Not worthy of the Apple logo.

    • Written by from Denver

The fit is pretty substandard. The "hinge" is terrible, and it doesn't close properly most of the time (the edge of the cover pulls away from the edge of the iPad); sometimes it pulls away to the point where the magnets aren't close enough to put the iPad to sleep.

Probably the worst Apple product ever... I can't believe Apple put out something of this quality!

    Waste of Money

Case is fine. Just doesn't work as a stand. My Ipad keeps falling down.

    Rubbish as a stand!

    • Written by from Leeds

Bought this yesterday and it's going back tomorrow! Good as a cover and for use on the lower stand level, but I bought this so it could be displayed on my coffee table and it won't stand up. The magnet is not strong enought and it just keepsa falling over, can't call this a stand, just a cover. Stronger magnet would prob fix it.

    The idea is solid...

    • Written by from PORT COLBORNE

I got this case in January with my iPad and I must admit I was pleased at first, but as I used it the problems became more and more apparent.
First off I noticed that the cover did not hug the screen very well, it would shift in my backpack, turn the screen on and the iPad would be dead before morning classes.
Secondly, the cut outs are all slightly off. I had to use a knife from my garage to widen the charger slot so that it would fit apple's standard lightning cable. Also the hole for the slide at the side is off, and you have to really dig a nail in to get the switch to the "off" position.
Third thing, the way the cover folds should be improved. The keyboard mode is a bit shallow for my liking, however i did manage to take notes on it everyday, but the "movie mode" is terrible. On the Smart Cover it held the iPad at a slight angle to allow stability, but with the this case, it's pretty much straight up, and falls over constantly.
Finally, the build quality is terrible already the hinge is starting to tear at the edges, as well as all the folds on the cover, and the main body of the case is starting to split at the edges.

In short, tis is a solid idea for a case, but it needs some serious refinements before it should wear the apple logo.

The way in which you can prop up the ipad with the cover is very unstable. The material is very flimsy and cheap. The felt-like interior of the cover attracts dirt, as does the outer material. For maybe $20 this would be an ok case. for $50? NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!! Im such a sucker.

Bought it with the iPad, thinking it'd be a good match to protect the tablet. It's cheap, flimsy, especially for the price, doesn't fit snug around the tablet. What's worse, the back of it is larger than the cover, both made out of the same cheap rubber material, meaning the two get stuck together and it's simply impossible to open the cover with a single motion. I should have stuck with my instincts, thinking that a molded piece of rubber shouldn't cost 10% of the price of a hyped up tablet... returned it.

    Stand function doesn't work

    • Written by from Chicago

I bought the case because it could double as a stand. Unfortunately, it cannot. It collapses constantly. When it's not collapsing, the iPad is flipping over. Also, it's not easy to plug the power cord in with the cover on.

New Ipad Smart Case Is NOT Smart

    • Written by

The black polyurethane case we bought with our first ipad (the day they were released) has held up EXCELLENT and was an EXCELLENT design. the "keyboard view" was perfect - the front cover just slipped into a slit in the back. This new one with the multifold front cover WILL NOT HOLD IN KEYBOARD VIEW. Please make the old version available for the new ipads and allow trade in because the bad design is your fault.

Uncomfortable to hold because of unfinished edges

    • Written by from London

Unfinished edges around the lip of the case make this really uncomfortable to hold if used for more than 5 mins. It also doesnt hold my ipad 4th gen securely. Very disappointing quality in total contrast to my fantastic ipad. Avoid.

For $50 I thought this "smart" case would be a good idea. The case doesn't do anything smart. There is a small magnet that turns the screen off when you close it. That's all this does, it's very flimsy and all the folds permanently crease. It get dirty from anything and the "fabric" aspect of it makes it hard to clean. I take ridiculously good care of my things and this case is ripping on the inside corner where it's creased (it shouldn't even be able to crease there) I would say stay away from this item and spend you $50 on something that will function well and protect your iPad. I have only had it for 2-3 months and if I could rate zero stars I would .

Falls over in landscape FaceTime position

    • Written by from Highland

When I use this case in landscape view, it will fall down! I'm afraid of it breaking my iPad! I always have to hold it, and it gets annoying! I asked apple about this problem and they say it just needs to be broken in. I've had it for about 3 months! When will it be broken in? I do not like this case at all!

this case is the worst thing apple has designed except for the lisa. i returned mine within 15 minutes of opening it. your ipad will not stand-up unlike the original smart case. I decided to continue to use my original smart case and bought a third party backing to protect my ipad

    Not worth it

    • Written by from Sparwood

I got this for Christmas, along with the new iPad. While it does a decent job protecting the back of my iPad, the front flap is horrendous. It stopped putting my iPad to sleep and waking it up after three weeks, and the magnets are so weak that the flap doesn't stay closed. Often, I'll go into my backpack and find that it slid to the side, exposing the screen. The 'stand' option is flimsy at best. My only good thing about it is that it puts the iPad at the right angle to function as a keyboard prop up. The edges are sharp as well, making it difficult to hold onto for any length of time. The flap also leaves lines across the screen from where it folds. It's not worth the $60

    iPad Smart Case falling apart

    • Written by from Sioux Falls

I've had the smart case for about 2 years. About 6 months ago the seam started splitting apart. Now it is apart on two and a half sides. BAD product quality. I know it wouldn't last for ever but using glue? Why not stitched? $50 is a lot to pay for something that only lasts 18 months on a $1000 iPad purchase! Shame Apple!

Not a great case for me personally!

    • Written by from Palos Heights

This case did not meet my needs. Very well built, but not functional for rapid typing due to its almost flat profile. It really gets awkward and just needs another 1/2 inch elevation. The vertical stand is ok, but wobbly and again the pitch is not what I would consider optimal for a person seated unless you move it quite a distance back. All materials and construction are top flight.

The glue that keeps it together gave out. For 50$ didn't expect it to fall apart so quickly. Designed in USA but definitely Made In China.

    Falling Apart

    • Written by from Norfolk

I was pretty happy with the case when I first got it - snug fit, light, microfiber liner of the front cover was a plus. Only down side was the sharp, exposed seam, which isn't particularly pleasant for holding, and seemed like a possible locus for stress and failure. I should have seen it coming, but I had been very pleased with the Apple case I used on my iPad 1 for 2 1/2 years. Within 3-4 months that protruding seam started to separate and now at the 7 month point it has opened up along all 3 exposed edges and is on the verge of total failure.

This quality of this version is just pitiful and should be an embarrassment to the product designers at Apple. Did anyone do any testing before pushing it out the door?

    Coming apart

    • Written by from Trois-Ruisseaux

Bought this for my wife in March. Material started coming away from hard cover in May, now the clips don't hold the iPad in place......making it fall out. Exactly the opposite of what I wanted. Really liked it at first, wonder if I just got a bad one. Haven't tried for any recourse yet (bought from an apple vending machine in the Ottawa airport), hoping for the best! Hard to recommend at this point.

This thing is absolutely terrible. It is uncomfortable to hold. It makes your ipad look like it's wearing an oversized clothing. The flap is not easy to open if you don't have nails and when you open and flip it to the back it doesn't get attached to the back cover so it hangs off your fingers which I find very uncomfortable. And on top of all that it is not cheap. A definite return!

    Expensive and NOT durable

    • Written by from Topanga

For the price of this thing I expected it to not fall apart at the seams within 18 months of at home use. My iPad actually fell out of the case through the split in the seem and smashed the corner of the screen. I am very disappointed in this overpriced product .
