    This packaging is an embarassment

Isn't apple a company that prides itself on the presentation of a product? There is way too long of a track record reporting issues with the packaging. Unfortunately I didn't see them before I opened mine. I've converted basically 100% to apple products in the last 2 years and have been generally happy with quality.

This story sounds like a joke but I promise it's not.

I, like the hoards of others, opened the product 'wrong'. Due to the resistance created by designing the base of the package and the cover in such a way that little to no air can escape as the two pieces are being separated, it takes an extra bit of force remove the cover. Certainly not a lot but enough that I realized (after the fact) that I had put in a little more effort than I would have otherwise had to.

Combine that with the fact that the recess at the base of the packaging is WAY too shallow. I measured it as an inch. The thing is holding a $300 brick with a hard drive and sharper edges. What moron thought it was a good idea to design the packaging for that piece of equipment like that? Please for the love of all that is holy make sure that guy does not ever get a chance to design a bridge. "Yeah that holes plenty deep enough, just throw the beam in. Foundations? Who needs em!"

Anyways I opened the package and needless to say the thing tipped right off the base. My unfortunate split second reaction to seeing my brand new $300 toy brick plummeting towards a tile floor was to stick my foot out. In a 'kicking' motion if you will. Like when one is juggling a soccer ball and it takes a bad bounce. You know it's going to the ground but you make a flailing effort to revive it anyways. Maybe 1 in 5 times you make sufficient contact and the ball pops back up. I made sufficient contact alright, but my iBrick did not pop back up. I struck it flush with my bare foot, shin. It was honestly the most painful experience I've had in the last several years. It is a distinct possibility I have multiple broken bones.

Other than that, I'm loving my time capsule so far!

    Amazing difference with Apple Engineering

I just recently purchased a Western Digital "My Cloud" to use with the family of Macintosh products that I have at my house. I was intrigued by it's low price point, Macintosh compatibility, and variety of access features that it advertised. It did not take long to see, and I'm technologically proficient, how terrible not only the setup was, but also it's performance. It was slow, multiplied by a labyrinth of different setup procedures that left you guessing if you were taking full advantage of it's functionality or not. Needless to say I took the Western Digital back to the store.

I then purchased this Airport Extreme with 2TB time capsule and took it home with me. Within 10-15 minutes, I had disabled my current wireless gateway, configured the airport, and it was immediately backing up all of my devices. Incredible! I love the simplicity that comes with well engineered Apple products. Also, even though I didn't need a new wireless router, I am appreciating the AC technology as it backs up incredibly fast!!!!

    Nice job Apple!!!

Simple, Sleek, Fast, Reception and Compatibility

The title says it all! I am very impressed on how the Airport Time Capsule functions! The router is located in my basement of a 3 story house. The third story gets full bar reception! Haven't seen that much since I had an access point set up in the home!

Looks simple and un-noticed as a router, blends in with it's modern design! Just have the wires well set up and clean and you're good!

Blackberry to Windows PC to the Macbook Air, iPad and iMac (2009) all connect instantly! It is as if the internet is built in to my devices these days.

B/G/N/AC - My cellphone alone goes 433 Mb/s (N/AC) with over 12 devices connected on the network at the same time.

Time Capsule - 2TB, Wicked feature to have!

    Keep the competition going Apple!

Great until it died 4 months later

Best router and backup - couldn't have been happier! Then, it died in just 4 months. Power light went out and that was it... Not sure what is going on with apple quality, but I also bought a mac book pro that had to be returned due to a known video card issue... :(
I'll get another most likely, but not counting on this for my only backup!

    Don't buy it!

I bought mine 9 months ago and now it has so much problem that I don't know what to do anymore. The wi-fi works fine, but the back up just give headache.

Wifi is great, time capsule is flaky

I bought the time capsule for the convenience of wireless backups, but instead ended up with a very cumbersome device.

Backups frequently stall and end up incomplete, going unnoticed for days. The only solution I've found is to reboot my Macbook Air, which isn't really a solution at all, and is only effective for a day or two.

Save your money and get an Airport express and stick to a USB backup. A very poor experience.

    Rubbish

Does not do what it is supposed to. If you want to enter a world of slow back ups and be unable to access the data you have saved on the time capsule then go ahead and waste £249. It is so slow you cannot access anything on it. Enable as router - not possible unless you are a trained Internet programmer and understand double nat and dhcp. Don't waste your money...

