Leading Publishers Choose Apple's ColorSync Technology
Corbis, Kinko's and PEOPLE Adopt ColorSync to Significantly Enhance Their Color Quality
SEYBOLD, BOSTON - March 4, 1999 - Apple Computer, Inc. announces that three of the world's largest publishing companies have selected Apple's ColorSync® technology to provide fast, consistent and accurate desktop color management. Corbis, the leading provider of photography and fine art on the Internet; Kinko's, known globally as the premier leader in duplication and business services; and PEOPLE, the most popular magazine in the world, are using ColorSync to deliver outstanding color consistency to their customers.
"ColorSync is the industry standard for providing consistent color and some of the world's most important publishing companies are basing their reputation for quality on it," said Clent Richardson, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "ColorSync delivers the consistent color that is important to consumers as they purchase products over the Internet, print important documents or enjoy their favorite magazine."
Corbis is embedding its CorbisRGB ColorSync profile into the digital distribution of its traditionally licensed images. With these profiles, Corbis can communicate the color of its images and provide its customers with the most accurate representation of its digital imagery. Corbis and Apple are also working in cooperation with other digital imaging leaders to develop a color management education program based on ColorSync workflows.
"Corbis strives to embrace new technologies which provide enhanced quality and service to our customers," said Steve Davis, president of Corbis. "With ColorSync, we are certain that the images received by our customers will maintain the high quality produced by our imaging technicians around the world."
Kinko's, which previously announced the purchase of over 2.4 million in Apple ColorSync Studio Displays, is developing an ambitious global color standardization program with ColorSync at its core, requiring marketing, training, technical and operational resources. This workflow involves 23,000 employees, approximately 9,000 computer stations, 2,000 scanners, and 3,000 color output devices. This ambitious program will provide Kinko's customers with superior color output that is consistent with what they see on their computer monitors.
"ColorSync is the foundation of our color management strategy," said Robert C. Meltzer, senior vice president and chief technology officer of Kinko's, Inc. "And Apple is our strategic ally in creating the best possible color, cross-platform, on a global scale."
PEOPLE has been widely recognized for its outstanding graphics and photography, which ColorSync significantly enhances. At 340 pages, PEOPLE's 25th anniversary issue, to hit newsstands on March 5, is the largest in the magazine's history. With a press run of several million, this issue is expected to be the widest reaching PEOPLE production ever. The art departments implemented ColorSync's digital color management system, using an RGB workflow, to ensure the highest-quality reproduction possible for over 600 images, many of them taken more than a quarter of a century ago.
ColorSync provides industry-standard tools for fast, consistent and accurate desktop color calibration, proofing and reproduction in all areas of the graphics, publishing and printing industries. Launched today, the latest version of the software, ColorSync 2.6, is being demonstrated at the Apple booth (Number 2105) throughout Seybold, and numerous publishing companies are exhibiting ColorSync products at the show.
