    Amazing sound and looks BUT...

    • Written by from Nepean

As the title, it does sound amazing and it does look great. The finish is extremely good and again, looks incredible. The problem is as experienced by many owners, the speaker dies after only a couple months. No sound from any input. DEAD. I can understand electronics breaking but then you have to deal with their customer support. TERRIBLE. In this day and age they do not even have a proper twitter account. They are simply not responsive.
To top it off, if you are in Canada you are in for a treat. They have NO REPAIR FACILITY ANYWHERE in Canada so you have to ship it to Syracuse. Another hassle to the list. Get a Bose. Does not look as good but it just works and they do have decent after sales support.

Bluetooth wont work in 2 months

    • Written by from Mumbai

Great looking and great sound, but the bluetooth just suddenly stopped working, for no apparent reason, in just 2 months. Absolutely ridiculous. For a $500 speaker this is terrible. I wouldn't ever buy one again.

Love the look off this unit and the sound is great - when it works!
Bought in October '14, packed up two days ago after what I can only describe as light use.
Seems there's an inherent problem with these - I've read about so many failing on forums.
Buy for sound and looks but be prepared for a trip back to the store...c'mon Marshall, you're better than this!

Awesome looks and sound - poor bluetooth

    • Written by from St. John's

This speaker is pretty stellar I have to say, it looks and sounds awesome. However, do not plan to use a macbook pro for bluetooth. Perhaps this is a complaint of my macbook pro but it just cannot seem to handle it, versus my iPAD and iPHONE that do quite well with the speaker.

    Don't buy!!!!

    • Written by from San francisco

I never write reviews but I am so upset with spending $400 on a speaker that will last you about a year (or even less it seems for some), and having it go out on me for no reason. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON SHINY THINGS UNLESS THEY ARE BACKED WITH GOOD REVIEWS. Apple should stop carrying this brand unless they get their act together. LAME!

    Great while it lasted

    • Written by from Lancaster

I had the speaker for about a week and it sounded really nice, but then it stopped working properly and it couldn't handle the bass of any song (even at lower volumes). I had to return it.

    Spend your money elsewhere

    • Written by from san francisco

The speaker popped then started clicking 5 months out of warranty. The speaker probably can be fixed but the poor customer service from Marshall wishes my money was spent elsewhere.
    The UE Boom performs better.

3rd time will not be a charm

First Stanmore worked for about 6 months and we loved it. Then it died. Luckily under warranty. The second one we picked up worked for about 2 hrs. That's it for us. We're done with this poor quality

Sounded nice for the few months it worked

    • Written by from St Peters

The Bluetooth was never very good. It would only connect to an iPhone or iPad about ten percent of the time, and then if the device got more than about ten feet away, the connection cut in and out.

Eventually I gave up on Bluetooth and just used it with an audio cable.

Finally it just died. No lights, no sound.

It was under warranty, and I appreciated that the local Apple store was willing to allow me to return it.

We got a Bose SoundLink II to replace it. So far the Bose works great - pairs quickly, sounds good, and I can carry my iPhone or iPad all over the house and the connection holds.

Looks and Sounds Great...but it stops there

    • Written by from St Pauls

I had this for less than 4 months and really only use it when I have guests around. The sound is nice and looks great. Unfortunately the bluetooth is spotty at best. You can have the blue tooth sound source right next to it and it'll still cut out after a 15-20 minutes. I thought i could still live it with and connect a sound source via the input...good thought until this past weekend when that too would cut out the sound. It would eventually come back on but only to cut out again. Makes no sense. For $400 you'd think the quality would be better. It's really sad .

Looks good but bluetooth is terrible.

    • Written by from new york

I love the look of the speaker and the sound quality but the bluetooth connectivity is terrible. I've tried it with a few different macbooks and iphones and it failed with all of them. The bluetooth loses connectivity or it becomes choppy for no reason.
If you are looking for a wireless connection from your idevices to the speaker do not buy this marshall. I wish I could return it but i've gone past the 2 weeks return window.

In short if you want to use the bluetooth to connect to this speaker don't buy it.

    Worked for 7 months only

    • Written by from Pacifica

Power doesn't turn on and has a ticking sound when the switch is turned on. The sound quality was OK when it worked, but there was a delay in sound when using bluethooth which doesn't make it adequate for watching movies. I bought it only because of the design. I took the decicsion to not have it repaired and get a better speaker instead.

Dead product, used less than 10 hours.

