Have one bulb in the ceiling fan, one in a small lamp in the far corner of the room and one in an accent light behind my laptop while on its stand. Setup couldn't be easier... insert the bulbs and turn them all on, plug the signal unit into one of the open ethernet ports on your base station (cable included) and connect the AC adapter. Start the app up and press the button on the signal unit and you're all set. Bulbs at their highest setting are brighter than expected though still not as bright as conventional bulbs but that's to be expected. Really phenomenal option for people who work from home and want total control over the brightness of multiple lights to optimize their screen work. Price may seem steep but it is what it is. Though once you install it and use it you'll think it's worth every penny.

      Great Product!

I read an article and decided to purchase this product over a much more expensive home lighting system. One day later....Extremely Happy! Product was very easy I read an article and decided to purchase this product over a much more expensive home lighting system. One day later....Extremely Happy! Product was very easy and simple to set up...in Fact my six year old did all of the connections and i downloaded the app. The light output is as good or better than your normal light bulb and the color combination you see and get its just makes it that much better. I installed one on my sons room and tried the gradually dimming feature and it worked on the first try. If you are considering spending over 4K on a full house lighting system....make sure you spend the $199 starter kit and you will be Happy you did. I will be ordering more bulbs as they become available to change the entire house to this new system.

You Don't Know How Bad You Need This..Until You Have It

I've been reading about it over the last few months thinking it was cool, but never planned to buy it. Then I started reading how tough it is to get, and positive reviews started rolling in so I was lucky enough to pick up the last one at my Apple Store...Setting up was as easy as any Apple product, literally 2-3 minutes. The App is incredibly easy and intuitive, you name your bulbs as you assign them to wherever...You can tilt the phone sideways to activate the App to control each bulb individually or use it in portrait and choose a "Scene" like Beach lighting, Concentrate, Sunset, Pencils, Greece....tons of preset mood lighting, or you can choose an existing picture you love and create lighting based on it!! INCREDIBLE. MUST GET.

      Philips Hue System Unreliable

Potentially a great system let down but rubbish apps and software. Completely unreliable, hugely overpriced and very annoying when it stops working properly.

Otherwise they are very expensive white bulbs. Anytime you switch the lights off at the wall (kids, Grandparents etc etc) then when switched back on, they simply come on bright white. I can't believe there is no way to alter the default setting. Likewise, why can we not have a default scene? Good idea, poorly executed. Furthermore, the GU10 bulbs are so long the probably won't fit in your existing fittings.....

Great hardware but the software team needs to be fired.

I absolutely love the hardware and I'm up to 15 of these bulbs HOWEVER, the software is truly horrid. Some specifics: - It's unbelievable that this is still I absolutely love the hardware and I'm up to 15 of these bulbs HOWEVER, the software is truly horrid. Some specifics: - It's unbelievable that this is still 1.x software after years in the market, indicates Philips isn't serious about development. - Can't group bulbs into sets so if you have a single multi-bulb fixture (such as a chandelier) that you want to behave as a single lamp, you have to create a scene which is tedious and inefficient. - Can't always set scenes or recipes which include only Lux bulbs without a color bulb in the group - STILL NO DUSK TIMER OR AMBIENT LIGHT FUNCTION!!!! This is despite the discovery that there is a disabled ambient light sensor built into the hub (according to the developer forums on Philips own website) - New light recipes can't be created, only allows modification of the four stock recipes. - No automatic DST adjustments for timers - Glitchy HomeKit integration with Siri This is stuff that is - or should be - basic functionality and isn't even asking for anything revolutionary such as using the integration with Nest products occupancy sensors to sense user locations and allow lights to follow home occupants. Now THAT would really be something but until the software team gets a real wakeup call on UX then this will continue to be a one star product.
