    Keys are flat and slippery

I work on a computer almost 8 hours a day, and do extensive typing. This keyboard seems cool and satisfies me for a couple of days. However, the practicality is doubtful at best. The keys are flat, and hence, while doing fast typing my fingers often slip and press wrong keys.

Also, the white keys are easily stained. For that reason, I cannot return this product now, and I am using it as a 2-port USB hub. I am very satisfied with a much cheaper other-brand simple keyboard.

    Unusable for Older People

When you get older you tend to develop a hand tremor. The old keyboard anchored the fingers and did not interfere with typing. The new keyboard design causes my fingers to slide from key to adjacent key, requiring lengthy editing and enormous frustration. It is incredible to me that Apple's great design staff did not do its market research with the older population. Everyone who buys computers is not under 50. Apple should have made its old keyboard available to those who need it. I had to spend another $79.95 to buy a Logitech wireless keyboard that still featured raised keys.

I can't believe this is only keyboard offered

I'm a high volume/speed typist and this keyboard has cut my typing speed in half. Too much time correcting errors. And this style is the only thing on the Apple website and it is terrible. After market alternatives do not meet the criteria that high-volume typists want: Soft but quiet click and a decent travel distance. Very disappointing.

Does not work with Macbook Pro!

I ordered one of these so I could have a full sized keyboard layout for use with 3D modeling software but when I received it, installed the required software update and tryed to use it my computer had a kernel panic and needed to be rebooted before doing anything else. Once rebooted the keyboard either wouldn't register keystrokes or would just act as though I were holding down a key until I unplugged the USB cable. Plugging the keyboard back in would then cause another kernel panic and reboot.

Apple Support walked me through clearing the battery cache and several other vague attempts before giving up and trying to ship me a new one. They claimed it was a hardware conflict and a new one would solve the problem. The problem with that is they don't know the Product Number as their internal numbering system doesn't match any numbers on the keyboard or packaging. Finally they gave up on a normal exchange and just ordered me a new one from the Apple Store.

I received the replacement the very next day and have the SAME EXACT ISSUES. There is apparently no way to get this keyboard to work with my year old Macbook Pro.

    Very Nice

Much better feel than the old fullsize. However, the old fullsize was wireless/BT why not this one? Would have been great!

The best keyboard ever works with Windows XP!

I know that it is just a keyboard, but I love it!

It makes typing very easy! It gives you an extra USB port, which is brilliant, and it looks so good.

I use it with my MB Pro, and it works very well on my Boot Camp Windows XP too! Way to go Apple!

    Help...I've fallen and I can't get up!

I have fallen in love with this keyboard!
60 year old typist with arthritic fingers, finds spatial movement is lessened and accuracy is resplendently restored. Along with many other older, foolish folks out there, I spend many mealtimes sitting over the keyboard. My frustration level has also lessened as my tea and toast crumbs are no longer interacting with my keyboard. Bonus! This keyboard is a pleasure to drive. Now, if I can just find the brakes...maybe I can get up myself.

sleek design but sacrifices some ergonomics

I love the way it looks and feels. key length is short making your typing noticeably quicker. I think my biggest complaint is that it is nice and sleek but it sits way to low. even lower than a standard laptop keyboard. It tends to hide under my 6"x11" wacom tablet which is already thin and low profile itself. I have to prop up the back of it on the base of my LCD. I think apple should package a simple base for it to sit about an inch higher in the back. Also I hate that apple moved around all the F-- keys. Should have left the musical controls where they were and same with dashboard.

    Don't buy this!

I was a 100% Mac addict until this product hit me. It's beautiful, hip and that was what I fell for until I tried using it. Typing on it feels like running a marathon on tarmac barefoot.

I'm not a keyboard pounder, I would rate myself a light to average finger-weight typist but still l I had to stop using it after less than 10 minutes. That is not a good thing. There's very little cushioning in the keys and even less depth for rebound.

The other problem I found was that it's additional USB ports, though very helpful, did not have enough design height to allow my very average USB memory stick to dock! Not good again.

After three days of trying to live with this beautiful thing, I had to go out and buy another keyboard. Try the Kensington Slimtype keyboard. It's reasonably priced and works well.

This keyboard gets no star from me if this review program allows me to choose this option but I can't post this review if I don't choose a star.

So close to the perfect keyboard

I needed a keyboard for my MacBook and even though I really wanted a bluetooth keyboard, like the one that came with my iMac, I also really needed a numeric keypad do do my work. Apparently I can't have both. I feel like I had to settle when I bought this keyboard. I've never felt that way with any other apple product.

Apple, what is stoping you from making a wireless keyboard WITH a numeric keypad?

Also, the USB extension cable that is provided with this keyboard has a serious design flaw. The female end of the cable has a "nub" to help hold the male end of a USB device. Unfortunately this "nub" is a little too large and actually makes it difficult to insert a male USB connector, and even harder to remove it. In fact I actually broke a USB stick trying to pull it out! I had to wedge a paper clip into the female end of the extension cord to pry the broken USB stick out!

