Works Perfectly- even on Samsung TV!

    • Written by from Arundel

I was a little worried about buying this after reading the reviews, but figured that having worked as an AV technician, I'd be able to make it work, even if it wasn't as simple as the Mini-DVI on my old PowerBook G4.

It arrived today. I plugged it into my Samsung TV to test it. It worked- I plugged it in, it worked. I checked mirroring the display still worked fine. It did. (I usually use a split screen, but the mirror is useful at times).

I can only conclude that the most common problem with this bit of kit is "user error". It sits much more securely in the socket than the mini-DVI did, which frequently fell out, and works without an issue. I look forward to using my Mac at work for my presentations, as I've been stuck with their old Windows PC for months.

Only downer is the price- but since it stops the problem of dead/damaged VGA ports common on Windows PCs, I can't complain too much. I'd sooner pay £21 to replace the adapter than £££ to replace the port.

Well done, Apple. This MacBook Pro user is delighted (again!)

    Very nice adapter

I really don't know why people say theirs don't work with the TV especially Samsung's. I don't have Samsung's TV, but mine works great. It works with Dell screen, Sony TV, Acer projector... There is only one Con in my opinion. It is just way too pricy. Otherwise, this is just a fabulous product.

Perfect for HP L1710 VGA LCD to Mac Pro 5,1

    • Written by from Boulder

My 20-inch Apple Cinema Display plugged right in to the ATI Radeon 5770 Display Card DVI port in my new Mac Pro 5,1 but I needed the MB572Z/A Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to connect my HP L1710 17-inch VGA LCD.

The DP to VGA Adapter works so well that I am seriously considering getting another HP L1710 Display and another MB572Z/A Adapter for a three-display configuration; the Radeon 5770 can handle one DVI display and two VGA displays.

    Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter

Connected from iMac home computer to a HP vp17 display and works perfect! All you do is insert cable into mac and connect display to cable. The imac recognizes without doing anything. Then to select your personal configuration, click the apple on the top of the imac, go to system preferences, go to display and thats it - I hit arrangement and made the monitor on the left because it defaults to the right. Great job apple!

    Just plug in and go.
Have used the adaptor on a variety of projectors and smartboards. Works every time.

Even played with it at home and connected to the Panasonic Plasma, again worked great.

    Works Great

I have no trouble at all with this product except loosing them! I'm buying my third today. I had much more trouble with the previous generation of video out to VGA converters that worked with my old laptop. The mini DVI adapter has worked consistently for video output to a variety of overhead projectors (10+) hundreds of times.

Apple does charge a lot for all its cables, put in my experience they are more reliable than 3rd party cables.

    Excellent Adapter

    • Written by from Birmingham

Bought this adapter in September 2011 to use my Mac during presentations and it has been excellent. Abosultely no problems with it. Quality of the images are great and it doesn't slow down the speed of the presentation, so everything happens in real time, without delay.

Great bit of kit. Would definately recommend!

Works perfectly from Mac mini to Samsung TV

    • Written by from Hong Kong

I have just bought a 2011 Mac mini and connected it from the Thunderbolt port to my rather old Samsung LA37R71B TV using this adapter. It works perfectly.

    I have set the Mac mini to 1280 x 768 60Hz.

It's a much better picture on the TV using this instead of using the straight HDMI to HDMI which I also tried.

Works perfectly. MacBook to Plasma TV

    • Written by from London

I wanted this so that I can mirror what's on my MacBook (late 2009 model) onto a Panasonic plasma screen (non HD & 8 years old). The item arrived very quickly through the post and has worked perfectly. I can see mirrored exactly what is on the Mac screen onto the TV screen.

    You can surf the web.
    Watch videos from your MacBook.
Watch BBC iPlayer and other iplayers.
    View photographs from your MacBook.

The sound will come from your MacBook, however you can easily attach a speaker to your MacBook via it's 3.5mm jack output.

You can also have different things displaying at the same time on the two screens (Mac & TV) being controlled from the Mac. Sounds a little confusing at first, becomes clear when you play about with it a little. You may need to adjust the resolution in your Mac's preferences to get the desired size you want on your TV screen.

I found looking at YouTube videos very useful in helping with the setup.

Bought this for my MacBook Air 11" and it worked within a few seconds of connecting it all up. Works perfect. Full HD (1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz). Would highly recommend.

Two years of use with no problems

    • Written by from Broomfield

I bought this adapter in Nov 2009 to use with my then-new MBP for use in interfacing with our Proxima projectors for meetings, approx. 8-10 a month. So, that's now two years without any weird quirks or issues (knock on wood?). Then again I take great care in re-packing and protecting the accessories I use for for this laptop when finished using them and am putting it all away... for example this VGA adapter... so therein might be a good reason these fail for others (certainly not in all cases). I read some reviews and had to wonder... how carefully are they treating the stuff? How honest are they being with themselves? Just sayin'.

Works perfectly straight out of the box

    • Written by from Lytham St Annes

i don't understand all the negative comments, I am a new Mac user so still learning the OS differences but the VGA adapter gave me no trouble at all just plugged it in selected the VGA source input on my 42" Nikai flat screen LCD TV to find my laptop view mirrored on the TV.

I did try different resolutions from my MAC System preferences - Hardware - Displays. I found that the only resolutions that worked were 60 Hz frequencies.

One final note although I selected different resolutions to get a full screen picture I found that once I closed the laptop clamshell screen the TV automatically became fullscreen as the main view with the laptop screen automatically shutting down. I could then drive my laptop, view videos from iTunes by using the Trackpad. Very pleased with the VGA Adapter.

Simply the perfect choice for projectors

I have recently bought Infocus IN102 DLP projector and connected my macbook 2010 model with it through this cable and believe me it worked as a charm with nice crisp and clear image of about 100 inches. I would stongly recommend this product though bit costly but its worth the money you spend.

I use this to attach my macbook air to a projector. I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews as they work fine and last a while. It is a little expensive I guess but it is good quality and does seem to last a while. I would recommend this.

bought it few weeks ago, I used it for my Keynote presentation. This adapter is simple, elegant and easy-to-use. In my opinion I think the owner is responsible for the care and use of this device. The first time i plugged it in my MacBook Pro Thunderbolt port it was easy, effortless. works fine. Thumbs up APPLE :) I wish that there would be an original Apple Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter.

The adapter works fine and perfect for multitasking. Was just wondering if its possible to attach another splitter to the VGA part of the adapter so I can use 2 monitors + my macbook instead of only one external monitor.

I got this a few years ago to connect my [then] new MBP to projectors & TVs. It has never failed on a variety of such devices and has even come through when another person's aftermarket version failed.
