Diving for DV

On a typical day, video producer Steffan Schulz gets in over his head, swimming among and filming sharks, huge manta rays, and other mysterious inhabitants of the deep. And when he’s back above the surface, he needs a digital video editing solution that’s easier to manage than the unpredictable creatures he’s been filming.

That’s why he’s turned to the premiere solution for mobile video editors and producers: the PowerBook G4 and Final Cut Pro.

“As a producer, I want to create, not configure. The Mac allows me that freedom in a compact, extremely powerful and robust system,” says Schulz in the recent article, “Diving for DV.” And as for Final Cut Pro: “the compositing and graphical capabilities within the program eliminate the need for other applications.” “Final Cut Pro,” Schulz concludes, “has the feature set of a system that used to cost ten times the amount.”

If only swimming with the sharks were as easy.

Two Burning Desires. One Low Price.

This summer, you can satisfy two burning desires for the price of one.

Just buy a light-but-powerful Titanium PowerBook G4 between June 15 and September 3, and you’ll get a free VST CD/RW drive (directly from VST via a mail-in fulfillment program).1

Imagine the possibilities: Hit the road and take your mobile office, design studio, and digital music library with you. Watch DVD movies or play games in your spare time. Use iTunes to create your own favorite mixes, then burn the playlist to an audio CD for your car or home stereo. Or back up all those important files you’ve been creating with easy drag-and-drop CD burning.

With your PowerBook’s long battery life and the self-powered CD/RW drive, you won’t need to be anywhere near a power outlet. So take your office to the beach or the woods and relax this summer.

An Animated Team

Who says you can’t teach an old animator new tricks?

Take Art Leonardi. He’s spent 40+ years creating Pink Panther and Bugs Bunny cartoons the old-fashioned way—by hand, with a team of artists slaving over the cels. But Leonardi recently traded in his traditional tools, and now he’s using a Mac, a mouse, and a revolutionary new animation product—Toon Boom Studio—for all his animation needs.

“I’m a walking, one-man studio,” he says. “I’m the controlling agent. I control the music, the sound effects, the design, the color, everything.”

With Toon Boom Studio and his Mac, Leonardi can make animated films more quickly, more easily, and less expensively than he ever could before.

“In less than a school year,” writes Charles Haddad in BusinessWeek Online, “Apple has clawed its way back to the top of the bell tower in the all-important education market...it counterattacked by offering schools a compelling idea: Let us build a wireless network of portable computers that when tapped into the Internet, will not only make teaching more powerful but will delight children as well. This network lets students post homework online and administrators automate everything from progress reports to attendance records.”
