Excellent Router- Tricky to set up with Line of Sight Wireless Providers

    • Written by from Calgary

Wireless internet providers with line of sight radio systems (non-cable/ADSL) must set up your router for security reasons before your internet will work on this router. Do not plug the Ethernet cable directly from the router to your computer before the provider has registered your router. The router will pick up your computers IP address and not the IP from the internet provider and it is challenging to re-register the proper IP on the Airport Express router after it picked up your computer. Also the router must not be in the Bridge Mode. Set it for DHCP mode. After the provider has registered the router, you must un-plug the wireless system from the provider and the power from the router. Power up the providers system first, wait 2 minutes then power up the Airport Express router. Once it powers up again, it will automatically register the proper IP address and your online. Very happy with the small footprint router and have 5 bars on my new Apple TV unit 40 feet away through walls and furnace room. Working great. Very happy so far.

    Absolutely Excellent

I brought the AirPort Express with the intention to use in my student flat. I have tested it at home and it works well in quite a large house so I am looking forward to using this in a much smaller area and less devices. Thank you Apple!

    Color me impressed

Because Apple allows anyone to post a review without verifying if they actually made a purchase I'm suspicious of the negative reviews. With that being said I consider this one of my best purchases from Apple. I was able to return my Xfinity router/modem combo that I was renting and have this up and running with just my iPhone! First off it's incredibly easy to set up just download the Airport Utility App and follow the simple instructions! As for as performance, I'm experiencing much better performance than I was experiencing with the Xfinity SMC router. I literally thought that I was going to have to pay for the top of the line internet service to ge5 the performance that I wanted. No more buffering and no more difficulty logging onto my game online. I highly recommend this product!!

    Excellent WIFI Router

    • Written by from Clydebank

Got one of these today to take over from the router supplied by Sky in the UK. Setup was extremely easy and quick using Airport utility on my Mac, iPhone & iPad. The connection seems more stable and functions like handoff seem to work fine now. You have the option of extending your network or as I did disable the Sky WIFI access point and use it purely as a modem letting the Airport Express handle all WIFI. The only downsides were the USB port on the back can't be used with an external drive as a quasi time capsule (you need an Airport Extreme for that). And the fact it was harder to configure the WIFI connection on my Daughters Windows 8 laptop, which wasn't too much of a surprise.

Does what it says on the tin

Bought this today to extend the wifi range upstairs in the house where I have a problem with single strength. I took the Airport Express out of the box connected into the power socket in a location midway from my Airport Extreme and where the weak signal spot is. Within 10 minutes I was connected and up and running, super duper.

    Apple Airport Express

I installed this unit as a wireless access point in my house (connected back to DSL router via ethernet). Works very well and easy to setup using Apple Airport Utility. Can't be faulted. Don't use in wireless extender mode, works best when connected via ethernet.

Staff at Apple Store explained in simple language what to do, so I bought one and brought it home and had it running in less than 10 minutes as an extension of my Time Capsule. So simple. Well done Apple.

    Replacing BT Infinity HomeHub 5

    • Written by from North Stifford

Bought this to replace a BT Infinity HomeHub 5, which has been unreliable from day one, with WiFi just disappearing all the time, sometimes the Internet connection going away, and generally I wasn't happy with it.

It's really very easy to replace the HomeHub 5. However, it doesn't work if you just have the OpenReach faceplate in your home; you need the OpenReach modem, which plenty of people sell on eBay for a few pound (I paid £7 including postage); you plug the OpenReach modem in the wall, the AirPort Express into the modem, set it up with Airport Utility, and you are up and running in five minutes.

So far it has been running much smoother than the HomeHub, with no problems at all. The HomeHub was fine once it got going, big downloads were fine, but it sometimes struggled with the simplest websites, and the Airport Express doesn't.

    Flawless!

