Creativity Sets Sail with Back-End Apple Systems

Profiles in Success: Full Sail Real World Education

PowerBook Laptops Easily Manage Multiple Programs

Tim Gregory is director of Full Sail’s faculty development program. His students also have benefited from the addition of Apple technologies, including wireless PowerBook laptops that have replaced their old Acer Tablet PCs. The new Apple systems have greatly reduced students’ frustration level, Gregory says.

“The PowerBook laptops, with their full-sized keyboard, integrated CD/DVD drive, fluid Tiger interface, and overall ease of use, have significantly shortened the learning curve,” Gregory reveals. “Plus, students can run more programs at the same time without crashes. Our instructors have reported an improvement in students’ presentations and presentation skills, because they can integrate more applications and create better visuals with Keynote.”

Gregory says the PowerBook laptops deliver still more benefits: Students can easily download, store, and retrieve graphics-intensive slides containing class notes, and shift between the slides and relevant websites. Also, students can share information files with their instructors by using portable USB drives, while multiple “hot” keys make note taking much faster and more efficient. Finally, students report that they can log onto Full Sail’s wireless network much more easily than with their Acer systems.

Apple: The Professionals’ Choice

Full Sail graduates can be found in many of the nation’s top film/television production houses, on tour with major pop stars, and busily creating the next top-selling computer game. Thanks to their immersion in Apple technologies, all Full Sail students are well prepared for successful careers in entertainment.

“We know that our students need to be conversant with PCs, because many of the business folks still use them,” Galbreath concludes. “But everything — digital content, games, websites, and so forth — is being created on the Mac. Apple’s hardware is fast and affordable, and their software is both easy to use and very, very powerful. Thanks to Apple, no one has to be a techno-nerd to do really cool work anymore.”
