstalled the app. No resolution at this time.

Great product concept but more stability needed

I have 3 WeMo switches and have used them for around 3 months. The WeMo app is on 3x iPhones (2x 5's and 1x 4S) and 2x iPods (2 and 4).

He WeMo is a great concept, set up is easy and the app is nice and simple. Setting up rules is easy too (eg to activate at a certain time of day or day of week). Also the Internet (rather thang just local WiFi) is. Really neat easy to use feature.

However there is a major problem.

At least one of the three WeMo switches over the three month period i have had them goes wrong and needs manually re-booting every week. The reliability just isn't there for any remotely serious use.

Come on Belkin - get your act together! Great concept but very poor execution. You can, and must, do better.

After playing around with it i got it to work right... 3 minutes late it stop working all together.... it still does not show up on the network until I do the quick unplug and plug it back in trick... the device will will not stay on the network for more then 3 minutes before it shut down again. I must got a bad unit....

    Just doesn't work

If you can get it to join your network, which is NOT as easy as Belkin say, it disconnects constantly. No other devices on my wireless have this problem. I strongly recommend against buying this. It's not ready for prime time.

If you want to be frustrated beyond belief this is what you want.

In this world of technology every piece of techno hardware has an Achilles Heal, in the case of the WEMO and the NETCAN from Belkin the Achilles Heal is two fold. One is the ISP and the second is the local power provider.

I have had no end of problems with both of these items. The power goes out for an extended period during a storm and WEMO’s lost when the power comes back. My ISP looses their DNS servers and the folks at my ISP’s Customer Service are too dumb to know that because they are in India reading a script and after another prolonged period the WEMO’s I have turn stupid yet again. They can’t find my wifi, they can’t connect, they just sit and blink orange crying for help.

As it turns out the NETCAM is no smarter. It too under the same circumstances as above also turns stupid and blinks away wanting to be rescued.

For a while I thought much of this had ended. I even commended Belkin for their improvements but in the last few weeks I have had to reinstall, and reinstall, and reinstall, and reinstall, and reinstall, and reinstall, to the point my patience is exhausted.

X10 products are far more reliable, and I am putting them back into service replacing ALL of my Belkin products. In this rural environment of unstable power and an ISP (Bell Canada) who couldn’t care less about their customers or if their products actually work, and as they are a monopoly, they are my only choice, the WEMO and NETCAM are simply poor choices because they rely so heavily on wifi to perform their duties.
