    Well worth the money!

I spent a lot of time researching the different routers because I was having issues with dropped connections and losing connections in certain areas of my house. I will mention my modem is in the worst possible place in my house, the back bedroom in the corner. With my old router, the only computer that had wifi beyond the living room was my Mac. When I was at the apple store purchasing my MacBook Pro, the salesperson informed me that an airport would be covered under my apple care. So I did some more research and since almost all of my wireless devices are apple I figured this would be the best move. Set up was extremely easy on my MacBook Pro and all other apple devices. I will say that trying to connect my Dell was a bit harder. I recommend downloading AirPort Utility for anyone who has a Windows running computer. Once I did it, there was only a few more steps that I needed to take. I'm pretty good with computers, so if you aren't connecting this to an apple computer and aren't really tech savvy, this may not be the best router for you. I have amazing range, took my computer to the backyard and still had 3 bars. Before also I would only be able to have two devices connected without seeing an issue with connectivity. As I'm writing this we have an iPod, iPad, Apple Tv, Dell Computer, and MacBook Pro all connected and the connection is perfect on all the devices. Moving forward I will be sticking with all Apple products!

    WOW...we got the best!

    • Written by from Gainesville

we had problems with our wireless system in our house for the past few months. We have a 3800 square foot old home (concrete block!!) and all of our products are apple. it was a nightmare getting signal across our home. We had an airport extreme from 2009. we were always dropping signal. we replaced our cable modem, had new wiring, purchased several extenders and still could not get signal across our house. We read bunch of reviews and saw pretty good reviews on this gem. WOW! are we impressed! this thing works right out of the box. it was an easy set up as expected. now the signal across our home is so strong! the signal never drops. absolutely the best! we highly recommend this product! you will not be disappointed.

10 to 20 seconds it's WiFi: On, the next 10 to 20 seconds it's WiFi: Looking for Networks.

No steady connection lasting more than 30 seconds.

Can't reliably access printers, other computers, or internet. This is very damaging to us.

    Great product !

    • Written by from Largo

When I bought my MacBook Air 13" i5, 4GB RAM and 128GB Flash Storage, I bought this AirPort Extreme. I had a slight problem getting it connected and everything because Verizon isn't the best internet provider. After getting it to work with a green light on and the internet actually working, it works flawlessly ! I live in a 1,000+ sq ft home and I get connection through the entire house, I go outside that has 3 acres, I can still get 2-3 connection bars all the way out there. I haven't had a single problem with it since I bought it and I'm glad I bought it. Lightning fast internet, long distance connection, it's just a perfect device !

    Not a good product

I have to restart this device at least once every week. I had no problems with my previous AirPort Extreme running for many years without any restart required. Very disappointed.

    Works great

    • Written by from Kirkland

Had a Comcast router which was terrible.
We were always getting dropped and could Only have 4 devises at once.
Also had little to no reception at the other end of the house and it caused bad interference in my wireless xbox headphones. Switched to Comcast standard modem and add the extreme.
Solved all my problems. Never seen our iPads or iMac load pages so fast. Hasn't dropped a devise yet.

Take this with a grain of salt,

my new (refurbished) AirPort Extreme was basically dead on arrival.

I set it up numerous times and the unit just keeps powering off.

I am having this unit replaced tomorrow.

    Amazing Print Server Capabilities

The router works amazing as a print server for the small business world. We were able to quickly setup Xerox and Canon printers, which made the process of network printer amazingly simple. Love this machine!

Excellent APEx upgrade from my older APExtreme

    • Written by from Folsom

Huge Apple product fan and have been using APExpress, APEtreme, and Applt TV for many years now and decided to upgrade to the newer, smaller foot print, APExtreme. Without a doubt, its has increased my local range along with faster data transmission times. The setup was 10x easier than I thought it would be, since my old system is WPA2 with every peripheral secured, but I just plugged it in, booted up my Mac and Airport Utility software, and it walked me through migrating my old systems settings over to the new one, AMAZING and so SIMPLISTIC! Started to check all my other peripherals and everything was linked to the new APExtreme, no problems.

