    Excellent thus far.

I bought an AirPort Extreme which I could not get to work properly, I returned it and had an Apple Store set this up for me and it has so far worked faultlessly.

    Fast and Easy

I needed a backup for my Mac and went with Time Capsule. I thought I would use my current Airport Extreme as an extender to improve signal in the farthest room in my house. The 811.ac technology was a nice-to-have for future upgrades.

As a router, this thing really flies. Fast and strong coverage across the wide angle I need. I don't really need to use my Airport Extreme as an extender. The directional antenna feature (I think) only works with the 811.ac devices, but no worries, my current devices work great.

As for the Time Machine, the set up was so easy I was kinda disappointed I didn't get to play with it more. The application figured everything out for me and I was up and running in no time. I added a scheduling app from the App Store for $4 so that the backups would be done at night. The default setting is pretty aggressive with hourly backups.

All in all, couldn't ask for more.

    Simple easy and fast.

Apple household with a number of Apple products including Laptops, desktops, iPad's and iPhone. All except for one, are WiFi connected and situated/used in various locations in the dwelling. There are no solid barriers for the WiFi to (attempt) penetrate. Walls are gip rock and timber framed with solid timber doors. Outer walls are brick. Outside (dwelling) WiFi connectivity, from the AirPort, is excellent.

The time capsule portion is used via a ethernet connection and also WiFi, sharing the backup of 2x devices using the WiFi, networked via a second Airport Time capsule, used to extend the WiFI Network (establishing a extended WiFi network is simple, using the Airport Utility APP). All works well and the drives a easily made visible on the network if desired. WiFi speeds are excellent. The desktop machine connected to the second time capsule via a ethernet connection, but using the extended WiFi network for internet connectivity, performs similarly to a laptop directly connected via ethernet, to my ISP's router. The desktop is a going on 5 year old, iMac. Other devices (iPads/iPhones) backup, using the WiFi network to iCloud (automated).

Setting up the 5GHz network capabilities is the key. If your devices can use 5GHz make sure they log onto this. My iPhone 5 can "Speedtest" at up to 100Mbps (download) to my ISP's server and regularly tests at 50Mbps plus, down to a non iSP server (all servers are within 20klm of my location). It tests at 2/2.4 Mpbs up (that is fast for this country). I do have a "fast" HFC connection (for this country).

Time capsule is a easy to use excellent backup system and is well complimented and supported by the AirPort. The WiFi is excellent, probably the best I have used, with the ability to combine the 5Ghz and 2.5Ghz frequencies allowing very fast network speeds, with the later model Apple WiFi capable products.

    Complete waste of $$$$

Bought this to improve wifi signal throughout my 2 level home. It is physically connected to a Fritzbox 7270. Easy set up, no problems there. But resulting signal is no better than the original Fritzbox.

Lesson learned: spend my money on a good modem, and a NAS system like Lacie 2 big.!!!

    Typical Apple Brilliance!

I balked at the price and went off to find a cheaper alternative as my old back up drive had failed. The new one would work but not as stated without a complete reformat. I also had to use my Mac as the server. Having purchased the Time Capsule I Plugged the drive in and followed the simple on screen instructions. My main data is still being backed up but I can access from both the iPads and all the iPhones. That took less than ten minutes to set up without using the manual. This is excellent tech. that works out of the box.

    Everything you can ask for!

I purchased this rougher due to the reliability issues I was having with my old one. I have had it for about a week now and am simply amazed at how much better this one is. The range coverage I am getting is almost twice as good as the old one. I also am averaging a speed thru the router 4-5mpbs faster than the old. This router is definitely worth the cost!

    LOVE

I don't usually write reviews but i just purchased this and I love it. I am happy I bought it because the reviews almost deterred me. It's only the first day, but it works great. Easy set up, no problems at all.

    Great Router

This is a wonderful product. It delvers incredibly fast wireless to the 15+ devices that are constantly connected to my network. I have had absolutely no connection or other issues. Well worth the cost.

Exceptional performance, easy setup, WiFi never blazed like this before.

Always had luck with the Airport Extreme base station and wanted to get 802.11ac performance with Google Fiber and a new iMac. Once everything was in place, there is a wow factor with the numbers. Downloaded an 11.7 Gb file in 7 minutes. Sustained 680 Mbps speed on an internet speed test site with a similar upload speed. That's through a WiFi. There may be other routers out there but I'm kind of astounded at the leap forward with this particular offering over the last one. Ease of use, agree with others. After I set it up, it was like, "That's it? It's working?" I extended the network with the AirPort Extreme, again very easily.

I'm happy with the time it took to backup 70 Gb of data as well, about 45 minutes. Pretty solid performance. The previous setup would take 20 hours to perform the same task.

If there are any downsides I just don't see them. This one performs exactly as promised.

