What do you get when you combine Ben Folds and William Shatner? “Has Been,” Shatner’s surprisingly pop-driven, lyrically potent collection of songs written by the duo.

Listen to 11 tracks from the album, including “That’s Me Trying,” co-written by author Nick Hornby (”High Fidelity,” “About a Boy”). The song tells the heartbreaking story of an absent father’s desperate attempt at building a relationship with his daughter long after it’s too late.

You can buy “Has Been” at the iTunes Music Store.

The Zombies

Listen to all 11 tracks from “As Far As I Can See...

The Donnas

“You’re gonna fall behind me / You’re gonna cry and beg for mercy / ‘Cause you’re not ready, baby / You got nothing on me”

Unicorns, hard-rock, neon galactic rainbows, zodiac signs and Farrah Fawcett hair-styles. That combination could only translate into one thing — the video for the Donnas’ new single, “Fall Behind Me,” available at the iTunes Music Store. This all-female quartet from Palo Alto certainly knows how to rock.

Manhattan Transfer

Vocalists Cheryl Bentyne, Tim Hauser, Alan Paul and Janis Siegel form the Grammy Award-winning Manhattan Transfer. Preview the jazz quartet’s latest album, “Vibrate,” a fusion of progressive jazz, Latin, world and pop music. You’ll hear songs penned by Rufus Wainwright and even a Gershwin song (”Embraceable You”).

The iTunes Music Store offers 17 albums from the Manhattan Transfer.

You can preview the original hits from Luther Vandross at the iTunes Music Store, too.

e.s.t.

If you like your jazz spiced up with a little contemporary groove, you shouldn’t miss the new album by e.s.t, “Seven Days of Falling.” Preview the album, which you can also find at the iTunes Music Store.

Bowling for Soup

The ‘80s called and they want soccer mom Debbie back. Take a trip down memory lane in Bowling For Soup’s video “1985” (a great year, by the way).

At the iTunes Music Store you can hear more songs from “A Hangover You Don’t Deserve,” Bowling For Soup’s latest album.

Alcazar

Following in the dance-steps of ABBA, Alcazar — Sweden’s number-one dance act — just released its newest single, “This is the World We Live In,” featuring a loop from Diana Ross’ “Upside Down.” Check out Alcazar’s moves in the stylish video for the single — you’ll see why the foursome holds a firm spot on the European Top 40 charts.

Download Alcazar’s latest album, “Alcazarized,” and “This is the World We Live In” EP at the iTunes Music Store.

Ingram Hill

If “Southern Pop” existed as a musical genre, Tennessee band Ingram Hill would own it. Lead singer Justin Moore calls the band’s music “pop rock with a Southern twist.”

Check out Ingram Hill’s video for the warmly-sung single “Will I Ever Make It Home.” Discover more music from the group’s new album, “June’s Picture Show,” at the iTunes Music Store.

West Coast All Stars

“I’m giving him something he can feel / To let him know this love is real”

Jeremy Coon
Green filmmaker strikes gold
Jeremy Coon isn’t the only green filmmaker to strike Hollywood gold. But as both producer and editor of “Napoleon Dynamite,” the indie sleeper about a geeky teen from Idaho, he proved his talent on two fronts.

And on the opening day of the 2004 Sundance Film Festival Coon sold the film, his first feature, to Fox Searchlight Pictures for $3.2 million. Not bad for a 25-year-old fresh out of school.

“Napoleon Dynamite” had its genesis in the late-night dreams Coon shared with Jared Hess, his pal at Brigham Young University film school. At the student facility where both worked, Hess was in charge of production and Coon managed post-production.

“That was the sweetest job,” says Coon with a laugh. “There was a lull when not many students were making films, so we hung out and talked. Jared had this idea for a feature and I said, ‘You write it and I’ll get the money.’”

Read how Coon cut “Napoleon Dynamite” using an innovative QuickTime workflow.
