The iPad Air smart case is durable but as soon as you get it dirty you've ruined it. I do like my smart case as it gives my iPad a conspicuous feel but mine is dirty and it looks horrible! The case is very good at protecting my iPad though as I dropped it onto a stone floor but the casing of the iPad was still intact afterwards. I have to say that is brilliant if you are on the train and are watching a film to prop it up. I would say it is worth the money but maybe it could somehow get less dirty.

    Impossible to keep clean!!!

    • Written by from Chalfont St Peter

Why drop the plastic version? .. I don't have a problem with the design except that once it gets dirty don't even think of cleaning it... You can't!
Also ...TOO expensive for what it is.

Gives it the million-dollar look and feel

    • Written by from STONEHOUSE

I used to make a case for not covering up my iPad at all; why spend so much on a thing of beauty only to cover it up? (I still rejoice in my iPhone's naked form). But then I reasoned that Apple had got the Air down to such a sylph-like form, it could take a case without sacrificing too much of its lightness and compactness. It was the right decision. This case gives the iPad Air the million-dollar look and feel. Wow, it's a real head-turner and it just feels gorgeous. It adds further glamour to a thing that is already a beautiful. It is also breathtaking in its precision and the way it grips the device. How they achieve this precision with a material like leather is a mystery to me, but we are talking about a piece of Apple design here. It IS quite difficult to take off, but then you never want to take it off (if you do, you prize off two corners; it just takes a little practice and causes no wear or tear whatsoever). The only aspect that falls a few percentage points below total perfection is the segment of folding cover nearest the spine, which doesn't quite lie down flush, but it's hardly noticeable. It's the trade-off for having the leather finish continued right through the product. They could have put in an aluminium hinge, but that would have detracted from the luxury feel. I can't understand why this case has attracted some negative reviews. I think it's fantastic; expensive, yes - you get what you pay for. Oh, and btw, read "Brown" with a very large dose of salt. The colour is a very bright tan; ginger might be a more accurate description. I imagine the other colours will look just as stunning.

    Looks good but too heavy

    • Written by from London

I bought an iPad Air and a Smart Case for my partner for Xmas. The iPad Air itself is wonderfully light, so it's disappointing that the only case that seems to be available from Apple for it is so heavy, which seems a bit self-defeating. It looks good and it's helpful that it can be used as a stand etc, but my challenge to Apple is to bring out a version which offers the same level of protection but is a whole lot lighter.

    Not worth the money

    • Written by from Hull

It protects the iPad front and back. In terms of folding over and raising the iPad to a comfortable reading/working position it doesn't work. The three panels don't work in the same way as four panels did. The fact that it is twice the price adds insult to injury quite frankly!

    Pretty good

    • Written by from Kangasala

I've been using my smart case for a few months every day now. At home, in my bag together with an 11" Air on the way to work and back etc. No problems whatsoever so far.

The smart case replaced my smart cover since it offers a bit more protection. Some people have been saying that the case is too flimsy, but I have not seen that problem. Might be because I don't use the iPad "standing up". The smart cover is a bit more sturdier, but no big difference in my point of view.

    Expensive but worth it

    • Written by from Billericay

Bought this case after having a cheaper, but not bad, case for my iPad2 and always wished I had purchased the apple case. Looked at these reviews afterwards as I was having the same trouble with the case not standing up. Then I looked at the pictures and realised I was doing it wrong. When used correctly the case holds the iPad securely in both positions. Feels good to the touch and is a quality product. Typed this review while the iPad was in the upright position without any problems. Worth the extra money.

    Very disappointed

    • Written by from Harrow

I decided to upgrade my iPad 2 to iPad air, thought I better purchase the Smart Cover as well, but this time wanted one that covered the whole tablet, as my iPad 2 cover only covered half and I brought a separate back for it. Paid £65.00 for the new Smart Cover, which I consider very expensive, and only wish I had read the reviews before purchasing as it keeps falling back. Definitely not fit for purpose. Apple did you not test this product before releasing? Very very disappointed in this product (and if I'm honest the iPad air is not as good as I thought it would be, and I did read the reviews for the iPad air.) Will be buying a much cheaper cover and sending this one back!

    IPad Air Smart case

    • Written by from St Austell

Although this is a premium priced product, the product is far from premium quality. The best this will ever looks, is in the box, before use.

