bought it not even a couple weeks ago. Tried it out on my Macbook pro.First, tried it on my TV and it worked great. Then on the day of my presentation, I used it on my projector and worked amazing. Got an A+ and was happy the next day. Really great buy. good for school and business projects.

If you have problems with your adapter, try disconnecting it from your MacBook Air while maintaining connection from the adapter to your projector or any display with VGA port.
Alternatively, check it out under the finder, which should be one of the icons on your dock.

    AWESOME !!

Forget all the other bad reviews because apple has made ( i think ) a new version of it
( also cas it has a box as the cover unlike the earlier ones). IT has two mode... mirror and the other one is that only presentations will be seen on screen....nothing else.
Well it works perfectly with my LG and beautiful RESOLUTION! ( didn't expect that! ).

    Testing it!

I am using the adapter with a MBP (MacBook Pro) mid 2013; it is connected to the Lightning Port which doubles as a Mini Display Port.

So far, I've used it for about a week with two monitors a 24" Dell S2409W (1920 x 1080 native) and a 20" HP W2072a (1600 x 900 native) both flat panels. It has been used in both the "Extended" and "Clamshell" modes, so the external monitor is either the second extended monitor or used alone as the primary monitor in clamshell.

The adapter feels slightly warm to the touch, but it is certainly not hot. It fits snugly into the Lightning/Mini Display Port and feels secure while the other end holds the VGA cord well enough.

No problems thus far (again only one week and two flat panel monitors). Perhaps, I can comment or append this after a longer period of time has passed.

Although, the other reviews of premature failure have me a bit curious and scared. I have an older version (Mini DVI to VGA) that I have used since 2007 to now (Feb 2013) on my old white MacBook and it has always been reliable.

Hopefully, this new adapter proves as reliable as the old.

Audio, for me, is handled by plugging my external speakers into the microphone jack, and that works well too.

For now, the Mini Display Port to VGA adapter gets 5 stars as it works well in my, as yet, limited experience.

    Analog Video versus Digital Video

    • Written by from Centreville

I purchased this to connect my imac 2009 2.66 GHz intel core 2 duo to an external HD monitor. It was to replace Moshi's Mini Displayport to HDMI adaptor, which was causing problems to my system (rattling noises, computer overdrive, etc)

imac 2009 2.66 GHz intel core 2 duo and early imacs without HDMI ports are technically pushing out Analog Video. To use Mini Displayport to HDMI adaptors is an unnatural process and compromises your computer because it is up-converting analog video into digital video when it connects to your external monitor. If you notice, Apple does not produce a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor. They dont want to be accountable for something that doesnt really work but kinda does, like Mini DisplayPort to HDMI.

Mini DisplayPort to VGA is your best bet for imacs without hdmi out ports.

    Works like a charm!

I almost purchased a wireless DVD player just so I could stream Netflix, Vudu, Hulu, and Itunes movies.....but went in and asked if there was an adapter for our macbooks. I already had the HDMI connector for the Sony Bravia I have. Best $29.00 I've spent this year. For those people who are having trouble setting it up, you may have to adjust your settings to get it to work. My daughter's MacBook Pro set up differently than my MacBook. Hers seemed to sync right away. It took changing my settings to sync with my TV. There just isn't enough hours in the day to watch everything we have access to now!

    Works very well

I must say i'm quite impressed with the adapter. While I was disappointed that Apple charges $30+ for it and it really should be provided as standard with a new Macbook Pro, that's a whole other story. i have used it on my 2009 13" MBP, Pioneer 507 XDA plasma, 32" LCD TV, various data projectors and never had a problem with it. My experience is It doesn't matter if the MBP is on or off, or whether the tv is on or off, it just seems to work. Also, cloning the MBP display or extending the screen is simple and never causes a problem.
The only problem i've had with it is if i let the MBP go into 'sleep' mode, disconnect the adapter and 'wake' the MBP, sometimes i can't get a picture back on the MBP and have to restart it. It was never a problem with OS X Snow Leopard, only with Lion; so i'm blaming Lion for this problem.

    Works as advertised

I purchased this last week with some trepidation due to mixed reviews here. I tried it out on projectors and displays at work. Here are my results:

Displays: Dell U2410 and HP LA2205wg both were auto detected and worked fine
Projectors: Panasonic LB30U, Panasonic PT-L735U and Optima DLP were auto detected and worked fine.

I am using a late 2011 15" Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion (10.8.2) with the auto switching of graphics enabled. I went from one display/projector to the next without rebooting or fiddling with the display settings. I never had any difficulties at all.

I am pleased with my purchase so far.

    Great Product!!!!

I just purchased this Mini Displayport to VGA ADAPTER on 10-19-12 and must say i am really pleased. Bought it to use with my new macbook pro, but i was really nervous about all the reviews saying that it doesn't work. Well for those of you that were like me if you have a monitor or TV with a VGA port chances are its going to work. I have used it on various 1080p dell monitors. I wish i could say why all these people are having bad experiences maybe i was just lucky? Besides that i think product does work its the monitors or tvs that are having the problems.

Although you have to plug the VGA end in before you plug in the mini display port, the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter works great in my 2012 Macbook Pro. I run it through the thunderbolt port and it works great.

Just thought I'd say in response to other reviewers using Samsung TVs that this adapter works fine. Just make sure you are on mirror settings which is under System Preferences - Display - Arrangement, and you should be fine!
