    This product rocks!

    LED technology has changed our world and in the top inventions ever! The Philips Hue is no exception. The ap is a little quirky; to be expected for early adopters. On the plus side of the negative reviews, Starter Packs and Single Bulbs are easy to find at the Apple Stores.

    Already, there are two other IOS aps; Hue Disco and MagicHue, both ready for prime time. As others begin to see the incredible flexibility of this product, other aps will soon appear. For those instant gratification persons, keep taking your Hues back. Makes it easier to find!

    Great concept, but not enough lumens

    I installed these in my TV room (20x25') and they are just too dim to fill the space with enough light to, for example, simulate a bright sunny day on a beach, even at their brightest. Otherwise the product works as advertised. I will wait until 75W equivalent (or higher) bulbs become available before expanding my system.

    Highly recommended

    I was very skeptical because I did my research and saw a few other products coming out in march 2013. But I knew Phillips made great LEDs that were bright with solid colors. After a short waiting period because in NYC this is selling out like crazy.. Lots of restraints and lounges owners are purchasing . When I purchased them I should have brought more single bulbs . This product is so cool yes the timer needs to be able to go over 24 hours but to be able to turn your lights on and off remotely is amazing and to change the colors I have this in my living room. I'm going to get another set for my basement and I can convert it to a party room just like that. Not sure why its only sold in the apple store but be warned its sold on amazing for way over the apple store price. Highly recommend product.

    Hardware is great...software needs work.

    The lights themselves are great. They are pricey, but worth it--I bought 3 more bulbs less than a week after buying the starter pack! I wish they would dim a bit more as the dimmest setting seems bright when coming on in the morning. Wish they could do a bit deeper colours -- the red comes across a bit pink and the green a bit lime.

    The software is another story. It is a great start, but has a LONG way to go--I keep checking the app store hoping for a upgrade. As mentioned by several others, the lack of a multi-day scheduling system is a problem. The scheduling does not sync across multiple devices. For some reason the schedule seems to turn itself off on occasion randomly. I wish you could permanently group some bulbs, rather than need to do it on a Scene by scene basis -- I have two rooms with multiple bulbs and generally dont need my bedroom lights turning on when I change the scene in my living room. You can do it but it is a manual pain.

    Buy this product! I love it and want philips or another 3rd party developer to make the software to make it complete!

    The best innovation since the lightbulb

    The HUE is the best innovation since the invention of the light bulb. Try this in your favorite room, set an atmosphere and almost immediately you feel the difference. Who knew that subtle lighting, both color and intensity, could have such an emotional impact? I am not saying that this is the same as therapy or a spa, but one does react with HUE more than I would have imagined. The light is also bright when you need it for specific tasks. Yes it seems pricy, but it is worth it. Other pluses are the bulb should last much longer than other light options, it uses less power, illuminates more and no harmful contents like mercury.

    Bridge connectivity not stable

    First the good news: when the bulbs are connected to the bridge, you can control them any way you want. The light is bright, and doesn't look like an LED.
    I wonder if I am the only one who has this problem, but the bridge disconnects from the internet and the bulbs intermittently, sometimes several times a day, sometimes it runs w/o problems for some days. Only power cycle helps, and no, a complete reset doesn't work.
    Timer: until now the system is not reliable at all.
    APP: sometimes it works well, sometimes it cannot connect to the bridge ort the internet even though all three blue lights are on.
    No support link on their homepage.

    Bought the starter set together with a single bulb.
    Installation is very easy, connect all, install the app and press the connect button. Nothing more to it. I simply love it, the combinations are endless, and even the misses loves it. Overall a good investment which will earn itself back over time.

    Hue shortcomings

    I have two noteworthy shortcomings of the HUE app that might influence your purchase decision. I might NOT have purchased the starter kit if I was aware of these. I hope that they are corrected in a third party app (as Philip's support suggests) or Philips corrects them in a future release. 1.) The scene alarms (timers) can only be set 24 hours in advance while connected to your home network. You can not create new scenes unless you are on your home network. 2.) Scene alarms are not persistent. After 24 hours away from your home network, the only thing you can do with the app is turn the lights on/off, adjust brightness and adjust light color remotely. This does not replace light timers.

    Set up was incredibly easy. The scene setup took a few minutes to figure out. But after that it was a breeze. I have not used the app away from home much, but I have tested it and it does work. Really like the scenes, being able to change all or some of the light colours and intensities with one touch is nice.

    Amazing product highly recommend

    Simple to setup and does amazing things for the money.

    The app itself is a bit kludgy and mine for some reason does not operate the. scheduling features.

    I'm up to 10 lights already and we're using it for our Christmas decorations.

    Would be nice if they posted clear information about if it's outdoor rated or not.

    If not I hope they come out with an outdoor rated one soon

    A Bright Idea...

    Admittedly I was a skeptic about the value of Hue when it first appeared on the Apple Store shelves. At first it just seemed like another overpriced App Enabled accessory to line the shelves for consumers obsessed with the latest iOS device.

    But a couple persistent co-workers convinced me to take a closer look at Hue and I began to realize Hue was more than a cut above the clutter of other accessories. Hue actually impacted my day to day life!