    • Written by from Corryton

I bought my Marshall Stanmore at the Apple Store in Knoxville, Tennessee in November, 2013. It has been lightly used (less than 10 hours total) and kept in its box. After making room on my desk for the speaker to have a long term home, I plugged it in night before last to find that it won't work. It will not turn on, period, not even an LED. I emailed Marshall customer service along with a copy of my Apple Store receipt. Here is their reply:

"Thanks for contacting us. I am really sorry that you are experiencing issues with your Marshall Speaker. I am afraid that I cannot offer you warranty support for this speaker: the warranty expired in November 2014. The Authorized Service Centre in the US is United Radio and you can contact them directly to make repair arrangements for your speaker. You can get in touch with them through their website, www.unitedradio.com. Please note, all repair and shipping costs will be your responsibility. Thanks, please write again with any further questions or comments. Best regards, Sherri - Customer Support"

The only previous issue I had with the speaker was last summer when I plugged it in to listen for a while. The Bluetooth quit working for no apparent reason, and the speaker would not respond to any user input. Turning it off and on did nothing. I then turned it off and unplugged it for a few hours, after which it seemed to work normally.

I bought this product for three reasons: (1) it sounded good, (2) it looked good, and (3) it was not made in the Peoples Republic of China. I wish now I hadn't wasted my money - it is essentially junk at this point. This product is less reliable than British cars. I strongly urge readers to avoid Marshall products like the plague. It won't work, and they won't fix it.

    Works for few minutes

    • Written by from Bellevue

The device plays for 3-4 minutes only (via bluetooth) and then it just gets unresponsive. Nothing helps, only turn it off and wait for few minutes. The same with different devices connecting to it - iPhone, Mac. The device is completely unusable, will bring it back tomorrow. Hope this is just this model.

On the bright side, the quality of sound is really amazing! The inbuilt speakers of all my laptops and other portable electronic just sound plain and squeeky compared to those speakers! +1 star!

    Awesome Speaker

    • Written by from Cayce

I had so much trouble with the Bose SoundLink bluetooth connection that I quit using it. The sound wasn't all that impressive either. While I admit the Marshall was an impulse buy while getting my phone repaired, I haven't looked back. This speaker connects without any complications or aggravations. The bluetooth connection works great with my MacBook Air, iPad and iPod. The sound? Amazing! It is exactly what you would expect from a company that has filled our ears with loud, quality sound at concerts for years. Marshall should be proud of this personal-sized speaker. The history of Marshall is well worth scrolling though if you're an audiophile and it is on the company's website (name + amps).

    Great sound and excellent style

    • Written by from Ancaster

Have had this unit for just over 12 months now. Sound quality and volume are very impressive for this size of unit. Very good in all ranges including a solid, but not muddy bass. Construction seems very good for this price point. Have recommended this to friends and have demo'd it to many that went and bought one. Great style if the retro look is your thing.

    Prepare to be blown away

    • Written by from vancouver

I visited my local Apple store yesterday to make my final decision on a bluetooth speaker. I grabbed the Marshall and set it down on one of the demo tables. While I was talking to an employee re: pros and cons, several customers came up and started peppering me with questions about it. Two other employees made a point of dropping by and testifying their experience (and love) for the Stanmore.

Such is the excitement the product creates before turning it on. Ah, but when you unbox and crank it up for the first time.
The moment when it's just you and the sound - no hype, hyperbole or hipsterism.

A much like a fine automobile, I don't need to hear it roar to life to appreciate the Marshall's impressive looks.

    Don't purchase this item!

    • Written by from Boston

If you're thinking about purchasing this item, please don't! I suggest you but Bose instead. The Bluetooth function of this speaker is really bad, I connect my iPod and as long as I don't move the iPod the sound seems to be okay. However if I start moving my iPod, the connection gets broken and you get delayed sound and it's super super annoying. (that's probably why they are showing this item in apple stores with iPods that are put in mounts and can't be moved around). When it's connected to my mac, the speaker is just giving out a terribly delayed noise, it's not even music anymore, just a creaking annoying sound.

-if you're planning on just using the audio cable and not the Bluetooth, then you'd get a flawless sound.

    Great speaker until it died

    • Written by from Taos

I have had this speaker 3 months and 1 week. It completely died - nothing plays, not even the manual connection to our record player/stereo - completely died - just emits a low level static sound. For the record, for the past 3 months it was spectacular, really wonderful sound. I just recycled the box it came in too! I've contacted Marshall for the 1 year warranty, we'll see.
