“DVD Studio Pro 2 is simply a must buy for anybody working in the DVD medium,” says David Nagel of Creative Mac.

Watching a pro hockey game from a skybox seat is a thrill, no doubt about it. But it’s hard to see all the action of this fast-moving game from a distance.

Working with his collegues, Bradley Walker and Dan Castagnoli, Chris Monicatti created a QuickTime-based system to deliver high-definition video and still images to guests in the executive suites of St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center as they watch their beloved Minnesota Wild compete in the rink.

“QuickTime provides us with the most robust and extensible architecture for our environment,” says Castagnoli. “We’re able to capture what’s happening on the ice in a way that most people never see,” adds Monicatti — capturing, in fact, details as amazing as a team’s logo on a puck, frozen in mid-air.

In the late 1990s, Michael Lee moved to the U.S. from his native Australia, hoping to become a rock star, and it looks like he’s gotten his wish. In 2001 he formed The Rising, and the band’s debut CD, “Future Unknown,” hits stores on September 9.

On July 11, The Rising performed live at the new Apple Store in Santa Monica, California, to help celebrate its grand opening. Experience Lee’s powerful vocals in footage shot at this event, featuring four songs from the band’s upcoming album. And don’t miss the music video for “Cradle,” The Rising’s first single.

American Splendor A neurotic Cleveland file clerk makes an unlikely comic book hero. But for 25 years, Harvey Pekar has immortalized his life as an ordinary, self-absorbed curmudgeonly schlub in his popular underground comic book, “American Splendor.” The eccentric Pekar is the subject of a witty and offbeat biopic that captured the Grand Jury prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. “American Splendor” stars Paul Giamatti and Hope Davis, and is currently playing in select theaters.
Thirteen It can be agonizing to turn 13 in Los Angeles, especially when the pressure to grow up is set on fast-forward by a wild and self-destructive new best friend. “Thirteen” is the story of Tracy, who soon finds herself in over her head and at loggerheads with her single-parent mom in an age-old struggle for identity and independence.
