Apple 1 to 1 Empowers Unique Learners

Profiles in Success: Currey Ingram Academy

“We see a lot of correlation between organization and students’ performance,” says Baugh. “Previously, students’ papers were disorganized in their binders, and they’d have a hard time keeping track of their assignments. With our Apple servers, all of the students’ work is backed up in one central location where they can easily find it. Also, PowerSchool has been wonderful because students can go online anytime and check their progress in their classes. PowerSchool helps them clearly understand the correlation between doing their assignments and their homework, and their overall performance.”

“Being able to track their grades with PowerSchool is a very positive thing,” Rayburn concurs. “That immediate feedback is extremely important to them, and helps make them much more independent learners.”

“With the help of the iBook laptops, not only have we made very individualized learning possible, we’re making sure our students are ready for [the] future.”

Students Benefit from Online, Personalized Assessments

One of the biggest benefits of the iBook laptops is their ability to assist with academic assessment. Along with taking traditional standardized tests, Currey Ingram students complete online exams using their iBook laptops and such applications as Academic Progress and Blackboard. For students who process information in unique ways, says Baugh, this model is ideal.

“When a student answers a question correctly, the test presents a more difficult problem,” he explains. “If the student misses the question, the system lowers the skill-level a bit. And, if a student needs additional modifications — such as help typing an essay — the online exams help with that as well. In this way, every test is personalized according to the student’s needs and strengths.”

“Seeing how our students have become engaged by 1 to 1 learning, we’ve realized that it’s the trend of the future,” concludes Rayburn. “We know we can’t possibly send out a group of students who don’t have an extremely strong technology background. With the help of the iBook laptops, not only have we made very individualized learning possible, we’re making sure our students are ready for that future.”
