Apple Recycling Program Terms and Conditions

This offer requires the purchase of an Apple computer and/or Apple Cinema display monitor. Purchase must be made at an Apple Retail Store, through Apple Telesales, or at the Apple Online Store. Free recycling is not available at Apple Online Stores that serve Resellers or Institutions. Purchases must be made within the 48 contiguous United States or the District of Columbia. Purchases made in Alaska and Hawaii are not eligible.

Apple Retails Stores will not accept Free Recycling of computers, monitors, or peripherals.

Eligibility and qualifications

  • Apple Free Recycling is offered to individual purchasers, at the Apple Store for Education, and small business customers. This offer is not valid for institutions, corporations, and enterprise customers. Apple offers a volume recycling service for institutions, corporations, and enterprise customers through Apple Corporate Recycling.   • Free recycling is available with qualifying purchases of new or Apple-certified refurbished computers and/or monitors. This offer is not valid with the purchase of used equipment. Apple will accept for recycling computers, monitors, and peripherals from any manufacturer, except products contaminated or suspected of being contaminated with chemicals, biological agents, or other substances not integral to the original new equipment or otherwise associated with normal office or household environments. Apple will not accept hazardous waste or batteries that are not an integral part of the system being recycling, UPS systems, CRTs that have been removed from their cases, or CRTs that are cracked or broken.
  • A California environmental fee will be charged based on the products that include displays measuring greater than four inches diagonally. Learn more.
  • Qualified purchasers are eligible to recycle one computer, one monitor, and peripheral computer equipment with each qualifying purchase transaction. Purchasers should package CPUs and monitors in separate boxes. Each box must weigh less than 70 lbs, limit two boxes.
  • Qualified purchasers will receive an email with two Shipping Authorization Numbers (FedEx RMA Numbers) and barcodes. One number may be used for each package. This number entitles the purchaser to free shipping of the package to the Apple Recycling Center. Packages must be delivered to a FedEx location. FedEx drop boxes are not eligible. Numbers must be used within 90 days of receipt. Complete step-by-step instructions are provided in the email.
  • Products must be packed and shipped in accordance with Apple’s instructions including, but not limited to, instructions regarding weight limitations and quantity and types of items to be recycled. Notice regarding data

Apple has no responsibility for the loss or confidentiality of customer data on recycled equipment. Before shipping equipment, the customer should:

  • Delete data on the hard-disk drives and any other storage devices in the products.
  • Back up or transfer any data prior to deletion.
  • Remove any removable media, such as diskettes, CDs, or PC Cards.

Once the hardware has been shipped, Apple cannot return it to the sender. Participation in this program constitutes a relinquishment of all rights to and in the hardware and other computer materials sent to Apple.

Limitation of liability

Apple provides this service as an accommodation and accepts no liability to any person for any services performed in connection with the recycling offered in these terms, and specifically disclaims liability for lost profits, loss of business or other consequential, special, indirect, or punitive damages, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Apple is not responsible for any printing errors. Apple reserves the right to change, without notice, the Terms and Conditions or end or modify the offer at any time.
