Reviewing the iPod mini for the Washington Times, Mark Kellner writes, ”In this new, smaller size, it is easy to imagine one rediscovering the joy of the digital music player all over again.”

Shake continues Apple’s Oscar winning streak for the seventh consecutive year. The software played a crucial role in making “Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” the film that earned an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

“For me, the suite [iLife ’04] would be a bargain even at twice the price,” writes Matthew Fordahl for the Associate Press. “Its newest addition is an addictive music-creation program. Called GarageBand, it is simple enough for those of us who’ve never touched a keyboard or strummed a guitar yet advanced enough to appeal to a polished practitioner.”

Scrubs The ambitious editors of NBC hit comedy series “Scrubs” know the best solution for editing a top-ten network show: Final Cut Pro and QuickTime. This solution gives the editing crew the ability to easily add special effects such as sped-up action, pop-ups to fantasies or flashbacks, voice-overs and more. “We push deadlines to the nth, nth, nth degree,” editor Rick Blue says. “It would be difficult to do without this type of technology.” In addition to lowering production costs, the technology also allows the editors more flexibility to work off-site on their own schedule.
British Pathe The British Pathe archive consists of 3,500 hours of historical videos and more than 12 million still photographs documenting the past 75 years, including footage of the Titanic, the D-Day Landings and the Beatles. Using Macs and Xserves, engineers are encoding all the video content into QuickTime files for the British Pathe archive web site, where the public can purchase video clips for personal or licensed commercial use.

The Girl Next Door Sheltered high-school outcast Matthew Kidman (Emile Hirsch, “Emperor’s Club”) doesn’t know what he is in for when the beautiful girl next door, Danielle (Elisha Cuthbert, “Old School”), catches his peeping eyes on her as she undresses. As it turns out, Danielle isn’t quite the stereotypical wholesome girl next door; she’s actually a porn star considering a career change. Will there be romantic love? Dangerous car chases with the police? Daring encounters with porn producers? Comical episodes of teen life? You’ll have to find out what happens when “The Girl Next Door” opens in theaters March 12.
