    Worked for about a month

Speed was fine. I used it constantly because we have no wifi here, and after the first time I unplugged it, I got a DNS error. Some random rebooting and unplugging fixed it, but after unplugging it a second time the same thing happened and nothing I've tried has fixed it. Looking around the internet, other people with mid-2012 macbook airs seem to be having the same problem with it. Fix this apple!

This product Killed my MacBook Air

I plugged it in and it froze my MacBook Air, on reboot my SSD drive was dead!! The Mac is now a Brick! Previously the Firewire Adaptor also froze the OS but I managed to recover the SSD that time with Disk Utility. I have posed this review a couple of days ago, but its been removed so here it is again.

    JUST DOES NOT WORK...

Bought this to connect ethernet in my dorm on my Macbook with Retina Display. Since August, I have not been able to get any internet access. Why??? I don't get it! Never experienced such disappointment with an Apple product!

    Insane fast

Thunderbolt has been around for so long, and only now are some accessories available. I own the 2011 13" Air, and I have been waiting for this for a long time. Finally I can free up the slow USB port, and use the insane fast Thunderbolt IO for gig ethernet.

I downloaded the new update and applied it. Fast reboot and we were up and running.

Crazy fast. Copying files from my NAS to my laptop, i saw transfer speeds of up to 100MB/sec. I use this mainly for work events, where we move large files a lot.

The adapter does run a bit warm, but I guess that is normal. If you need to plug into wired gig networks, then you MUST have this.

    Internet gets choppy

Before buying this adapter I would just casually use Wi-Fi on my Mac Air and didn't really have any problems. I would play a few online games and my Ping would be higher than everyone else. I bought this adapter because it would be a direct internet connection to my computer and even though my Ping went down dramatically my internet connection while browsing the web got extremely choppy. Sometimes websites would not load or even take 3 minutes to load. When I disconnect the adapter, the internet would go back to normal and sites would load immediately. I don't know why but this adapter makes browsing the internet a hassle.

    Very Fast, Very easy

This is a case of a product that should have been released with Thunderbolt. Using USB 2 to Ethernet was never a good idea!

This product, however late is great! Update the driver, plug it in and go. Actually go very fast!

    Thanks Apple!

Apple - it just works... NOT

Picked one up today from my local Apple Store... nothing; doesn't work.

The adaptor shows up in System Information, but just sits there inert:

Hangs bootcamp Windows 7 on lid close

Thunderbolt Gigabit Ethernet Adaptor DOES work on Windows 7, but requires a reboot after you connect it. The problem I have every time I close/reopen the lid, bootcamp doesn't come out of sleep/hibernation and you have to reboot again.

    Works well. Minor flaw.

The cable works very well, although it very easily disconnects itself from the computer.
Any slight bump and the connection is lost... which isn't very pleasant when uploading files and getting the error: "file transfer failed".
There should be a little clip to keep it in place because it's very irritating to have it disconnect every few seconds.

    Waited for update 1.2.1....works great!

I empathise with all the 1.2.0 update users...but you know what they say, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Works like a dream!

    Works with Macbook Air 2011

This Gigabit Ethernet Adapter works with Macbook Air 2011, as long as you have Thunderbolt update 1.2 installed. This update, from what I've heard, caused problems to non-Thunderbolt Macs, but it was perfectly fine on my Macbook Air.

With this you will get much better throughput and lower latency than any wifi connection or usb ethernet adapters.

    Randomly disconnects

I bought this to be able to backup 1 TB of data a bit quicker. So far it's not working, as it always looses its connection before the backup completes, making the backup fail. Not very impressive. No status light either, so you can't tell by looking at it if it's working or not - you have to pull up Network Preference and see if it's green. Plugging it in and out works, sometimes, but this thing is a pain in the rear. My 6 year old macbook's built in ethernet is far more reliable.

Works great, what else is there to say?

Works as advertised, gives the MBA a Ethernet port for when you are at a hotel/friends house or whatever the occasion may be. Make sure you have the Thunderbolt 1.2.1 update installed or else this won't work.

Loses 1 star because it doesn't work in Windows (Boot Camp) yet.

    Defective Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter

I purchase the adapter some 6 weeks ago. Everything was working fine although I can't really see a difference between my USB Ethernet adapter. This night it just stopped working. I though it might be the router or my network card but it's actually only the thunderbolt adapter which went defective. 6 week life cycle is a bit short... Not very happy with that... I have a D-Link power over ethernet switch behind my router. Could that explain the issue ?

Wicked Fast, but needs to be on power!

I thought I had a faulty one, as on my MacBook Air it didn't work - it randomly came up as a thunderbolt device, but no ethernet, or not at all.

I then tried it on power, and "pop" - it just worked, as expected... and it is very, very fast. copying files onto the Air with it's SSD I was getting a nice solid 45Mb a second.

This is now part of my carry around kit for the laptop - excellent when you need a little more "oomph" than you can get with the Wireless.

    works great! for a while

I got the thunderbolt adapter for my Macbook air because the place I was going to be at for a few months didn't have wifi. For the first three months of my stay I had absolutely zero trouble with it, but this past month it will occassionally disconnect but then a few minutes later will reconnect. It's been really iffy recently, and I've been a little bit concerned about plugging it into my computer. Hopefully I won't need it for too much longer, I'm not sure if it is meant to last more than a few months!