The rear of the case fits very snugly, however, the front cover is so thin that when closed leaves a gap at the rear to allow dust,
and the first fold rests on the screen, leaving a mark. This can easily be removed with a lint free cloth, but clearly a poor design.

I realised after a couple of days that it was not very resilient and that it was already starting to look grubby. I have tried using a good leather
cleaner which usually gives very good results, however, not on this leather.

The iPad Air is a great tablet, but it is unfortunate that Apple cannot produce a quality case. I wish now I had returned it immediately as it is poor value and will need to be replaced at some time in the future.

Clearly I am disappointed and in my opinion a very poor buy. I hope that Apple can improve these in the future as it does little for the tag of a premium product, and will make me think very carefully when viewing Apple products on the future.

Beautiful case at first, but won't last long

    • Written by from Dublin

I have been using the smart case for a month. Despite what other people may have said, it does securely support the ipad in both typing and upright modes. At first I thought the 3 panel design didn't work properly, but as long as you fold the panels the right way, it works fine. There is a magnetic strip along the edge of the cover that secures the folded cover in position.

This must be the slimmest way of protecting the back and front of the ipad air and it fits snugly and securely into the case, but the edging of the case has already began to crack and I wonder how long it will be before it completely falls apart. The edges of the cover are getting worn and look a bit untidy too.

I have the beige case and it is beginning to look grubby and marked, even though I try to take care of it. It's an attractive case, but I just can't see it staying that way for long.

I will keep using it until it doesn't work. I would not advise people to buy this, particularly for the price. When my case falls apart completely, I will invest in a Smart Cover and some kind of sleeve to protect the beautiful aluminium back of this ipad air when not in use.

Good Case but a little expensive

    • Written by from Clevedon

I have tried to buy cheaper cases from online sites but have found most of them do not fit well.
So I went for the apple case although it is a bit more expensive it fits well and I don't get any problems with it falling over. At the end of the day if your spending over £500 on an ipad its worth getting the correct case for it. It looks good and does the job its intended for.

    Almost £70 for what?

    • Written by from LONDONDERRY

I feel cheated. This case is certainly not worth the money. It feels like plastic. Not leather. It's easily marked too. The good thing is that it fits snugly. It would need to at the price they are charging.

    iPad Air Smart Case

    • Written by from Swansea

A little expensive for what it actually is but nevertheless a very well made quality item (just as you'd expect from Apple !). More than happy with my purchase and unlike some other reviews I haven't had the problem with my iPad falling over. I would recommend this case if you have an iPad Air (even though it's expensive).

    Just buy it.

    • Written by from Brownhills

Ok, I'll go mad if I read another review that states it falls over when using the stand feature. The first time I tried, it half collapsed, but after my second attempt it was solid. You have to feel for the magnet engaging. It is very expensive, hence 4 and not 5 star review. Is it worth it? Totally. It feels and looks great when fitted and spending £65 is far better than worrying about scratching the back and bezel around the screen. Far classier than an aftermarket case. Fits like a glove. You'll love it.

Beautiful looking but some design flaws

    • Written by from ISLEWORTH

This is a great looking case. Looks very professional. Fits the Ipad Air like a glove.
It's a premium priced product due to the leather used.

However, two things make it not worth recommending.

The concertina cover doubles as a stand. but it doesnt fold very well. unfortunately over time i think it will fail.

The concertina cover also marks the screen. The ridges in the case lie on top of the screen and cause marking. So you see two feint lines across the screen at certain angles or when light falls on it. Easily rubbed off with a lint free cloth. But it just shouldn't do this.

A shame as otherwise it looks the business.

    Great case but pricey

    • Written by from Carlisle

Perfect case for my iPad. Looks great and works fine! This case helps maintain the iPad air lightness, unlike other cases on the market which I found to bulky! The case does not slip down if you fold it correctly ;-) as a hint there is a mag strip that holds it when trying to fold it as a stand. Only 4 stars due to the price point, this could have been retailed at a lower cost..

Gutted about the 65 pounds I spent on this case. Feel ripped off. Feels poor quality and I have the same issue as everyone else ... IT doesn't work! It falls over rather than standing up. DONT BUY IT!
