    Loose Cable Cord

    • Written by from North York

I bought this because it was on sale at the apple store without checking any reviews on it. The cable that came with my drive is really loose and it keeps ejecting even at the slightest move. My sister has the same thing and her cable cord works fine but I had to go get another cable cord from Bestbuy to use it with my drive. The drive itself is pretty good but I would strongly suggest buying another product rather than buying this one and spending another $30 for a cable cord.

    Great Portable Drive

    • Written by from Guatemala

I picked up this drive whilst at one of the Apple Stores in NYC, fully on the recommendation of one of the salespersons there. I'd just gotten and MBP w/512GB flash drive, and needed portable space to accommodate my iTunes library, as well as my Photos library. This drive is just great! Really fast, easy to connect, and the finish of it is just great. It was a great purchase. Really happy with it, and highly recommend it.

    terrible, unreliable product

The 750 GB version does not allow me to backup photos or music; have not had this drive very long and it's already kaput.

Best external I've tried- lightweight, fast, not (too) expensive and has saved me not once, but twice in regards to transferring all my information to a wiped hard drive. All I can say is, I hope I don't have to replace it anytime soon...but when I do...I'll be buying the exact same one.

    Works but connection is loose

    • Written by from Mill Valley

I noticed in some earlier reviews comments about the USB connection to the drive not fitting tightly. But I have had good experience with G-Tech so I purchased based on specs and price. I use it for my Time Machine backups on my laptop. So far it has worked properly. But the loose connection is something of a distraction and inconsistent with the high quality I have associated with G-Tech. So far so good, but if I were buying a similar drive again I might pick something different.

    Own several, love them

I use these drives to store copies of my iTunes media - the 320 GB MacMini HD just isn't big enough. Whenever I run out of space again I get another one of these and plug it into my powered 10-Port USB Hub. I have seen complaints about the cords, I haven't experienced this problem, but then I once I've connected the drive, I don't remove them. They do their job well and are priced nicely.

I also stream my media from this Mac through wired Apple TVs in the house - no hiccups, no problems.

    Great value

    • Written by from Balitmore

I bought this drive to store my media files on. The machine it is currently hooked up to is older and doesn't have a USB 3.0 port so I can't speak much about the potential speed of file transfers, but I have been writing files directly to the drive without any issue. Other reviews have mentioned potential issues with the USB connector, but I do not disconnect and reconnect the drive on a regular basis, so I cannot foresee this being an issue. I am quite happy with this purchase and would recommend this drive to those looking for a great cost/space ratio.

    Excellent Little Drive

    • Written by from West Liberty

This slim, portable, external drive works great. I use it as a backup drive for my Macbook Pro and the inital backup of over 3gb took less than 40 minutes and has since worked wonderfully. I cannot recommend a better drive.

    Don't buy

    • Written by from Whitewater

I bought this hard drive for the price. Unfortunately, like other reviews mentioned, the USB cord that connects to the drive was loose to begin with. I continued to use it, but I found myself working on important projects with the drive plugged in, to find that because of the loose cord, the hard drive would eject itself from my computer and I would then lose all of my work. I would return this if I could find the receipt. It's not worth the reasonable price.

Not compatible with Airport Extreme/Time Machine

    • Written by from ATTLEBORO

Bought this on the recommendation of the Apple store to use with the Time Capsule. I have since found it does NOT work with the Airport Extreme and Time Machine. Hard drives connected to the Airport Extreme must have their own power source. The Apple tech suggested that a powered USB hub might offer enough power to the drive, but he couldn't be certain. *sigh*

    I hate this product

    • Written by from Toronto

2 months after buying this product, it stopped connecting to my laptop. When I tried to unplug and plug the wire to the usb port, it completely broke.
The price and storage is great. Quality, not so much.

    Efficient, simple, reliable!

    • Written by from London

This is a great hard drive currently at a decent comparative price (only $10 more than another similar drives). The drive itself, though only a 5400 rpm hard drive is still very fast and will no doubt satisfy the average user. I transferred about 70gb of content in less than 15 minutes the first time I used it - not Thunderbolt 2 speeds but still excellent! I now regularly use the drive to back up content via time machine. I have been told that G-Tech is a very reliable company, and that is certainly reflected in this product! Moreover, the design is great, sleek - I personally like the fact that it is available in black, others are not - and metal which is pleasantly cool to the touch (like my MacBook Pro). The only minor downsides are the fact that the usb cable is detachable - this is good if you want to use your own longer cable but in my instance I worry about losing it when travelling etc. - and, as a drive with moving components it certainly requires a lot of power: my usual power usage when plugged into mains is about 5 to 10 W with my rMBP, with the hard drive plugged in and backing up it is 20 to 30 W. These minor issues are not, however, unique to this product and I would strongly recommend it!

    Great buy!

    • Written by from MC DONALD

I thought my hard drive failed earlier this year, but instead it was only an internal issue that was easily fixed. That scared me enough to immediately go out and buy THIS external hard drive and back up my MacBook Pro. I've had it for a few months and it works like a champ! Once it arrived I set it up and backed up my MacBook Pro without any problems! Get price, get product!

    Does its job but.......

    • Written by from Cayucos

Bought 2 for ranch iMacs. Plugged in and it seems to do the job right away so 5 stars there. It was the complete opposite of Western Digital where you have an onslaught of vague instructions and then have a blast with all the glitches. And I mean ALL the glitches ALL the time. Even following their instructions doesn't change what is suppose to change. Anyway, the problem here is the LACK of instructions. Had to call customer service and I knew more about their website and available downloads/info for device than he did (nice fellow though). But there was a whole lot more to this conversation with him than what I am going to write. It was ludicrous. And that was just trying to find out how to password protect this in case of theft. It went downhill from there on any topic you can think of - I mean you had to be there to hear it! Horrible software interface and customer support (but again nice guy probably new). All that gets a negative one star. So I figured 3 stars was fair overall. Maybe I can stumble on the answers later myself.

I was worried about the earlier review about the loose connection; on my 2010 laptop it seemed to be a little loose, but I later learned that with a little more force you can push it in further and it'll be quite secure.

It is easier to plug it into a secure position in my 2014 laptop, it's a much better fit. I've used it for a few weeks without any problems, and 1TB for this price seems like a good deal.

    Wow, great product and deal

    • Written by from Richmond

I have a 500GB hard drive that I pretty much filled up with pictures and videos. I didn't want to invest in a new iMac yet, but I needed space. For a long time I hesitated to buy an external because they are expensive. I can't believe the price and capacity of this one. I put all my iPhoto library on it and now I freed up my mac and it runs better. So happy this product is available. I look forward to getting another one soon to do the same thing with my Macbook.

Amazing deal on this 1TB Drive. I have always gone with Seagate or GTech, but the price point is what attracted me to this drive. Its super reliable and easy to transport.

I love the fact that this drive is all metal casing. BUT, as stated in another review, the USB 3.0 that connects to the hard drive is NOT very secure. Please beware of this, but don't be discouraged by this flaw. Other than that, it seems to be a great drive. I used Blackmagic Disk Speed Test to see the READ and WRITE SPEEDS of this drive since it was no where to be found by the manufacture or Apple. The speed results that I got were: WRITE - 89.5mb/s and READ - 92.6mb/s. Hope this helps.
