I ordered a Magic Mouse even though I current have a couple of PCs. I will be purchasing a MAC shortly, but I was too curious to wait to see this mouse. True enough, the mouse will only perform basic point and click functions on the PC, but in addition to this, the scroll function seems to work so that all I need to do to scroll down a web page is to move my finger up & down the mouse. Love this. Now I can hardly wait until I get my MAC (for obvious reasons) & to use this mouse in its entirety.
    Love Apple products.

    Best Mouse!

    • Written by from San Antonio

This has been the best mouse I’ve used.
Actually, I should say ‘the best mice’ as I have two of these working for me. I have had no problems with either.
The first I purchased when it was introduced in 2009 and the second one year later so I could have one for work and one for home.
I’ve used them to give presentations in large rooms with nary a connection issue.
After five years--even a few drops on a hard floor--the mice still are working. I can’t say that about the other mice I’ve used!

Well designed and easy to use

I had considered buying one for a while but was hesitant since I saw reviews that said it was uncomfortable to use. I bought one anyway and I am glad I did since I feel those reviews are not accurate. The mouse is designed so it moves easily so you don't have to grip it hard to move it. If you gripped it really hard I could see how the edges would hurt after a while, but it is so light you don't need to and in fact I feel I actually barely touch it when using. I think it is actually very comfortable to use since it doesn't take much effort to move, click or scroll so your hand is more relaxed. I find it very comfortable, easy to use, and beautiful while aiding in my productivity at the same time. Personally I feel it is worth the money and I am very happy with mine.

    Love this Mouse

I've used this mouse on my Mac Mini for over 3 years and never had any connection issues. Battery has never been an issue since I've always used rechargeables for my mice. Love it so much I just bought another one for my MacBook Air 11" to replace a Logitech which I also dearly love.

The mouse is a bit different to get used to in form factor but I find if I use a mouse pad with a wrist support I don't feel any awkwardness or discomfort.

Speed of the mouse is slow at first install but fully adjustable in system settings.

To take advantage of all the gestures in a Mac, I would highly recommend this mouse!

I have two Magic Mice which I use with a G4 and G5 computer. I purchased the first one and liked it so much that I got a second one for the laptop. They take a few weeks to get used to but after a while a normal mouse feels wrong. I have dropped one several times from a couple of feet and it still works fine. One problem is I am so comfortable with the mouse that I will try to use it on my clothes instead of a regular surface. Sometimes the fabric is not correctly seen by the mouse and the pointer will jump around. The other problem is the sensor can pick up dust and again cause the jumping. If his happens, just take a Q tip and brush it off and you will be back in business. If you turn the mouse off when you are not using it, the batteries will last a long time. On the other hand if you never turn the mouse off, consider rechargeable as the batteries will only last a month or two. I use a mix of batteries with rechargeable in the tower which runs 24 hours a day and regular batteries in the laptop which may only be used a few hours a day. After about a year and a half I am only on the second set of batteries in the laptop. As with any battery device, make sure the contacts in the mouse and on the battery are clean as a little dust will keep the mouse from working.
Not everybody will be happy with this mouse but most will come to love it.

I love it, although I did not at first

New to Mac (Sept 2013) A friend lent me his Magic Mouse and I hated it. If felt heavy and i worried about the battery life. However I decided to give it a shot; mostly because of esthetics since the Logitech mouse had the dongle eating up a USB.

I was surprised at the ease of "configuration". It just worked and even named it my name's Magic Mouse. The battery life is exceptional. I have had it for almost 1.5 Months and the battery is still at 75%. I shut the mouse off at the end of the day or when going from customer to customer.

I love it now and it keeps with the minimalist tradition of Apple. The only option I saw for Bluetooth mice, had a Micro$oft Logo on it, and you would not catch me dead with that blasphemy on my Mac.

This mouse is amazing. I've had it since March of the year after it came out and it has never gave me an issue. It can be a bit of a battery eater, but that issue is easily solved with rechargeable batteries. It fits comfortably in my hand, and I don't know why anyone would say it doesn't. Sure, it's different and you don't use it with the same position, you don't lay your entire hand on it, but it's still very usable. It doesn't use a red laser like most mouses so it never blinds your eyes, and after installing MagicPrefs I can bind countless gestures to it and make scrolling work better. I feel like OSX should come with MagicPrefs as it is a MUST for a magic mouse, but this is a great mouse and responds lightning fast and doesn't have a wire that annoys you and takes away the functionality of the mouse. It even saves a USB port by working with the built-in bluetooth. It does need a decent mousepad to glide around on, as the rubber things on the bottom do not work well at all on a plain desk.

    The perfect mouse

    • Written by from Prescott

I’ve had my magic mouse for 2 years now. It still runs great. I accidentally dropped it on a slate floor. It made a horrible crash and the batteries popped out. I thought for sure my mouse was done for. But I popped the batteries back in, and it works just fine. Not even a crack to the frame. I was very surprised because it looks so delicate.