    It keeps shutting off

It was very easy to set up and connect with the cable modem. I love how quiet it is, and of course the fact that I can back up wirelessly. However, I've had it for about a week and it has shut itself off about seven different times on different days, leaving the internet out for the entire house. I have to unplug it each time and power it up again. It's sitting on clean ceramic tile floor next to a table so I doubt it's overheating. I'm going to take it back tomorrow. Big waste of time since I backed up my 2TB iMac with Time Machine. and I will now have to set up the old router and re-pair my family's 30 or so devices to the network and extenders, etc.

Its ok but beware of surprises

I have had my time capsule for almost 8 months now. Normally when the time capsule doesn't connect properly I can just turn it off and turn it back on and everything works fine, but tonight it forced me to delete my old backup and start from scratch. There were no other options, I couldn't even put my old backups in another location on the time capsule and start a new backup. I have lost total faith in this product not to mention access to 8 months of backups which was the primary reason I bought this. Really disappointed.

    Disappointed

Have to say that I'm more than a little disappointed with Apple. The expected "plug it in and it just works" was just as expected . . . at first.

My first Time Capsule was plagued with errors and I kept having trouble connecting to the drive until, after a few months, it just died.

I'll not go into the annoyance I had trying to get someone at the Apple Store to just replace the darn thing, or at least send it off for repair - Apple's insistence in booking an appointment (next week) with someone at at the Genius Bar was just going to be a waste of my time. I had to insist on seeing the manager to just get a retail replacement i.e. my consumer rights regarding faulty products. (they wouldn't send it for repair).

So, had the new one for a few months and, whilst time machine does indeed seem to be backing up both of our laptops, I still have great trouble being able to connect to the drive through Finder. Surely this should "just work" like most other Apple product, but it doesn't. I've tried all of the FAQs and Forums without results - therefore I remain disappointed.

AirPort Time Capsule - 2TB Fantastic!

Living in a new build three floored house it was hit and miss at times when i would have a wifi signal on the top floor of my house, having tried all sorts of bits and bobs to improve the signal i finally dig deep and got one of these. The setup was super quick but had to work out how to turn off the wifi signal from my sky hub took a bit of time.
I decided to try a Airport Extreme to boost it even better and i can now say there is fantastic wifi all over the house.
My biggest criticism would be the price and the 6 hours it took to do a back up but apart from that its all good.

    Time Capsule (replaced 3 times)

The Time Capsule (2T) has been nothing but a nightmare. You just need to negative reviews to understand why I am rating it as a lemon (disconnecting, slow to backup, unreliable, unaccessible etc.) As for the people that are finding it a true miracle, it would be interesting to know how long these people have had their unit and to which product they are comparing it to. I have two other different hard disks and they work much better than this! I should have known better that to buy something that does wi-fi and backup. I am finding that it just doesn't work!

    Poor performance

Wifi signal is horrible, I have 2 of them to have signal in my home.
Performance is horrible, I tried to use it for iTunes, but due to performance issues iTunes will not download to that location.
Backup doesn't work on the Timecapsule due to performance issues.
I used the time capsule as router.... Well it brings back old times, just like a dial up connection..
Apple TV streaming.... nah, forget it.
Apple support??? HA, I would be better of asking my wife.

This all on a stable internet connection of 200Mbits. Got my old router back and my old NAS, all problems are over.

    I DO NOT RECOMMEND
Constant connection problems with my Macbook air in any kind of OS for several months, no solution. Go buy something else, doesn't worth it.

    Keeps needing a restart

Macbook Pro, iPad and iPhone 6 are all fine on the network as they use the 5Ghz version.... iPhone 4s keeps losing network all the time at the 2.4Ghz keeps needing a restart. Turn off and back on again and it works again. Never had this problem once when using the BT home hub. Glad that the Macbook has got a wireless backup drive but disappointed in the amount of times I need to restart it.

    Impressed!!!

I had a Linksys router and separate Seagate backup drive. As a router the Time Capsule blows the Linksys away! My Linksys router picked up interference and lost its signal whenever I used my microwave, and I had to reconnect to my network whenever I brought my Mac Air out of sleep mode. The Time Capsule never drops, has no issues with the microwave, and all my devices automatically pick it up. Time Machine make back ups a piece of cake and there’s never a need to connect to an external drive. I just turn on Time Machine. Set up was a breeze – only required a couple of mouse clicks.

I was an Apple doubter for a longtime. But I am sold! They are way more than a mobile phone company!

Hands down, best stylish and fastest router.

Now this is router quality you get for the price even if it's Apple! Nothing compares to this which Inlove most about using the time capsule for it. Wish Microsoft thought of this at the time because this is a huge leap forward to making the most of my experience. Speed of light, I can be as far as I want in my home and the range is still perfect! My neighbors are impressed how they can connect from their homes to.