    Like other home automation accessories I can set my lights on a timer or turn them on for security before I arrived home at night. But Hue took it a step further. I can customize my bedroom lighting to relax my tired eyes after a long day or energize me in the morning. As my mood changed I experimented with more light patterns.

    Overall its one of the best purchases I've made in a long time and worth the price. It will change the way you see light in your home.

    Love this product! App needs a *little* work

    I had my eye on these bulbs for about two months and finally bit the bullet to purchase them after seeing an article/video clip in the Wall Street Journal about Phillips redoing the lighting for the Empire State Building in LEDs (its pretty amazing).

    Now I have an empire state of mind for lighting in my apartment. I love this product. Right out of the box I was like, "I don't know about these.." But once you play with them a bit and figure out how to set the mood for different situations, you'll never go back. I've always been picky about lighting and for the past two months I had been wishing I could turn all my lights off at night without leaving my warm, comfy bed. Phillips took care of my pickiness and my laziness. The concentrate setting works great for studying, the relax setting is amazing for chilling out and, well, relaxing. And those are just two Phillips recipes. If you buy these, check out blue rain at night with your girl -maybe after throwing a party with your friends in the Deep Sea setting over some Clapton and Zeppelin, eh? The possibilities are endless.

    My only complaint is that the app is a little shaky sometimes. I'll be reviewing the app in the app store so the developers can get to it.

    4/5 because Phillips shouldn't have partnered with novice app developers.

    Very Pleased Good value and performance!

    Not a problem at all. My house is super complex electronically. I have used home automation for 20 or so years. From X10) to ZWAVE . Many 2.4 devices with Zwave internet remote locks. It all works. If I was willing to replace all my new Lprize bulbs - it would really add to the lighting environment in my home. I will be happy with 3 or so bulbs for now. The price of the individual bulbs needs to be around $30.00 for it to become a success. This system uses the Zigbee protocol.

    There is another plus in that the internet control is free -- there is no monthly charge as is the case with many other systems - Philips does not charge for this. My 6 year old grandchild was able to access the more advanced featured of the app within 5 minutes of use on my Ipad without any adult help. It has great potential for advanced home or office lighting.

    From a person whose eyes are very sensitive to light, just the fine control of white light is awesome. Initial installation is simple. The Web Portal (www.meethue.com) registration for remote operation was not as obvious as it should be in the instructions. The bulbs have a little problem with the transitional spectrum color of green especially darker and deeper green, purple and orange are very good. I am very happy but I am also in IT and did have to work a little harder than I thought I would have to. But once it is all set up it is great.

    Don't Waste Your Time on this Product!

    I purchased the starter set with 2 extra bulbs. Like the other customers, hardware works great, but the App is horrible. It is not intuitive, unstable, not reliable, and when you try to sync across multiple devices, it gets even more complicated. The bottom line is that I was led to believe that I was purchasing a system, not just light bulbs.

    I spent two days trying to get this to work, and I will be returning them, with no support from Philips, after multiple requests.

    Really disappointed in this product. My opinion is to wait to see what their competition can do with this concept.

    The bulbs are fantastic. Every color you could dream of. And the multi light settings are super cool. Overall system has great great potential. But the app is quite poorly designed. In the future this can only get better and better.

    good concept, TERRIBLE app and cust service

    This is a great idea executed very poorly. They obviously spent a lot of time on the bulb/hardware and the control app was an afterthought. I am returning my entire system after fighting with it and Hue's poor support for ~2 weeks. Some examples:

    Advertised: "Can I turn hue into a wake up light? You can use the timer option and turn hue into your morning wake up call." [direct quote from Hue's website].

    Reality: You can set a timer/alarm to fade in your lights. ONCE. You have to re-setup the alarm every day, there is no repeat option.
    Additionally, I've only been able to set up 2 timers (I get an error in the app when saving the third timer that I have exceeded the allowed number of timers and I must deactivate one.) I own four bulbs in different rooms....having only two timers is a silly limitation that makes Hue not useful.

    Avoid this until the app/software gets a bunch of these issues worked out.

    Good first release.

    The app is okay but the update that I expect will come in the Spring should add better control of groups of lights, timers etc. For example, the timer only remains active for 24 hours and needs to be set every day. The fade in over time doesn't appear to work, tried several times with no luck.
    The bulbs themselves work as advertised with the red, blue and purple hues being particularly rich, yellow and green are a little washed out. Various shades of white work well.
    The es adapters are avail from good electrical suppliers online (about £1.99) and work with bayonet connections as expected.
    I have one fitted to a sealed outdoor porch light and so far no problems (avoiding red).
    If you have spare money, like gadgets and don't mind spending a few hundred quid on lightbulbs you won't be disappointed. I have tried with iPhone, iPad and nexus 7 all work as expected. The android app has a little less functionality than the iOS version.

    Tough to find but worth the effort

    Simply put, this is a must-have for every technophile/geek out there. Setup is ridiculously easy and fast. The app is pretty intuitive and works well. The only thing it lacks is the ability to set different timers for weekdays vs weekends, but that is a very minor concern. I've only had this a day and I can't imagine ever going back to regular light bulbs again.

    The only "bad" thing about it is the lack of availability. I finally managed to get my hands on a kit by calling Apple Stores repeatedly until I finally found one that had it in stock. But trust me, this is completely worth the effort of tracking it down. It's a fantastic product that simply does what is expected of it and does it well.
