With Xsan, you have the flexibility to create a SAN that’s right for your organization and that maximizes the return on your storage investment. Not only does Xsan work with Xserve RAID and Apple Fibre Channel PCI cards, it’s also compatible with third-party products — such as Fibre Channel switches, content management software, backup and data protection devices, and video playout servers.

ADIC

ADIC's StorNext product line gives Apple Xsan users the ability to add non-Apple clients to the SAN. Add any combination of computers running Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Linux, IRIX, Solaris, or AIX as nodes on your storage area network. Xsan and the StorNext File System work together seamlessly.

Apple and ADIC have qualified Xsan for use with ADIC’s Scalar line of tape library backup devices. Using the StorNext Storage Manager you can back up your data to tape, while keeping data easily accessible to your SAN.

Atempo

Atempo’s Time Navigator for Mac OS X delivers robust data production for Xsan and heterogeneous network storage environments.

BakBone

Designed specifically for Apple’s Xserve, Xserve RAID, and Xsan product lines, BakBone’s NetVault for Mac OS X offers users a familiar native Mac user interface and easy integration with heterogeneous environments.

Brocade

Apple has qualified Xsan for use with several products in the Brocade Silkworm series line of Fibre Channel switches.

Cisco

Apple has qualified the Cisco MDS 9000 family of multilayer intelligent directors and fabric switches for use with Xsan.

Emulex

Emulex Model 355, 375, and 9200 SAN Storage Switches have been qualified for use with Xsan and are supported directly by AppleCare.

Exabyte

Exabyte offers robust backup devices that are ideally suited for Xsan environments. Select from Exabyte’s 221L FC, Magnum 6x60, or Magnum 8x143 tape libraries. Using Apple’s Xsan, you can back up your data to tape while keeping data easily accessible to your SAN.

Helios

HELIOS fully supports the Apple Xsan file system with all HELIOS server products and brings many reliability and performance benefits to Xsan. HELIOS File Server bundles enhance Xsan systems and bring fully integrated, cross-platform networking to Mac, Windows, and web users.

QLogic

Apple has qualified Xsan for use with the QLogic SANbox product line of switches, including the QLogic SANbox 2-64, SANbox 5200, SANbox 5202, and SANbox Express 1400.

Software Compatiblity

Once your SAN is up and running, you can use virtually any application built for Mac OS X and store its documents on the SAN. However, you won’t be able to use Classic apps with the SAN. See your vendor to obtain a Mac OS X version of such software.

QLogic and Xsan

TVN 24 needed an end-to-end solution to handle their daily data management requirement and provide simultaneous file sharing with Apple’s Xsan software. Now the largest Xsan installation in Europe is driven by QLogic switches.

Digital Strata, Apple, and Cisco

South Park turns to Apple

The makers of South Park have turned to Apple, Exabyte, and Atempo for new storage setup. To handle its growing storage needs, the show’s producers changed over to a faster tape library system and disk systems that is geared to become a full storage area network.

The choice of CNN bureau

The CNN bureau in Washington, DC, chose Building4Media software to install a desktop editing, transcoding, and production automation system. Building4Media has a history of reliability and a proven track record with Apple Xsan.