I thoroughly read many reviews about the performance of the Airport Extreme and was skeptical even at the time of purchase. Had read that it did not communicate well with older versions of the Airport Express (i have two) so I also bought one of those just in case... But then just out of the box connected all of them (Airport Extreme the two older AExpress, the new one, all to different stereos throughout the house)to a single glitch during installation or lost signal in the month and a half since I installed my network. I can say that am really happy how Apple products work together...

    Xmas woes

    • Written by from Enfield

I was given Apple TV for Xmas and successfully hooked it up. But, having done that it pretty much brought down my wifi, what with being a family with an iMac, 2 iPads, 2 mini iPads, 3 iPods an Xbox and Sky Catch up. I then bought Airport Extreme and whilst we haven't noticed a massive improvement in speed, we can now all access wifi with no problem. Well worth the money!

    Worse than 2 generations ago!

    • Written by from Sparks

I replaced my Airport Extreme from 2 generations ago because I got the new Macbook Pro with AC and it was a big mistake. When it works, it's extremely fast. Unfortunately, it works for maybe 2 hours than disconnects. I've tried absolutely everything I could think of, including calling applecare numerous times, to no avail. It simply does not work. I have 5 webcams, numerous game consoles (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One) 2 laptops, 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, and even more connected to the internet. However, with this new router I have to routinely reset every single connection every 2 hours and power on and off the router to get the internet. The sad part is, when I plug in the old router from years ago it works perfectly fine with all those devices and I have no problems (just no AC for the macbook pro).

    So Far So Good!!!!

    • Written by from Pasadena

Just installed my new Airport Extreme and it is much stronger then 5th Gen. I tested both routers at same time in the worst part of my house.

    5th Gen: 18MB down/3.98MB up
    6th Gen: 38MB down/4MB up

Will retest 6th gen again later tonight when people get home and our node is stressed. Stay tuned.

    Do NOT upgrade!

    • Written by from Stamford

Had a 3 year old apple router that worked flawlessly for years. Decided that AC must be better than N so upgraded and have had nothing but nightmares since. The internal network has been inconsistent, slow, and sometimes non-existent (am talking about internal wireless network, not external internet as that could be the ISP's fault). Apple help has very superficial help and has not been able to solve the issue after 4 extensive calls, 1 replacement of hardware, and plenty of online troubleshooting. There is NO reason to move from the old and proven router to this poorly made and untested hardware. VERY disappointed in Apple for making such a poor product.

    AirPort Extreme December 2013 Review

    • Written by from Earlville

After a great amount of internet review searches on the new AirPort Extreme; I decided to buy one and find out if it lived up to expectations. I already have an AirPort Express for all of my international travels and am pleased with its performance.

I live in a 3,000 square foot home built in the late 1800s on a small horse ranch and required a signal from the AirPort Extreme out to the stables for IP camera use. I also wanted to use my small Airport Express as a range extender to cover any blind spots in the stables.

The AirPort Extreme has covered my entire home and up to 100 Yards (300-feet) with stellar performance and full signal. It did however begin to have the signal fall off in various areas of the stables. This is where I found my small Airport Express as a great range extender and covered all those areas with a weaker signal.

In closing - the AirPort Extreme is a robust wifi router with one of the strongest signal strengths I have ever used. When utilized with the Airport Utility software found as an iTunes app or the Windows version available on line; the setup and monitoring thereafter are outstanding and delivers as promised. I gave the AirPort Extreme 4-stars as opposed to the full 5-stars; due to the few added complexities associated with utilizing any other manufactures hardware with an Apple product. Similar to other router manufactures.

By the way; all the IP cameras in the stables maintain a consistent communication with the Airport Extremes signal and work with stellar performance!
Note:- some other reviews claimed that use of the Airport Express as a range extender for the AirPort Extreme would cause a 50% speed decrees. While I did see a slight decrease, due to added link in wifi chain; a 50% loss is not even close to accurate and like all other information on the internet - read a lot and take an average of opinions for your decision.

    More ethernet ports

    • Written by from Redwood City

Why oh why can't Apple put another couple of ports in this thing? There are only 3 usable ports in here after the WAN port. I have a NAS plus two VoIP phone lines, which leaves no room to connect my iMac up with hardline! I think this device, at $199, should have at least 7 usual ports after the WAN port. Look up the price of gigabit routers and other devices in this price range have at least 8 ports. 3 stars until it gets more ports, then 5.
