Since its launch in April, iTunes 4 has been satisfying the musical cravings of Mac users with the hundreds of thousands of songs available on the online music store.

And now Apple would like to welcome Windows users to the party.

Introducing iTunes 4.1 — the world's best digital jukebox, featuring the second generation of the iTunes Music Store. Available now as a free download for both Mac and Windows.

With more music than ever before — over 400,000 songs by the end of October — from all five of the major US music companies and over 200 independent labels, iTunes brings you an online music store experience like no other. Fast and reliable downloads. Pristine sound quality. Exclusive tracks. Gorgeous QuickTime videos. Celebrity playlists. You can even purchase gift certificates and create allowance accounts for your kids.

There’s much more to tell. And you can hear it from Apple CEO Steve Jobs himself in this QuickTime video of the music event recently held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Be sure to watch till the end to catch a special solo performance by Sarah McLachlan, as well as a few other surprises.

And learn more about iTunes 4.1 by visiting the Apple website.

Along with extensive support for 3GPP and a host of performance improvements, QuickTime 6.4 offers a newly enhanced AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) audio codec.

The songs you purchase from the iTunes Music Store owe their clarity and dynamic range to this core technology in QuickTime 6.4. In fact, AAC — the audio component of the MPEG-4 standard — delivers sound rivaling that of uncompressed CD audio, while compressing files more efficiently than the older MP3 format.

And AAC is not just limited to the songs you download from the iTunes Music Store. Thanks to QuickTime 6.4, you can also import the songs on your CDs into iTunes in the AAC format.

Visit our website to download QuickTime 6.4 for Mac or Windows. Windows users should note that QuickTime 6.4 is automatically installed with iTunes 4.1.
We’ve also released a new version of the MPEG-2 Playback Component, required for compatibility with QuickTime 6.4 on Mac OS X. Visit our website for instructions on how to obtain the update.

What’s the perfect companion to the new iTunes 4.1 for Mac and Windows?

iPod, of course.

Now with iPod Sofware 2.1 Update and iTunes 4.1, not only can you create On-The-Go playlists on your iPod but you can sync them back to iTunes when you return to your computer. The software update also lets you use your iPod for on-the-go photo storage with the new Belkin Photo Card Reader. If you attach the new Belkin Voice Recorder, your iPod even turns into a handy recording device.1

The good news is enough to make you dance around the room. Just as the folks are doing in two colorful new ads for iPod. For your dancing pleasure, the Black Eyed Peas pluck “Hey Mama” out of their iPod, and Jet offers up “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” both available at the iTunes Music Store.

1iPod Software 2.1 Update supports only iPods with a dock connector.
