The legal stuff that you should read.

The Set to Screen series contests are open to all students. There is no fee to enter the contests. Here’s how to enter the Set to Screen Series Contest:

  • To be eligible to win, Apple Inc. must receive all entries by Midnight EST, on the deadline specified for each contest.
  • Entries must be resized so they are no more than 1000 pixels in height or width, whichever is larger.
  • Submitted images must be at 100 DPI or less.
  • Submitted images must be in jpeg format and have a file name ending .jpg or .jpeg.
  • Entries must be made on a Macintosh computer.
  • Submissions must comply with the current assignment, as posted on the Set to Screen website.
  • All accepted entires will be showcased online.
  • Only one entry per contestant per contest.

Official Rules:

Eligibility. The contest is open to all students in the US attending an accredited high school, college or university and who have access to a Macintosh computer. If the student is not 18 years of age or older at the time of entry, the student must authorize someone over the age of 18 to post the submission. The contest is not open to employees of Apple Inc, 20th Century Fox, Lunchbox Lessons LLC and Bazmark Inc. or their immediate families. In order to win the Grand Prize, entrants (and Grand Prize winner’s guest) must possess valid travel documents that allow for travel from the United States to Australia within the prize period.

Originality. Only original works made specifically for this contest in conjunction with the photographs provided by James Fisher are eligible to win. Entrants may not post or screen the completed entry on another website or publish the entry in any other publication until Apple Inc. and 20th Century Fox announce the winners.

No Purchase Necessary to Enter or Win. Entrants are not required to purchase any product or service in order to enter the contest.

How to Enter. There is no fee to enter the contest. To enter, each entrant must:

Step 2. Fill out and submit the online form located at the Apple Student Gallery, found at edcommunity.apple.com/settoscreen.

Submissions will be reviewed for conformity with these Official Rules and Guidelines before being accepted as entries in the contest.

Submission Requirements. Each entrant must either own all rights to the photos used in the submission or be authorized by the owner to submit entries. All photos must be the original work of the entrants and must not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity. If the photos contain any material or elements that are not owned by the entrant or that are subject to the rights of third parties, the entrant is responsible for obtaining, prior to submission of the entry, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit use and exploitation of the entry by Apple Inc. and 20th Century Fox in the manner set forth in these Official Rules. This is a contest promoting creative design, photography and expression. Acceptable submissions must:

  • Not make unauthorized use of copyrighted property.
  • Not exploit children or animals.
  • Be suitable for viewing by adults and children, and may not contain any material that Apple Inc. or 20th Century Fox, in their sole discretion, deem offensive or include violence, nudity or sexual content.
  • Be sized to no more than 1000 pixels in height or width, whichever is larger.
  • Be at 100 DPI or less.
  • Be in jpeg format and have a file name ending .jpg or .jpeg.
  • Be made on a Macintosh computer.
  • Comply with each specific contest assignment, as posted on the Set to Screen website.

Right to Display Submissions. By entering the contest, each entrant grants Apple Inc. and 20th Century Fox permission to make available, display, and otherwise distribute winners’ names and submissions in all media (including, without limitation, at the Apple Inc. Set to Screen Student Gallery) in perpetuity without compensation. Except where legally prohibited, submission of an entry into this contest constitutes permission for Apple Inc. and 20th Century Fox to use the entrants’ names, photograph, likeness, voice, school, address (city and state) and testimonials, in printed, broadcast media or new media, in perpetuity, in any manner they deem appropriate in connection with the dissemination, display, or promotion of the submitted entries or to publicize this contest, without compensation.

Contest Submission Deadlines. Entrants each may enter only one entry in each contest. To be eligible to win, Apple Inc. must receive all entries by Midnight EST, on the deadline specified for each contest. Once entrants submit their entry, Apple will not accept substitutions or new versions. Apple Inc. and 20th Century Fox are not responsible for any lost, stolen or undelivered entries, or any entries not received within the applicable contest periods mentioned above. Apple Inc. and 20th Century Fox reserve the right (a) to suspend or cancel the contest in their sole discretion if a computer virus, bug or other technical problem corrupts the administration or security of the contest, and (b) to select winners from among all eligible entries received prior to the cancellation.

Winner Selection and Prizes. Apple Inc. and 20th Century Fox will choose the winning entry from the eligible entries, and award prizes as follows:

The entry chosen as the best overall (“Grand Prize”) by employees of Apple, Inc, 20th Century Fox and Bazmark, Inc., will receive a trip for two to Australia, including airfare, hotel stay (single room, double occupancy at a hotel of 20th Century Fox and Apple, Inc.'s choice) and $1,000 (one thousand U.S. dollars) spending money The total value of the Grand Prize is approximately $8,000. Guest of Grand Prize winner must be over 18, unless guest is the child/ward of Grand Prize winner.

Employees of Apple, Inc, 20th Century Fox and Bazmark, Inc., will choose the top ten entries from high school students and the top 10 entires from college students. Those 20 winners will win the following:

  • 1st Prize:
    MacBook Pro, valued at $2499 — one high school winner, one college winner
  • 2nd Prize:
    iPod Touch, valued at $399 — two high school winners, two college winners
  • 3rd Prize:
    iPod Nano, valued at $199 — two high school winners, two college winners
  • 4th Prize:
    iPod Shuffle, valued at $49 — five high school winners, five college winners

In addition to the prizes listed above, all winners will receive a copy of Apple Aperture software, valued at $199. Apple Inc. and 20th Century Fox reserve the right to award prizes of equivalent or greater value if the prizes listed above are not available for any reason.

The total value of all prizes in Contest is $19,860.

Judging Criteria. The judges will select the finalists and winners based on the entries technical quality, creativity, and originality. The decisions are at the complete discretion of the judges, and all decisions are final.

Winner Notification. Apple Inc. and 20th Century Fox will announce the winners’ names on June 10, 2008. The winners will be notified by e-mail, phone or first-class mail within five business days of winning. Winners must respond to the notification within five days after receiving it. Apple Inc.’s failure to receive a response within the time permitted or the winner’s ineligibility will result in a forfeiture of the prize. Each winning entrant must complete an affidavit of eligibility to be awarded a prize. If a prize is forfeited, the judges will select an alternate winner, whose award also will be subject to this paragraph’s requirements.

Miscellaneous. By participating in this contest, entrants agree to be bound by these rules and by the decisions of Apple and 20th Century Fox, which are final in all matters relating to this contest. Prizes are nontransferable. Apple Inc. and 20th Century Fox will make arrangements for the fulfillment of all prizes, but by entering this Contest you acknowledge and agree that Apple and 20th Century Fox assume no responsibility or liability for losses or injuries of any kind resulting from participation in Contest, acceptance/possession and/or use/misuse of prize(s), or any injury or damage to an entrant’s or third person’s computer and/or its contents, related to or resulting from Contest. The Grand Prize winner must complete all travel by one year from the date of prize notification. Other travel conditions and restrictions may apply*. Receipt of any prize is conditioned upon compliance with any and all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations. The contest is void where prohibited or by law or to the extent that Apple Inc. and 20th Century Fox are restricted by law against awarding any prize. Prize winners will be solely responsible for payment of all federal, state and local taxes.
