    lazy space bar

Once earwigs took over my original iMac wireless keyboard I opted for a wired keyboard. I read all reviews and noted that the prime complaint was a non-responsive space bar. Now that I have been using the keyboard for about two weeks--I agree. The space bar is sluggish and requires a powerful tap. Purchasers be aware. You will need to retrain your entry touch.

I love it, but one word of "warning"

I love this keyboard.. and makes changing from desktop to laptop keyboards easier (I always have to adapt a bit typing on one vs. the other.)

I did find one problem. I am on system 10.4.11 running on an Intel based mini. I had to work some disk repair magic and the computer would not recognize the new keyboard for booting off the CD drive - I had to use the old keyboard to do this command. Apparently, there is a firmware update, but only works with 10.5 (or so the Apple support page said at the time.) So might be good to hang onto the old keyboard for a bit if this is your situation.

    I love to type now!

I have this keyboard at work and I hate going home to my old Mac keyboard. The old one is terribly cumbersome and awkward compared to the near-effortless ease with which my fingers are allowed to glide around on this new one. Well done!

i have carpal tunnel AND love this keyboard

i use this keyboard all day every day at work and LOVE it... before I had a bulky old style keyboard and the amount of force that it required to push in the buttons was KILLING my hands. I requested a new aluminum keyboard and have been very, very happy with my decision ever since... the amount of pressure that you need to apply with your hands is so minimal, it is wonderful for my hand and wrist pain. If this keyboard is hurting your hands, you are typing incorrectly.... you need to keep your wrists straight and hands arched when you are typing.... if you don't keep your wrists straight as you type and instead let them rest on the tabletop, well that is how you end up with carpal tunnel after 18 years of being a very fast typist.
Since I got this new keyboard pain and discomfort to my hands and wrists has decreased IMMENSELY, which is really great since I frequently forget to wear my wrist braces ;p

    best keyboard ever

I was worried about getting this as an external keyboard for my powerbook as I'm on 10.3.9 and the box says it requires 10.4.10 but I took a gamble. Fortunately, all the typing keys works as normal as you'd expect, I can use expose on F9, 10 and 11 as I could with my previous apple pro keyboard, brightness on F14 & 15, the only downside is losing the volume keys. However, my laptop's not far away and I have a control on my speakers too. But aside from the technicalities it is absolutely fantastic to type with. Really fast, no effort, and I'm hardly missing any keys even at speed. I'm so glad I didn't wait till I get Tiger or Leopard. Brilliant!

    Poor for male speedy typists

If you've got typical male fingers -- wider than a lady's or child's -- and you are used to typing very fast (> 50wpm), you'll find this keyboard terribly unresponsive. You really have to pound on it to get the keys to register -- there is no tactile feedback.

Also, the angle shown in the photo is very misleading. The keyboard lies almost completely flat. The rear has less than 1/2 inch rise. If you are used to even a slightly elevated keyboard, you'll have trouble getting used to this one.

In short, the keyboard is too dainty, keys are closer together than the previous iMac keyboards, typing angle is uncomfortably flat, and the tactile response yields considerable uncertainty as to what you have typed.

Fortunately, I still have my old iMacs, so I simply use an older, less elegant, but much more functional and superior keyboard with my new iMac.

why r there no bad reviews?????????

I am a long time apple fan but the one sided reviews are disappointing. This site use to be a lot more honest, but now it seems like it is just marketing and as long as you say good things your reviews will be left up for people to read, but if its negative its gone!
I have put a couple honest reviews and they were deleted from the discussion or reviews...interesting.
I bought the new keyboard and I am disappointed. It looks great and it was easy to download the software from the apple website, but it seems like the keyboard has contact issues with the buttons b/c my caps lock key has to be pressed a few times before it works and I notice when I type an email and review it there are a lot more typos from the keyboard b/c it is not registering all the keys I am pressing. I dont know if it is a software issue that just needs an update or not but I also have to custom set one of the unused F keys to set it to reveal the desktop since that is not one of the presets with the new software. The problem is whenever I go to preferences/keyboard and set it up with an unused F key it works fine, but as soon as I turn my computer off the next time I turn it back on the key no longer works and it is back to the default key (F11) which I cant use b/c the f11 key is used now to lower the volume. So on a daily basis I have to go into preferences and reset that key every time I turn the computer on. If they cant fix this I have to take it back and get a keyboard w/o any glitches that still need to be worked out.

    Typical Apple

This product is typical of apple! Perfect! The design of this keyboard is the most elegant i've ever seen. The sheer ergonomics of the keyboard increased my typing speed by 20 wpm. I've been a general windows keyboard user all of my life and since I got this keyboard I would never consider going back! Even when connected to a pc it still worked. And well put it this way, this keyboard will soon be followed with a new Mac! Well done apple.

