In Japan, different product take-back services are provided for businesses and individual consumers.

These services are handled by the Apple Recycle Center, which can be reached at:

For businesses, the recycling process is as follows:

  • Ship used Apple displays and computers to the Apple Recycle Center.
  • Pay for service when the Apple Recycle Center sends a bill.

For consumers, the recycling process is as follows:

  • Call the Apple Recycle Call Center to find out if the recycling cost must be paid in advance. This depends on the type of product to be recycled.
  • The Apple Recycle Center will send a pre-printed shipping label.
  • Using this label, package the equipment for shipping.
  • Contact one of 20,000 post offices in Japan, which will pick up the package and deliver it to the Apple Recycle Center

Note that computers sold after October 1, 2003, come with a "PC Recycle Label," which covers the recycling cost. Consumers with these labels need not call the Apple Recycle Center before shipping their equipment. They simply attach the label to the package and contact the post office for pick-up.
