    Hue lights up the room

Replaced 3 halogen bulbs with the 3 Hue bulbs in the starter kit and I'm very impressed. Aside from the 30 minutes childish fun I had of using the pre-defined colour patterns, the ability to tune the colour was fantastic, especially in areas where a brighter more blue light is required, like when reading. I would replace alll of the bulbs in my house, but the cost of the bulbs is prohibitive.

Great Idea But, everyone that I know seems to have issues

Only made for indoor use, and with a single day program not a full month or even week long program. (Meaning you will have to set the time each day) if you desire different timing each day. You can not program it for a 30-day duration.

    - Great Idea but not to much thought went into it.

Bring it back. it's not worth the headache...

Almost Awesome - but why no fade times?

Loving the Hue lights. Though main downside is lack of being able to set a fade time. I bought these primarily for my home theater. However was rather surprised that the default app and others out there, would not let me create a fade in/out time for presets :(. Fade times are probably 1 second which is too quick for that theatre experience, and a shock at the end of the movie. I'm just surprised you can't sepcify say 10 second fade in/outs for the presets - hence 2 stars dropped for that.

Other downside would be lack of bulb types and sizes limits my ability to put these in many other fittings throughout the house as I have a few Bayonet Cap fittings. I'm sure if these prove as decent sellers Philips will be adding a wider variety.

Otherwise very happy with my Hue and will be buying a few bulbs for other areas in the house that will fit them :)

    buggy. Philips need to improve

Setup timer to turn on two lights, but often only one will turn on. Also setup geo-location "My location" to turn on lights when approaching the house, but it doesn't work, and worse, while in the house, it thinks I have just arrived and randomly turns on the lights. I only needed two of the three bulbs in the startup pack, so not sure if only installing two of them is reason for my problems. I am using Hue V1.1.1.

Nice, but I can't use it.

It's nice that these have arrived in Australian apple stores and are configured to use the power supply we have. What is not so useful is the bulb not being to be plugged in to any of my existing light fittings. While is seemed to come as a complete surprise the guy in the Apple store, light fittings that can accept Edison bulbs in Australia are an exception. That is because we use bayonet fittings - they are an Australian standard. Hopefully, the bulbs will soon be released with a fitting we can actually use.

    No Bridge Found Error Message

My app keeps coming up with the message saying there is NO BRIDGE FOUND. It can not locate my bridge. I have everything connected the way it should be but nothing works. All of the lights on the bridge are lit and the globe looking one is now blinking. There is no number to call, I have submitted an email and no response.

I will add that when this device did work, I had a blast with it and multiple friends have bought it since. It seems as though that the NEW APP UPDATE had something to do with this problem. Well I guess it is now time to sit and wait and pray that a new update comes out soon or I have just wasted $200. I hope this helps you and hope yours works if you purchase it and hope mine gets fixed because its cool when it works!

    Great Concept but not usable

This is a great idea but the technology is far too juvenile to be used in the home.
I found it set up and did the job right out of the box as described BUT it seems there is a problem with the bridge as it stops working after about half an hour requiring a restart.
The other problem is there does need to be a simple on/ off switch so you can turn the lits on or off with out having to fiddle with an iPhone log on with passwords etc.
This means you cannot live with the system in your home on a daily basis.
    Otherwise brilliant.

    Outstanding Product

I highly recommend Hue to anyone who wants to control their lights from an iPhone, iPad or the WEB. Colors, brightness and auto on/off times by day of the week are awesome. The power savings from LED lighting is also phenomenal, these bulbs give off the light of a 60 watt bulb yet only consume 7.5 watts at max brightness, less if dimmed. I will be adding many more bulbs in the next few weeks.

Now Hue owners can use IFTTT to control lighting in innovative new ways. Mine are set to turn blue as a notification of rain, strobe for rent day reminder, turn on and off upon arrival or departure from home. You can set many other alerts like changing to your fav sports team colors when ever they are about to play a game. Blink or change color when you get an email from selected email address. They can also respond to communications and photos posted on your Social media sites.
IFTTT gives you a phone number upon free registration for SMS interaction with the hue bridge.
My fave has got to be using the ifttt phone number to voice control the lights. " Siri to Tell "Edison #off, #on, #dim.
Get this, love it run out and get more bulbs!!

