Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter (for MacBook Pro with Retina display)

  • Overview

The 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone trips over it, the lead disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Pro stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.

Not sure if this is the right power adapter for your Mac?

Knowing which specific Mac model you have is important. If you are running OS X Lion (10.7) or later, go to the “” menu at the top left of your screen, choose “About this Mac” then click the “More Info...” button. Your Mac model and generation will be displayed.

If you are running an earlier version of OS X, you can enter your serial number here to find out which model you have.

      Magnet not Strong Enough

The Original T, The L, and now MagSafe 2 with my MBP Retina display. I am a fan of the T design but the magnet holding it in is way to weak. I don't know if it is because its smaller profile, but I can barely touch my laptop without the thing falling out. It is becoming extremely annoying to the point where I might need to walk around with a brand new MBP with its power cord duct taped to it! I believe the magnets are in the systems itself but please Apple come out with a revised adapter with a second set of neodymium magnets in the charging tip to counter act the problem and grab the machine tighter. I'd rather it be bulkier and work properly. I understand the point that is supposed to break away, but not by a feather landing on it! We miss Steve Jobs. I hope this isn't the type of product glitches we will have to get accustomed to now. Apple is supposed to be Apple, This isn't Apple at all.

If other companies are able to create durable chargers (my old Sony laptop and the charger STILL WORKS!), I expected Apple to make better chargers, especially seeing as I've paid over twice the amount for my macbook. You guys probably do this on purpose so that customers are forced to buy another charger and spend money but this is a terrible thing to do. Now I have to spend extra money of a new charger UGH. I will no longer be purchasing Apple products in the future, I stopped with the phone a long time ago and now it's time to say bye to the MacBook.

Short Life - Big Price Tag!

It has had very light use due to mainly working from my desktop Mac and this mainly for home or travel if needed. I have literally probably not even had this into charge 50 times and the adaptor has now gone and will not charge the laptop at all. Really dismal effort from Apple with the adaptors for most of their stuff. Annoying that your products let your customer down when they need them the most and in the end have to go spend £65 on a new adaptor that has had little use at all from a big price tag item.