The keyboard is nice (despite the antiquated cord) but that USB extension cable went straight into the garbage.

    Great product

I type for long periods, and I've had to change to this keyboard since my wrists and hands started hurting from using my mac pro's keyboard, and I'm glad I changed. Less pressure is needed to hit the keys, compared to the mp keyboard, and I've noticed an increase in typing speed. Though I'm still getting used to this keyboard, I think I might need a keyboard pad for my wrists since the keyboard is almost flat against my desk. Delete keys work continuously for me. My only problem is that the USB port (though nicely hidden underneath) gets difficult to disconnect my peripherals from it.

    Great but its wired!

It looks great, it types great, BUT WHY is it not wireless? The Apple Keyboard Pro is awesome and because it is wireless. (I am going back to it.) Apple please get back to a full size wireless keyboard.

    Works with Windows

I know this sounds kinda stupid. But I do not own a Mac. Just purchased the wired keyboard today and it works perfectly with PC as it should with a mac. Very impressed with the response time and hardware. easy to use and looks beautiful.

Perfect for injured Soldiers who type

Apple, keep on designing wonderful products!
I after injuring my wrist in Iraq, I had a real hard typing. I bought everything in the market to support or help me with typing on my PC. None worked. My brother, nowing my disability informed me that Apple had a new keyboard and mighty mouse. I didnt think much of it until i got both of them in the mail from him. I reluctanly tired both. After an hour of typing and clicking i felt no pain as i would normally had felt using Ergonomic keyboards and mouse. Now i own 3 with mighty mouse(1 for work,1 for my PC and 1 for my laptop). I also gave 3 away to other fellow Soldiers who have wrist-hand problems. People at work have also changed theirs. Thanks for the great design for us disabled folks.

    PC Windows Owner Very Happy

I love this keyboard. As a PC owner I was very happy to have it just plug in and be completely mapped correctly on both Windows 7 and Windows Vista with no tweaking needed.
First, the stainless steel is great compared to the usual plastic of other makes. And the keys, they're so smooth. The type action is beautiful as well. I just can't say enough good things about this. My typing experience has been greatly improved. Apple makes good hardware. I'd own a Mac if there was software available for my particular business which there is not.
BTW the cable on this is just shy of 3ft but the extension cable that comes with it is just shy of 3ft as well. It's just perfect to go around the back of my desk and back to the back of the tower. Perfect.

This is the best keyboard I have used!

I thought Apple had gone crazy when they introduced this keyboard. "A chiclet keyboard in this day and age!" I exclaimed. I fully expected to hate it.

However, I can type faster on this keyboard than on any other, and it has an excellent feel. It is also small and looks great. If only this one came in wireless...

I have been working with computers for over 27 years and this is, without a doubt, the best keyboard I've ever used.

    well worth it

Bought this about 3 weeks ago. I'm a PhD student so I type a LOT. Had a hard time deciding if I could compromise on the wireless and keep the num pad. In the end since the keyboard never leaves the desk I don't miss it. Turns out a wireless mouse to me is key, but a wired keyboard is fine. Using the laptop style keys has been fantastic. My typing is now faster and much quieter. The full size keyboard is a must for me...page up, page down, fwd & back delete, and nbr entry is necessary for me. Great keyboard, great quality, and USB ports to boot. Work the $. Giving it 4 stars only because I think Apple could have a wireless version of this but for some reason chooses not to. That would be a 5-star keyboard, to me.

    Love it ... except....

I love this keyboard for the most part. I too type a lot and have NOT had any problems with that. Matter of fact, typing seems to move along faster. It's also so quiet.

My complaints ... the location of the USB ports. And the extension USB they give you must be for USB2(?) My card reader doesn't fit; there's an extra "nib" in the opening.

Also, WHY did Apple discontinue their old keyboard? I only have OS 10.3 and had no other Apple option but this keyboard. (Or wireless, I think. But that would lead to more expense.) Since I don't have 10.4 (another expense!) the "F" keys don't work properly (except for the eject key.) The ones I miss most are the volume keys.

I did have a problem w/the Caps Lock and "A" keys not responding unless I whacked them HARD; but I returned it to my Apple store for an exchange with no problems.

Don't get me wrong; I do like the keyboard. Typing IS smoother/faster/quieter; "crud" doesn't build up and it looks so sleek. I'm just hoping Apple reads these reviews and takes our voices into account when they improve the original.

    Please don't discontinue!

I love this keyboard! I don't know why they didn't include the 10-key on the wireless model, probably just to keep its footprint very small. I don't mind that it is a wired keyboard because I never move it very far away from the computer anyway. I hope I have a chance to buy 10 more of these if they ever decide to discontinue them. It is so popular, in fact, that I know PC customers that use them! (I guess they are just trying to make it look like they are Apple customers!) This keyboard is a perfect height, the key spacing is just right and the tactile feel of the keys took less than a day of use before it felt like I had never used anything else. The engineering on this keyboard is spot on.