Hue starter pack - expensive but great

There is a novelty value to buying these... lovely colours, etc. But for me the real value is waking up to a timed light alarm which wakes me up gently. Felt guilty about paying so much for these but I'm glad I did. Check out the most recent update of the app.. Geofencing and IFttt compatible makes it awesome. In summary.. if you just want some mad lightbulbs then OK, but the price is a bit steep. But if you are prepared to properly integrate these with your other apps then go for it.

Awesome! Especially with new geofencing capability!

We started with the starter kit 1 month ago and are now up to 7 bulbs. It was supposed to be a "toy" for us but wound up being very practical because:

    * Wonderful to control lighting color for various activities like TV, cooking, reading, etc.
    * Great to control lights remotely, turning them on (for our pets) or off when we forgot.
    * The new geofencing turned on the lights as we drove into the driveway, even with the Hue app closed! (You do have to start it at least once on your iPhone and logon to meet hue)
    * We can now go to bed and turn all the lights off, no more "who's getting up to do that".
    * Since they are so low in power, we can leave some dim as night lights. They max at 8.5 watts, a normal nitelight is 3-7 watts!
    * We replaced our high end dimmers ($45-60) and simplified wiring.
    * If you have multiple bulbs on a dimmer you can now dim each light in a room (or patio) independently!
    * We use timers to turn on Living Room at 8:30, kitchen night lights at 08:30, bedroom night lights at 11:00.
    * My wife finally got her "disco" ball she always wanted in the kitchen, she plays music loud while cooking and the hue has strobe effect with an additional app.

You get the idea, I don't normally take the time to write reviews but this product far exceeded our expectations. And as for cost... well worth it, saves energy and no need to install dimmers. This is the future of lighting. For now it's hard to replace all lighting because there are no hardware controls for them, some rooms are impractical to run from IOS like a closet, bathroom, etc. However, when turned off/on they default to white. We use IOS to control on/off of all inside Hues, but patio switch controls on/off and IOS control color, etc. We were initially concerned about being only equivalent to a 50 watt bulb, they were plenty bright and if made white, they looked brighter than 60 watt bulbs. We purchased ours are Apple stores.

Why does this product costs 25% more in Australia ? Its costs 199.95 in America and a whopping 245 AUD in Australia? Hey which demented one did the math?

I bought the starter set in December and installed all three lamps in my living room. One in a large white globe which sit in the floor, another under a frosted glass table that holds my computer and the last in a uptight standard lamp. The three lamp provide more than enough light for reading and general lighting needs but really come into their own when used for setting moods. We love them when watching movies, especially as I downloaded some cinema themes. They have been faultless in their operation, no issues at all. They don't flicker which one reviewer stated, so I can only assume there is some error in his setup. They use little energy and we live them.

    Appalling Product

Apple should be ashamed of selling such an appalling product.

Replacing existing low energy bulbs, the Hue bulbs (2 of 4) flickered continually, which makes being in the same room distracting.

Periodically, at different frequencies, but at one point about once an hour, the bulbs switched themselves off and back on. Which would be annoying in any device, but stops a light being useful at all.

Colours were OK, and the setup was as simple as promised, but the basic product is just useless and not fit for purpose.
    And expensive.

    Buckets of fun

Make all your friends jealous and your neighbors curious. They are easy to install. Just install in the bulbs, plug in the bridge and hardwire it to your router, download the app and watch in awe as your whole room changes! The app is fairly easy to use (could be better). My husband and I are going to have light battles and scare the babysitter.

Cool but not ready for prime time

The Hue is a brilliant concept, and the lights themselves are great and easy to hook up. The app, however, is disappointingly rudimentary, and until that is fixed, it renders this system little more than a gimmick. One example is that you have to set the timer each time you want the lights to come on -- there is no way to set daily, recurring times. Also, if you switch the lights off with a switch, they will default to their plain color, so you pretty much have to rely on the app -- and once the novelty of controlling lights with your phone wears off, that can get pretty old.

600 lumens is not such a bright idea

If you predominantly use 60W bulbs in your house, then bear in mind that while those put out around 800 lumens, these Hue bulbs only manage 600 lumens, which is obviously a fair bit darker.

So while these are great for use in rooms that never need to be brightly lit, they're not really suitable for kitchens or study areas.
