Bonjour for Windows 1.0.4

This update is recommended for all Bonjour users to improve usability and compatibility.

About Bonjour
Bonjour, also known as zero-configuration networking, enables automatic discovery of computers, devices, and services on IP networks. Bonjour uses industry standard IP protocols to allow devices to automatically discover each other without the need to enter IP addresses or configure DNS servers.

System requirements
Bonjour requires Windows 2000/2003, Windows XP or Windows Vista. Make sure you have the latest Service Pack installed for your computer using Windows Update.

Users running 64-bit versions of Windows XP or Windows Vista can download a compatible version of Bonjour for Windows 1.0.4 here.

Bonjour is a networking protocol that sends and receives network packets on UDP port 5353. If you have a "personal firewall" enabled, you will need to ensure that UDP port 5353 is open for Bonjour to work correctly. Certain firewalls will only partially block Bonjour packets, so if you experience intermittent behavior, check the firewall settings and verify that Bonjour is listed as an exception and is allowed to receive incoming packets. Bonjour will configure the Windows firewall appropriately during installation on Windows XP Service Pack 2 and above.

Installing Bonjour
Double-click the Bonjour installer and follow the onscreen instructions.

When installing over a previous version of Bonjour for Windows, please remove any existing instances of Bonjour for Windows through the "Add or Remove Programs" Control Panel before installing Bonjour for Windows 1.04.

If Java is not present at the time of installation and you decide to install Java at a later date, you will need to do a Repair install of Bonjour for Windows in order to get the proper Java Bonjour libraries. To do a Repair install, go to the "Add or Remove Programs" Control Panel, select Bonjour from the list and click "Change/Remove". Then choose "Repair" and follow the onscreen instructions.

What's included
Bonjour for Windows includes a plugin to discover advertised HTTP servers using Internet Explorer. Click the Bonjour icon in the Internet Explorer toolbar to enable Bonjour browsing. If you have Bonjour devices on your local network with embedded HTTP (Web) servers, they will appear in the list.

The Bonjour Printer Wizard is also included and allows Windows computers to print to Bonjour networked printers, including USB shared printers connected to the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express Base Stations. Since Apple first launched Bonjour in 2002, every major maker of network printers has adopted Bonjour. With the Bonjour Printer Wizard, computers using Windows can also experience the benefits of effortlessly discovering and printing to these Bonjour printers.

Known Issues
A small number of Virtual Private Network (VPN) clients interfere with Bonjour. If you find that you can no longer discover network services or print to Bonjour shared printers, try logging out of VPN.

More information
Bonjour is commonly installed by third-party software to provide zero-configuration networking capabilities to various applications. If your version of Bonjour does not include the IE plugin or Printer Wizard mentioned above, and you would like these features, you can download the complete Bonjour for Windows package from Apple's web site by visiting http://www.apple.com/bonjour/.

Developers can download the Bonjour SDK to add Bonjour technology to their applications. For more information about developing products that use Bonjour, and to download the SDK, please visit http://developer.apple.com/bonjour/.

Providing Feedback
If you have specific product feedback, visit http://www.apple.com/feedback/bonjour/.

AirPort Express Firmware Update 6.1.1

- Hard reset behavior is improved. With this firmware version pressing and holding the reset button for more than 5 seconds will cause the LED to flash rapidly. This visual feedback lets you know you’ve held the button long enough to trigger a hard reset

- Improved reliability of WDS networks when using WPA security. If you had a WDS network secured by WPA and then removed any of the WDS nodes, this could cause a memory leak resulting in the need to reboot your WDS network nodes

- Resolved an issue with inbound passive FTP to a port-mapped computer on the network

- Resolved an issue with certain printers which were no longer recognized by the base station after the 6.1 firmware update was installed. With the 6.1.1 firmware these printers are again recognized by the base station.

The following items were part of the previous 6.1 release and are also included in this firmware:

- AirPort firmware updates are now packaged in a new utility application which simplifies the process of installing firmware updates. This application is available for use on Mac OS X computers (10.3 and later) and on Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP computers

- Support for Keyspan Express Remote - You can now use a <ahref=http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?partNumber=TB638LL/A>Keyspan Express Remote to control AirTunes.

- USB printer renaming - USB printers connected to the AirPort Express can now be renamed by using the AirPort Admin Utility (version 4.1 or later).

- WPA security for WDS networks - WDS networks comprising AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express base stations can now be secured with WPA-Personal security. All AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express units must be upgraded to the latest AirPort Extreme 5.5 or AirPort Express 6.1 firmware before the network can be secured with WPA

- Improved reliability for WDS networks - WDS nodes will now check for the presence of other WDS nodes. This should result in better WDS network connectivity. All AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express units must be upgraded to the AirPort Extreme 5.5 or AirPort Express 6.1 firmware

- Ability to disable the AirPort wireless interface - If you have your AirPort Express connected to an ethernet network for use with audio and printing features, you can now turn off the AirPort wireless interface if you do not wish to have a wireless network

- Ability to disable the ethernet interface - When the AirPort Express is configured as a wireless client, the ethernet interface is non-functional. You can now completely disable it so that ethernet connections will not recognize a link from the ethernet port on the AirPort Express. This setting will also disable the ethernet port when the AirPort Express is used as a WDS Relay or WDS Remote node

- The 6.1 firmware improves reliability of playing AirTunes audio through the AirPort Express

- In certain situations wireless clients could send certain types of data which could cause the AirPort Express to stop transmitting data. This issue is fixed in the 6.1 firmware

- The 6.1 firmware fixes performance and other concerns related to FTP, RTSP, IPSec, TCP, UDP, and other IP protocols

- Certain DNS traffic could affect the AirPort Express performance. This issue is improved in the 6.1 firmware

- Certain PPPoE connections (commonly used with DSL ISPs) could encounter a situation where the AirPort Express could not communicate with the ISP, requiring the base station and/or the ISP’s modem to be rebooted. This issue is improved in the 6.1 firmware

- Improved behavior when AirPort Express is configured as a wireless client and is joining a WEP-secured wireless network

- Improved printing performance when printing to USB printers connected to the AirPort Express

- Certain IP ports that were not actively used have been disabled