Possibly some who are frustrated haven't configured it properly for their usage. If you don't like the zoom, turn off the zoom. If you don't like page swipe, turn off the page swipe. You don't have to use those features. Personally, I love the page swipe, but I don't like the zoom. So I turned off the zoom.

I use my mouse constantly. I'm on the computer about 12 hours a day. My batteries last 4-6 weeks. I use rechargeable batteries. I've been alternating the same set of 4 batteries since I bought the mouse. That has probably saved me about $25.

As far as range, I just tested mine from 10 feet away. I don’t know why anyone would need to use a mouse from 10 feet away, but it works. It probably goes even farther, but that’s as far as I could get and still see the screen.

If you are having issues with it jumping around a bit, you probably just need to clean the optical eye. Use a dry, soft, lint-free wipe like the kind for eyeglasses. That fixes the issue every time for me. Also (as with any optical mouse) use a solid color mouse pad, no pictures.

I would definitely buy another if this one died. I may even buy a backup in case the design changes. I’m very attached to this model.

Scrolling is so seamless. Wireless works awesome with Macs. No problems at all. Scrape the gunk off the feet periodically against the edge of a desk and it glides all anew.

Never had trouble with the shape. I find that the shape affords itself to a variety of holding postures, so my hand kind of moves around all the time.

I bought my magic mouse a month or so after it was released. I had always hated Mac mice. This mouse has been fantastic. I use it with my '09 MacBook Pro, and am currently using Mavericks. The mouse has never stuttered, it has nice range (20 feet or so), needs batteries only once every couple months. I'm about to purchase one for a co-worker. Hopefully the quality is still the same!

    I love this mouse!

I read the reviews here and on the Apple website before I bought this mouse, and they were so mixed. Ultimately, I decided to purchase it anyway and I'm glad I did. This has easily been the best mouse I've ever used. I'm using Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion). I bought the mouse in mid-September, so I've been using it for about a month. I also want to state that since I read the reviews and knew about some of the problems, I immediately downloaded MagicPrefs before I even started using the mouse.

First of all, form factor. I don't really care how my mouse looks - I want it to work. However, I DO care about portability, and this mouse is super portable. I had a little Vera Bradley zip ID case (the Clip Zip ID) that I wasn't using, and I can slip the mouse in there easily and throw it in my bag. With Bluetooth there are no dongles to keep track of in the computer or outside, and I have found that the drain on my MacBook Pro isn't as bad as I thought it would be keeping the Bluetooth on all day. I still get about 5 or 6 hours out of my MacBook Pro (I can probably stretch it to 7 hours without the Bluetooth on all day).

As for comfort - holding this mouse does take some getting used to if you are used to resting your palm against a bigger/fatter mouse, but once I got used to it I have found that this mouse is not terribly uncomfortable and actually improves the position of my wrist greatly. I will say that I get fatigue with this mouse faster than with others - my fingers go stiff faster. However, that's after HOURS a day of usage.

I have had zero Bluetooth connectivity problems. This mouse has very smooth tracking. It comes on one of the lowest speed settings by default, so you can always turn up the speed, but personally the mid-level speed is fine for me.

The most magical thing about this mouse is the scrolling. The momentum scrolling is just great - it allows precise control of scroll down a page. I can flick and send my page spinning; I can scroll to an exact place. It's very smooth and honestly, this by itself makes the mouse worth it to me.

In the past I have found that Apple mice have very unsatisfying clicks since the entire thing depresses, but that's not the case with this mouse - it gives a satisfying click. I have my (regular) preferences set to secondary click, so I can use right click. I have had very few problems with the mouse recognizing the difference between a right click and a left click, and it's usually because I've used my right finger a little too far to the left.

I think that for most people the regular preferences out of the box are sufficient. With the regular preferences, you can enable secondary click (for a right click) and use the regular scrolling with one finger. If you double tap with your left finger, you can use "smart zoom," which will either zoom in farther or zoom out. I have found that to be jumpy and not all that smart, so I don't use it much. Swiping left or right with one finger allows you to swipe through pages within apps (or for example, I can swipe my Firefox tabs across the top of my window if I have too many tabs open to see in one window), and swiping left or right with two fingers allows you to swipe between apps. Double-tapping with two fingers brings up Mission Control. This works much more reliably than the smart zoom double-tap, for some reason. This, alone, is more than a traditional mouse would give you, so I think it's a bit absurd to say that the Magic Mouse is basically unusable out of the box.

So basically, I think any OS X user who wants smooth tracking and a variety of options in their mouse would do well to take a look at this one!

I like this mouse from the very first moment, I used it.

It gives a good feeling and is a fine extension to the built in track-panel of my MacBook Pro.

    Recommendation for this wonderful mouse.
