Apple 1 to 1 Empowers Unique Learners
Profiles in Success: Currey Ingram Academy
In the traditional computer lab, says Baugh, students only had time to do the basics, like typing a document. Acquiring these skills is important, of course. But technology is going to play a major part of every students life. So we felt it was critical to integrate technology throughout all of the disciplines English, social studies, math, and so forth. And the only possible way to do that was by ensuring that each student has an iBook at all times.
With their iBook laptops, our students have found that having information at their fingertips and not having to go back, rewrite, and edit endlessly really taps their curiosity for learning.

iBook Opens Up New Avenues for Learning
From the first moment students got their hands on their iBook laptops, teachers began seeing dramatic changes. Kathy Rayburn, head of school, says the 1 to 1 learning model immediately opened up exciting new avenues for communication, collaboration, and individualized learning.
Right away, we noticed our students enthusiasm for learning, Rayburn recalls. When they were writing with their iBook laptops, they could check a source very quickly. Plus, they didnt have to go through all of the mechanical frustration that they used to feel in the traditional learning environment their hands could keep up with their minds.
With their iBook laptops, our students have found that having information at their fingertips and not having to go back, rewrite, and edit endlessly really taps their curiosity for learning, Rayburn adds. Learning isnt a chore anymore! And, even our shyest, most introspective students can communicate effusively and share information via email on their iBooks.
Mac OS X Features and iLife Ideal for Students
Baugh, who is both an alumnus of Currey Ingram and a former faculty member, has a keen appreciation for the challenges his students face. He cites multiple ways in which the iBook laptops benefit students who learn differently.
