RE:Vision Effects
RE:Vision Effects develops a collection of advanced visual effects tools, including morphing, warping, retiming and smart motion blurring, that work directly within Shake. “Shake provides the capability to tightly integrate plug-ins in a way that meets the high demands of film production”, says Peter Litwinowicz of RE:Vision Effects. “For instance, RE:Vision Effects’ plug-ins are able to access Shake’s rotosplines without requiring users to learn a new interface”.
The Foundry
The Foundry is a leading software developer of plug-ins for the visual effects market. Its Furnace suite of plug-in tools uses motion estimation technology to help compositors correct common problems. “The combination of Furnace and Shake has helped Weta Digital, The Moving Picture Company and other leading post-production houses to spin their magic”, says Jonathan Barson, Managing Director of The Foundry. “If you are going to develop tools for the visual effects market, you have to develop for Shake”.
Silhouette
Silhouette FX is the creator of Silhouette Roto, a rotoscoping tool that allows you to quickly create sophisticated animated mattes using Rational B-spline, NURB or Bezier shapes, as well as variable edge softness and realistic motion blur. “Shake is the workhorse of the visual effects world: fleet of foot and built for heavy lifting”, says Perry Kivolowitz, Academy Award Winner for Scientific and Technical Achievement and Principle at Silhouette FX, LLC. “Shake’s open architecture has allowed Silhouette FX to integrate our lean and mean Silhouette Roto into Apple’s world-class effects platform”.

The Pixel Farm is a UK-based company providing innovative collaborative solutions for digital compositing and film special effects. “At The Pixel Farm, we are unusual as we work with Shake both providing data to it via PFTrack and working with its output with PFPlay”, says Richard Spohrer, Managing Director of The Pixel Farm. “Shake 4 is a major move forward in Mac-based film production and we are happy to be involved in making Shake and the Apple platform a real alternative in feature film production”.
