Apple and Maine. Bringing digital learning to every student.

The Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) deploys Mac computers throughout the public school system to create a brand-new learning environment where students use computers as learning tools.

A Mac for everyone.

Since 2002, the MLTI has provided all seventh- and eighth‑grade students in Maine public schools with their own own MacBook to use both inside and outside the classroom. All teachers from seventh through 12th grade get their own Macs as well. Both students and teachers have learned to use technology for learning, research, collaboration, communication, and creative self-expression.

Outstanding results.

As a result of the initiative, student engagement and motivation are up, absenteeism and disciplinary incidents are down, and Maine students are achieving at higher levels than ever before. Today, students in Maine schools who participate in the MLTI are different learners because they’ve had 24-hour access to the latest digital tools. And they’re better prepared for the future, thanks to the useful skills their computers have helped them develop.
