Everything I Expect in a Keyboard

    • Written by from Singapore

I use the keyboard with both my MacBook Pro and iPad Air. I find typing with it much better and more ergonomic than using the built-in keyboard/keypad. I was surprised to find that the feel of the keyboard is quite good - this is something I am extremely fussy about and I normally prefer a mechanical keyboard with more key travel. The keboard looks nice in front of my MacBook Pro and next to the Apple trackpad. It is very compact but occasionally I wish it had a numeric keyboard.

The Bluetooth connectivity is great - the keyboard connects quickly when I turn on my Mac or iPad or bring one of the devices into my home office (where I keep the keyboard) from another room. Battery life is decent and the battery charge meter on the Mac keeps you from running out of power unexpectedly. I have had Bluetooth connection and battery life problems with other keyboards.

The only small problem I have had is switching between Mac and iPad when the device it was paired to is still in range, but that's not the fault of the keyboard.

Overall I am completely satisfied with the keyboard.

Awesome product! Great reliability; smooth & accurate keystrokes!

Wonderful design for the Macbook lover in mind. I love my flat Macbook Pro keyboard design, and this is just as easy to use on a desk setting without having to have your device on your lap or right up close to you. Super easy to use and very accurate. Bluetooth connects easily, eliminating the need of hogging a USB port! Easy power on/off button & battery compartment as well, hidden in the design and out of the way, which is nice. Love the super smooth operation of the keys! So glad I got this along with the magic mouse... wish I would have done it sooner! I'm in love with the reliability of the apple products in my home!!

    Batteries corrode inside compartment.

    • Written by from Wellington

The keyboard is very slick, but honestly, is garbage. If batteries corrode, you can't get them out no matter what, rendering it not even heavy enough to be a proper paperweight.

What have you done to the keyboard in the latest update, it's just awful. How can I change it back? The letters are faint and horrible

    Absolute waste of money!!!

    • Written by from New Orleans

Do not buy this if you live in a place where the temperature gets above 85 degrees Fahrenheit. The battery compartment is too narrow, and batteries tend to swell and/or leak when exposed to heat. This leads to corrosion, and when this happens, you will be unable to open your keyboard... thus rendering it useless!

I am tell, so I have bigger hands than other people. I'm sure Ill get used to it, just not exactly what I was expecting

    Worst keyboard ever made

    • Written by from Oakland

The patented Apple reality distortion field is strong here, no other vendor would get away with selling this. This is hands down the least ergo friendly keyboard I've ever seen, even amongst traditional keyboard layouts. They seem to have managed to make all the downsides of a membrane keyboard more noticeable, and as such is very awkward to type on. Over all the build quality feels real flimsy.

At this price point you are approaching the cost of a discount mechanical keyboards or high end membrane keyboards, and this keyboard is about the same quality as the $10 discount ones you find at grocery stores.

    Great but..

Everything about this keyboard is great, but, it's time to stop playing games Apple.
It's time to step your game up with a SPACE GRAY, ILLUMINATED keyboard. Yes I know it would require more energy to operate. PUT A RECHARGEABLE BATTERY IN IT.

    Not bad, but not competitive

    • Written by from Fort Collins

This is such an old design now compared to when it first came out. of course it still looks the business.

I used one of these for about 3 years before changing to something else. I really liked it for the most part, but then during the last 6 months of use I found it turning itself on randomly. I'd be cycling down the street with the thing in my backpack and all of a sudden it would connect to my iPhone and start playing a podcast or something.

The fact that it's so difficult to know whether the darn thing is On or OFF (no button for that) became infuriating. Then Logitech came out with one that had a 3-way switch to change connection between devices, and this ended up being a killer feature for me. I'm no on my second Logitech keyboard with that feature.

I do miss the sleek-ness of the Apple wireless keyboard, and build quality was great (for me), but in the end, you pay a premium for the name, design and fewer modern-day features. Until they update it, I would never consider buying one again.

    Don't purchase this one

    • Written by from Lake Oswego

I've had this Keyboard for maybe 6 months, and 4 of the keys have fallen off. I transport the keyboard from work to my office and back, but I feel like it should stand up to that. Once they fall off, there is no easy way to pop them back on, so the keyboard is basically useless, and I ordered a replacement today from a different company. Also, this keyboard would often repeat keys when waking up, even though the key was only pressed once. Disappointed.

    Exceptionally Impractical

    • Written by

I recently started a job for a company that uses imac's with these included keyboards. I'm learning quickly that this keyboard, which is the same size and form factor to that of a built in keyboard on a laptop, is extremely impractical for full time use as a dedicated desktop keyboard. Along with the added bulk of the battery compartment, this keyboard doesn't even seem to be fit for portable use - so rule that out as well.

There's really no substitute for a real desktop keyboard for dedicated desktop use; with full size responsive keys (not chiclets), numeric keypad, and usb connection (granted thats not what this keyboard is, it's still a poor substitute since that is its intended use).

The one star I did give it is because this still serves as a "decorative" piece when not in use :-P

    I love this keyboard

    • Written by from Red Lion

It would be 5 stars if they offered a model with the extended number pad.

As for the people complaining about the lack of page up / down buttons, using the fn key and the up / down arrow is the shortcut for that and for home and end keys, it's cmd + left / right.

This keyboard is all around fantastic.

    Not Apples worst product

The keyboard constantly disconnects from my Apple TV. Bringing the keyboard closer does help, but only enough to take the edge off the frustration.

Battery compartment design is based on fantasy, not reality

    • Written by from San Carlos

The design of the battery compartment of this device is a piece of wishful thinking. The space between the batteries and the compartment wall is so narrow that the tiniest bit of swelling or corrosion will cause the inner battery to become permanently stuck. Worse: accessing the compartment from the other side requires removing a phillips fastener made of inferior metal which strips instantly. So I am now the owner of an expensive lump of useless metal. (I should point out, too, that these were name-brand Energizer batteries, not cheap knock-offs.)

Earth to Apple: Real batteries can swell up slightly and/or leak if they get too hot. Next time, please design your products with that fact in mind.

P.S. I think it's quite funny that you can't use the five-letter word for a helical phillips-head fastener in this forum. Fastener you, Apple! ;-)

Typing with this keyboard as we speak. I just may go back and get this Logitech keyboard that I saw that was about the same size but a lot cheaper. If end up liking it, this thing is going back. If you are use to typing on your laptop keyboard especially, this will take some adjusting. The keys aren't positioned as you would find on your keyboard. This is to be expected especially given the small form factor the wireless keyboard is.

So far, I love that it's bluetooth and doesn't require a wireless dongle. Still the $70 for this is way over priced for this thing. But at least I know what typing on one of these things is like.

Decent but that's just about it. Save your money and get something else.

    Love it

I really wish they would make a keyboard that's rechargeable with the same charger as the iPhone 5/6. Another thing I'd recommend is backlit keys like the laptops as well as the ability able to plug the keyboard directly into your phone to type faster emails. Other then that it's efficient having a keyboard that has the same layout as your MacBook.
