CDs It’s February 22. A great day to burn CDs.

Music CDs to take for a drive—made with iTunes,* of course. Data CDs, so you don’t have to worry about misplacing important documents. CDs with all your digital photographs. And while you’re in a burning frenzy, don’t forget to put together a collection of the best Desktop Movies you’ve created, saving them to disc as QuickTime movies.

Yes, February 22 is a great day to burn CDs, especially since you can now burn them using the CD-RW drives in the new Power Mac G4 Cube and iMac computers announced today at Macworld Tokyo.

Work of Art

Power Mac G4 Cube How do you improve a computer that Walter Mossberg (Wall Street Journal) calls “the most gorgeous personal computer I’ve ever seen or used” or that Bob LeVitus (Houston Chronicle) considers “one of the most amazing pieces of engineering Apple’s ever produced”?

By making the Power Mac G4 Cube even more irresistible, of course.

For example, we added a slot-loading CD-RW drive as standard equipment and we’re preloading iTunes, so now you’ve got everything you need to mix your own kind of music. And take it with you.

We’re including more memory—128MB—in every G4 Cube, and if you’d like even more, you can order your Cube from the Apple Store with up to 1.5GB of RAM.

Got a massive film project on the horizon? We’re offering more storage options at the Apple Store. Those of you using iMovie (included) or Final Cut Pro (optional) to create lots of Desktop Movies can now outfit your G4 Cube with a 60GB hard drive.

And you’ll find a new option for graphic cards: the NVIDIA GeForce2 MX. That’s right, now you can order a G4 Cube with one of three graphics cards: the NVIDIA GeForce2 MX, ATI RAGE 128 Pro, or ATI RADEON.

Best of all—the new Power Mac G4 Cube starts at just $1599 and can be ordered at the Apple Store today.

A Highly Entertaining Family

iMac: Flower Power Rock star. Movie director. Web designer. Game player. Surfer extraordinaire.

Whichever role you fancy, you can play on the new family of iMac computers just announced at Macworld Tokyo.

They’re fast, all right—sporting PowerPC G3 processors running at 400, 500, and 600 MHz. They offer loads of storage—drives up to 40GB, in fact—and come with up to 128MB of RAM (expandable to 1GB). Starting at just $899, every iMac is now AirPort ready and boasts two FireWire ports. And, yes, iMac is a colorful family, with models decked out in Indigo, Graphite, and two new attractive “colors”—Blue Dalmatian and Flower Power.

Each new iMac also comes with an impressive collection of software, including iTools (which offers you your own email address, online storage area, and tools to build your own website), iTunes (so you can put your personal spin on music), and iMovie (letting you express your directorial talents). And there are other software goodies besides these.

Wondering if iMac now comes with a CD-RW drive? The answer is a resounding YES. Both the 500- and 600-MHz models come with a CD-RW drive. In fact, you’ll find two blank CD-R discs in the box to get you started.

SuperDrive Shipping

Good news.

We’ve begun shipping the fastest and most powerful Mac in history and the industry’s first complete solution for CD and DVD authoring—the 733 MHz Power Mac G4 with SuperDrive.

While the PowerPC G4 with Velocity Engine accounts for the speed of the new Power Mac G4, it’s the SuperDrive and iDVD software that set it above any other computer available today.

An industry first, the SuperDrive is a combination CD-RW/DVD-R drive that lets you burn audio CDs with iTunes, rewritable data CDs (using the included Disc Burner software), and DVD-Video discs that can be played in most consumer DVD players.

Creating DVD-Video discs used to be expensive and arduous, a task virtually impossible to achieve on a desktop computer. But now, with the new SuperDrive and iDVD software, included with each system, you can perform DVD authoring with drag-and-drop simplicity.

iTunes 1.1 Available

Over 750,000 of you have already downloaded iTunes* and learned how much fun it is to manage digital music the Macintosh way.

Those of you who have a Mac with a built-in CD-RW drive can also burn audio CDs more easily than ever before.

And now, with the release of iTunes 1.1, many of you with an external CD-RW drive attached to your Mac can also get in on the burning action. NVIDIA GeForce3

Creating 3D graphics? Playing 3D games? Looking for the ultimate animation, multimedia, or gaming experience?

Then you’ll be interested in an announcement Steve Jobs made this morning at the Macworld Expo in Tokyo. In March, Apple and NVIDIA will be making a new choice available to those who purchase a Power Mac G4 computer: the NVIDIA GeForce3 graphics card. And it will be available for the Mac first.

Sporting the most advanced graphics processing chip ever, the NVIDIA GeForce3 delivers remarkable performance that allows the Mac to display even the most complex scenes with stunning realism. Now you’ll be able to see the dimples on golf balls and the minute details on characters’ faces. You’ll really be fully immersed in the experience.

And in April, we expect to offer the card as a kit, allowing anyone who previously purchased a Power Mac G4 to order and install the NVIDIA GeForce3 and take advantage of its amazing capabilities.

See a recap of the Academy Awards nominations—movies, actors, actresses, directors and other awards categories—with links to their movie trailers.   After 64 days and 1,300 miles of ice-sailing, skiing and endless ice, Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen have just pulled their 250-pound sleds into Amundsen Scott Station at the South Pole.
And the Envelope, Please...   PowerBook at the South Pole
“This laptop rocks,” writes Julio Ojeda-Zapata in the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “Don’t even think about buying a Windows laptop until you’ve kicked the tires on this metallic Mac. Then do as you please, but expect pangs of regret if you go with a pedestrian PC portable.”   "I like to listen to music while I work," writes Bob LeVitus in the Houston Chronicle. "I don't like to spend a lot of time searching through CDs on my shelves and changing discs. I don't usually like every single cut on a CD ... iTunes resolves all these issues for me, and does it in a way that's elegant and appealing. I find myself enjoying this program almost all day, almost every day."
