Apogee Duet USB Audio Interface for iPad, iPhone, and Mac

  • Overview

The award-winning Apogee Duet combines an audio interface, headphone amp, and MIDI interface that makes it a snap to create professional recordings in any location on your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, or Mac. Incorporating Apogee's legendary digital audio conversion and world-class mic preamps, Duet is the best way to capture your music with incredible dimension and detail.

    Legendary Apogee sound quality

From the mic preamps to the AD/DA converters and the clocking, Duet utilises cutting-edge Apogee technology. With components carefully selected in critical listening tests and a highly efficient circuit design, Duet was built by Apogee engineers to make a difference you can hear.

    Full-colour OLED display

Duet's primary visual control center is a full-colour OLED high-resolution display. It gives you clear visual feedback for numerous essential functions, such as metering, numeric value for input and output levels, group, phase, muting, phantom power and Soft Limit indication.

    Configurable touch pads

Two configurable touch pads on either side of the multi-function controller knob let you promptly manage such output functions as “mute output," “dim outputs," or “sum to mono.” And there's a drop-down menu that lets you assign each one within Apogee's Maestro iOS and Mac application.

    MIDI on iPad

Duet provides a single USB MIDI connection for your CoreMIDI compatible keyboard, synth or DJ controller. On iPad, Duet's MIDI connection allows both Duet and a keyboard or DJ controller to be connected at the same time to the iPad's single 30-pin dock port (or via the Lightning connector using an Apple Lightning to 30-pin adapter).

    DC power charges iOS devices

With a direct digital connection and an external power source, Duet is able to charge your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch while you record so you won't experience any interruptions.

    Audio Plugins from Waves

Duet also includes the Waves Silver Software Plugin Bundle, an amazing comprising 16 essential plugins for reverb, compression, equalization, and more.

      Portable High Quality

Excellent sound quality compares to the best rack mount interfaces in terms of preamps and general sound quality . Price is a bit high, but you get what you pay Excellent sound quality compares to the best rack mount interfaces in terms of preamps and general sound quality . Price is a bit high, but you get what you pay for. If you are looking to record on an iPad or iPhone this is the perfect solution. It is the only device on the market that allows you to charge your i Pad while using it, all others (there are a few high grade interfaces that work with ios) you would need to stop working and wait to recharge, that would just kill any ideas or musical inspiration you have if for that one time you forgot to recharge. I found that the latency is great! You can play guitar or sing without any delays, even on an iPad 1 is usable. All in all don't waist your time to look and compare if you want portability, quality and peace of mind not having to recharge all the time then there is no contest, the only thing is the price tag.

With it's built in headphone amp and AD/DA converter you get that clean crisp sound that will make any audiophile smile. The beautiful design of the product with its full OLED display really makes it pleasing to the eyes. All it's other features like charging your iPhone/iPad while it's connected and of course having the capability to record, produce and mix professional quality music with this simple product make it one of the best investments I have ever made.

I sometimes use it just to listen to music and love it. Second, the design is beautiful. Very Apple-like: simple elegant. Third, it is easy to use. Great integration with a Mac (esp. via the Maestro software). Fourth, the integration of MIDI with the most recent generation is huge—in fact, I sold a previous version and bought this version just for the MIDI. Very handy, esp. when you have a limited number of USB ports. Fifth, very mobile: easy to bring with you for mobile recording. I highly recommend it.

It constantly drops out and then has to relocate itself, clicks, stutters and will reassign monitoring to different channels at random. It is far from the seamless Apple experience you expect for a $1000 plus sound card. My experience with Apogee support has been less than satisfying and as the product is a year old I am expected to pay a $35 service fee to speak to anyone at Apple about the issues I am having. Until these issues are resolved I could not in good conscience recommend this product.

      First impressions

Connected to ipad no problem - sounded excellent on iTunes. Took some time to get I maschine playing through it. Sounds great - massively unstable. Display s Connected to ipad no problem - sounded excellent on iTunes. Took some time to get I maschine playing through it. Sounds great - massively unstable. Display screen freaks out randomly, Eg showing text backwards, screen switching off. Changing settings on maestro had varying success. It seems if you want to change something you need to unplug every time and plug back in. Lame. Did I mention it sounds great? Need to sleep on this one.