This Keyboard is smooth, and sleek. The keys are easy to push down with little travel. This increased my keyboarding speed. Not to mention; it's one of the best looking Keyboards with a Numeric Keypad. The USB inputs on each side of the Keyboard are tucked under nice and neat. Apple design and innovation is why this Keyboard is under my fingers right now.

I am disappointed with this keyboard

I have to say that I purchased this keyboard in October 2007 and suddenly last week, the "U" key stopped working.
After calling Apple's assistance in Portugal, where I am, running some tests they've assigned me to confirm the malfunction and after taking it to an Apple's registered technician I had the response that it was not the key it is the keyboard!
As my warranty expired 4 months ago they told me that I have to buy a new one!

It is the first time in my years with computers and of being very fond of Apple's products, that I see a keyboard which is no longer useful after 2 years because one letter is not working.
As I am very careful with my iMac and gadgets , it is obvious for me that this hardware is not made to last at least for a while, when it is something meant to be used on a daily basis, and it makes me wonder if Apple did not put Design and beauty ahead of the quality and resistance of this product .

Nice keyboard but be careful when cleaning

After few months I've decided to clean up slightly. Tried be gently as is possible, turned up keyboard and cleaned with cloth and small dose of water. After that keyboard keyboard was completely dead! I haven't any problems with old white keyboard which was a lot more solid than this one. I must admit, recent keyboards are fragile and very sensitive on water.

best keyboard i have ever used

This is a 5***** product and it works on WINDOWS!!.For £29 you cant ask for more. it has a very nice feel to the keys. they are easy to press and are not to close together making misstypes a thing of the past. my typing speed has increased when using this keyboard because it is so easy to navigate around it. A great product and well worth the money, ultra slim and they mean it. i would recoomend it if you lack desk space. although i think the mouse apple make is a bit..... clunkey. i would reccomend this keyboard to anyone.

Great Keyboard, but USB memory sticks don't fit

Just bought one of these keyboards from PC World for £29. Really nice to use like a MacBook keyboard, but if you use a USB memory stick in the USB port, found most of mine don't fit, because the clearance is too small between the port and the underside of the keyboard. This is a shame, because with the previous generation of keyboard, it just plugged straight into the port on the rear, rather than blindly trying to use the USB ports on the back of the iMac to plug in a memory stick.

Tried to use the extension cable as a flying lead, but this only works with the USB port for the keyboard, because there is a "V" shape in the middle of the connector. So all rather annoying.

Makes my G5 feel like a brand new machine

This really is an ultimate keyboard - I am not sure if a full time typist would like it as it is very flat and no form to the keys.

But for a four fingered typist it is superb!!!

    Best Bits:
    1. Such a great design - but there again it is from Apple :o)
    2. I can see the caps lock light without having to look down the hole in the key.
    3. The keys are nice and big and quiet.
    4. The control buttons for itunes means that I no longer have to be in itunes to pause or go back and forward.

I am so impressed that I am now going to order the wireless version to go with my existing mini for the lounge TV.

actually one NEGATIVE - Apple no longer on apple key

    Apple Keyboard With Numeric Keyboard

Another excellent product from Apple, beautifully made and a joy to work on. The keys do take a little getting used to, it is rather like going from a typrewriter to a computer keyboard for the first time.
Once you have used the keyboard for a couple of days it will seem that you have been using this keyboard for years. The keys are crisp and direct, they are a touch typist's dream. the layout is good, apart from the position of the fn key which is in an unusual place. I chose the wired version for the numeric keyboard which I use a lot.

I would highly recommend this product particularly for the price.

    Well done Apple

I am so glad I bought it, and would happily recommend it.

    Wot, no # key?!

Someone somewhere wasn't thinking when they designed the UK version. Spent ages thinking I had gone crazy staring at the keyboard, searching in vain. There is a work round but you would think they would include # key which is so important to programmers before they started filling the spaces with random symbols such as §!

I found this particular keyboard to be great. The slimness of the keys allows for easy movement across the board and the addition of the numberpad allows for easy mathematical calculations. My only complaint is that there isn't a wireless keyboard with a numberpad.

    Great keyboard!

I'm a programmer and I've been searching for a while for a good and easy to use keyboard. At first the Apple keyboard seemed too flat and uncomfortable but when I tried it - it's nothing like it! The large crispy keys speed up typing, the distance between the keys prevents typos and the bigger and easily reachable modifier keys make using key shortcuts easier than ever! Except that the elegant grid-like rectangular design makes the keyboard intuitive and easy to use without even looking at it. Another great product by Apple! Thank you!
