Contests and Prizes
Rewards for showing what you can do.
Contests that showcase your talents
Five podcasts in the Set to Screen series will be more than just behind the scenes looks at the production process. Once you’ve seen how things are done, we want you to show us what you can do. After the release of the podcasts that cover on-set still photography, design, costume design, music composition, and editing, you will have three weeks to complete the contest tasks and post your work to the Apple Student Gallery.
The Costume Design Contest
You’ve watched the podcast and learned about Catherine Martin’s process and how a character’s costume can amplify what is going on inside. Now it’s your turn to design a historically accurate costume for Nicole Kidman’s character, Lady Sarah Ashley. Download the photo composite of Nicole Kidman on set, and design a costume that Lady Sarah Ashley would wear. Your final submission should be the same photo composite with your design replacing the costume in the picture. While your submission will likely not be a photo, we recommend using color so that the judges can see a fully realized design. You should use a digital compositing tool like Adobe Photoshop to “dress” Lady Sarah Ashley in the photo.
You have until midnight Eastern time (9:00 p.m. Pacific) on June 18, 2008, to post your entry to the Apple Student Gallery. Entries will be judged by employees of Apple, 20th Century Fox, and Bazmark Inc.
“Editing is not simply one aspect: it’s the aspect.”
– Orson Welles
If your editing project is chosen by Baz as the best, he will plan your trip for two to Australia and take you along on the U.S. promotional tour for the film. Your winning project will also be featured on the DVD release of Australia.