    Great idea poorly executed

I had a Time Capsule for a year and a half before it died. That's not lot long after the warranty expired. It simply stopped powering on. Well, at least the hard drive itself is probably fine, so data recovery should be easy, right? Alas, retrieving the physical hard drive is not trivial (although there are sites that provide a walk-through for how to do it.)

This was not my first trouble with the Time Capsule. Once it simply refused further backups, and had to be reformatted before it could be used for backups again.

The idea of automatic backups without user action is great, so I think the *idea* of Time Capsule is terrific. But my experience is that it's unreliable, and there's not much point in an unreliable backup.

    As Advertised

I previously owned the Airport Extreme router from apple and had nothing but a positive experience for the years that I owned it. It was time for an upgrade for all our new IOS devices and iMacs so I took the plunge on the 2TB time capsule. After a slight roadblock with my cable companies modem everything works perfectly. The range is great for wifi as well. My apple TV is in the living room and is blocked by 5 walls and the signal is definitely stronger than the old one. The storage space is just right for my wife and I using two separate macs. All in all it was a great buy made even better with the iPhone app by purchasing the unit on the iPhone and picking it up 20 minutes later at the local apple store. Nice product, as advertised!

    Excellent

I have used many different WiFi routers over the years, including custom open-source versions, but this device beats them all in terms of ease-of-use and functionality. I have installed two AirPort Time Capsules so far and they have been flawless, both as WiFi access points and TimeMachine disks, for several months of 24x7 operation. The beam steering antennas provide outstanding range with no drop-outs. They provide solid performance for several Macs, Windows laptops, Android tablets and smartphones. Excellent value.

Easy setup and powerful and fast wi-fi!

I purchased this to replace my old 1TB AirPort, the one with the low profile. This current model is exponentially better. They've added antennas, changed it to a vertical profile (with the antennas at the top - better to transmit and receive) and paired it with VERY easy network setup in the current Mavericks OS. I had it all set up and working within a couple of minutes of getting it out of the box. The frustration I had with the old model was that the wi-fi signal, although strong, seemed to choke the speed of my connection. This current model is insanely powerful - I'm loading web pages on my iOS devices without any delay. Streaming to those devices is seamless. And the range is far better than before - it covers all of my property, making repeaters unnecessary for the first time. If you're also replacing an older AirPort, you could probably use the older model as a repeater - but I didn't have to. I use the AirPort's wi-fi signal instead of my wireless router's signal, because it's far more powerful.

And, of course, the whole Time Machine backup is seamless - as usual. I couldn't be happier.

    Unreliable. Slow.

Small wired and wireless environment of 8 desktops (iMacs ands Mac Minis) and 8 laptops (MacBook Pros and Macbook Airs). Clean reliable AC power to all computers and devices backed up by a huge battery bank.
Apple TimeCapsule requires frequent reboots. Gets warm.
    Made some improvements.
    Cooler environment.
Used a external WiFi, turned off internal WiFi.
Attached a external HDD. Did not use internal HDD.
Used a external router for network and Internet traffic.
Still required rebooting due to it not being recognized at times.
The storage is never visible outside the local LAN. Even DMZing the device failed to make it discoverable from outside the LAN. Gave up on that feature.
    No local encryption feature.

    Conclusion:
Not fit for a business environment, too slow, too unreliable, not secure.
A Mac Mini server would be better at all those things, however much more expensive and the WiFi antenna is poor.
To setup a workable Time Machine for a Apple environment is a bit messy and expensive.
No solution for Macs yet for easy, fast and reliable backups.

    Great hard drive/router

Bought the Time Capsule after returning a SeaGate hard drive. As far as back ups and storage, which is my primary reason for buying, it is awesome. No issues so far and it functions as well as the other reviews have stated. Set up took 3 minutes, created my own network that I bridged off my current cable company provided router, and it sped up my streaming a little bit. My only issue, which I knew before buying, was that you can't access it when not in range of the signal. But that was expected. Great product, worth the money.

    Time capsule = JUNK

I have been a mac/apple fan boy since the late 90's and have had nothing but good things to say; repeated referrals; and constant upgrades. My time capsule is the biggest waste of money ever spent on technology; and to make it even worse no support from apple. Investing several hundred dollars on something that quits far before my cheap external hard drive is an embarrassment.

Great Router with the bonus of wireless backup!

Added this to an existing Apple Airport network... The cable modem attached to the main Airport Express is upstairs and most of our time is spent downstairs... Before adding the Time Capsule, the average speeds down stairs was about 10 Mbs.. After, they average 55 Mbs! GREAT increase!!!! VERY happy with the purchase! Plus it works as advertised for wireless back ups of both of our macbook pros!

    Great Router

This router/ hard drive (for backup) is awesome!!! The range on it is twice that of the net gear router that I replaced. The support from Apple is spot on and very reliable!!! Would definitely recommend this for anyone looking to purchase a new router or wifi for your home network!!! A+ for Apple and their AirPort Time Capsule and Support Team!!!!!!