    • Written by from Lytle Creek

I bought this together with an Airport Extreme, mostly as a WiFi extender to bring internet to a somewhat remote location on my property. After a simple setup of the Airport Extreme, this little device simply began to work, before I could even download it's utility. Doesn't get better than that. A vast improvement over my previously used and utterly unreliable netgear router system. I used the utility/app only to double check and set up a guest network. I am very pleased with this product.

    Simple. Fast. Sleek.

    • Written by from Munster

    Simple -
Takes only a minute to setup. Quite intuitive and streamlined. One click to play your phone wirelessly to speakers attached to the Airport.

    Fast -
Carries any speed I can dish out. Streams video on multiple devices at the same time.

    Sleek -
Minimalist design. Cords all in the back. Small LED indicator.

    Love this!

After having trouble with Netgear routers I purchased to AirPort Express. Setup was extremely easy. The speed of my WiFi improved dramatically over my Netgear model 4500. Setting up the guest network was quick and easy. I highly recommend this product.

when i first bought this i wasn't sure how to use it because i thought it extended the wireless network i was on, while i was at a hospital at the time their wifi wasn't the best so i thought this would simply make it better but i was wrong. i held onto it until i moved into a home and hooked up the new network and come to find out it saved me 50 bucks by essentially working as wireless router. and my signal is strong and it works better then i ever imagined thank you apple keep up the good products. home run with this...

    Incredible product !!!

    • Written by from London

Amazing Apple product, I was desperate to improve my Sky hub's (SR102) stability and speed. Setup with direct Ethernet connection to hub/router, created new wireless network on Airport Express, then disabled wireless on router. Devices attached include multiple phones, tablets etc as well as Airplay speaker and NAS drive. All working like a charm! Fibre optic connection restored to previously unseen speeds! The device provides amazing stability and range of the wireless signal, perfect for small flat. Still exploring its capabilities. Dual band wireless extremely useful as well if you have new devices that support 5GHz. Overall impressed.

    Wow! How easy was that!

    • Written by from Manchester

OK, I know that Apple products and the associated systems are easy to use, I've been a Mac user since the early 1980's, but ..
I needed a new WiFi base station since a very old one suddenly stopped working a day ago (I had a workaround so that my wife could still use the internet, but she couldn't print to our networked laserjet)
I connected the existing ethernet cable and the power supply and .... by the time I had wandered round to my office with my Mac Airport Utility had launched itself and was waiting, patiently, for me to set it up! Magic, or, is this what computing should always be like!

I'm loving my airport express. My current modem/router combo was constantly dropping the Wi-Fi signal. So I bought this airport and bridged it to my modem and haven't had a problem since.. Couldn't be more pleased. It has great range and even reaches upstairs and in my basement..

Best wifi router on the planet with an affordable price

    • Written by from San Francisco

This adorable Wifi router known as AirPort Express, is an exceptional performer that is appropriately priced for its size and function. Due to living in a condo that shares the network with a bunch of users using different wifi routers and networking devices, this little wifi router works extra hard to give you the accessibility you need to go on the internet and also to maintain connection through other devices located in the room, for example like this wireless switch that operates through the wifi network in order to turn on and off the light in the bedroom. Neat and easy set up, provided by Apple technical service representative who would assist you with steps to help you configure your wifi router through the network set up so you can get the best results. And the price is just a great reason why this router is a great start up for those who are new to the network setup. I got this wifi router through Apple after ridding the router provided by Xfinity(Comcast). I do recommend you trying this little AirPort Express to see for yourself how affordable it can be.

Bought one of these to extend the range of my old style AirPort Extreme. You could just get an intermittent signal from that at far end of our house hence purchasing this product after reading some of the Q&A's. Had it working in less than 10 min from opening the box. Plugged it in at the other end of the house and then the Airport Utility on my MacBook set it up as an extension of the existing wi-fi network pretty much automatically. No wires to it other than a power supply. Brilliant, simple set up. Highly recommend for extending the range of your Apple based network.
