Apple 1 to 1 Learning
Beachwood Middle School (BMS) has long been at the forefront of educational technology innovation. The recipient of a National School Board Association Technology Leadership Award, two U. S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Awards, and countless other regional and national accolades for academic excellence, BMS has always recognized the value of technology to provide a quality educational experience.
We really feel that the iBook laptops are making a difference for our students, in terms of how we prepare them for the future.
Ed Bernetich, Principal, Beachwood Middle School
In the past, BMS offered an interactive social studies classroom that featured networked iMac computers at each students desk. Three iBook Wireless Mobile Labs also provided instant Internet access to students in classrooms that lacked computers, and three traditional computer labs were available for technology-based lessons. Then in the fall of 2003, all seventh and eighth grade students and teachers received wireless iBook laptops running Mac OS X.
Within days, says Principal Ed Bernetich, the change in the culture at BMS was remarkable. Not only did the iBook laptops enable anytime, anywhere learning, but they also allowed BMS students to take advantage of rich online resources that were a significant aid in the learning process. Today, BMS teachers are enjoying the chance to create innovative lesson plans based on their iBook computers. From following the progress of the Mars Rover, to the Iditarod dog sled races in Alaska, to the presidential candidates on the campaign trail, BMS students now have the chance for real-time, self-directed learning with their iBook laptops.
