    Ultrafast 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

With 802.11ac technology and a powerful beamforming antenna array, AirPort Extreme gives you up to 3x faster Wi-Fi and a stronger, clearer signal.1 And because it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest performance possible.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-design

    Designed with performance in mind.

With the antennas at the top of the elevated design, AirPort Extreme now has a higher platform for dispersing the signal. We also increased the number of antennas. There are now six of them — three for the 2.4GHz band and three for the 5GHz band. Together with 802.11ac technology, they let you connect faster, farther, and with more power than ever before.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-setup

Easy setup for iOS and OS X.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to AirPort Extreme and use the built-in setup assistant to create your new wireless network in just a few taps from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If you’re using a Mac, use the built-in AirPort Utility. Setup is just as fast and just as easy.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-share

Share your hard drive or printer.

AirPort Extreme can turn any external USB hard drive into a secure drive you can share across your Wi-Fi network. So all the documents, videos, photos, and other files instantly become available to anyone, Mac and PC users alike. You can even connect a printer and share it wirelessly.

      Fast and Furious...

That would I usually do not write reviews on apple.com but had to on this new device. Frankly, I have often been under whelmed with new and improved products. That would be the case for the previous gen Airport Extreme. It seemed a little better than previous gen but no earth shattering progress. Not true with this new iteration of the Airport Extreme. 1. setup. Simply begin by plugging it in. Then pull up the setup menu via utilities and Airport. It will tell you to unplug the cables from your old Extreme and plug into the new. Once you do that it just takes over and transfers all your connection info. It took about 10 minutes because after it had copied my settings over it downloaded a firmware update. 2. speed. I have a 60mbs hard wired connection. My house is around 3,000 square feet all on one level. My office is located in one corner. The opposite corner diagonally from this room is where we have a media room. In that room my speed tests using macbook air, Kindle hd, cell phones, etc... showed a consistent 15mbs. I also would have times when using either my apple tv or roku box.......and then using a wireless tablet etc..... where the speed would slow down to the point where the connection would be lost. This is history. I now get a constant 30-40mbs using internet speed test in the same room. A BIG jump. Very happy

Excellent range, superb speeds, quick and easy set up, looks great. Supports local loopback feature which I really needed, the old standard package router I used to use has nothing on this new AirPort Extreme. Looking forward to using 802.11ac devices with it. Highly recommended, overall a great buy.

Delighted so far, setup was straightforward, done in less than 10 minutes from opening the box. Gigabit ethernet is delivering the full bandwidth from my cable modem for the first time and the wireless coverage is uniformly excellent in my thick walled and three storey Victorian terrace, noticeably quicker for my n capable devices. I don't have any ac devices yet to test those even higher speeds. Wireless sharing of a Kodak printer also working as hoped. Happy to recommend - nice job Apple.

I've had various routers for 26 years and this is the best one so far. My internet provider is Xfinity and I rarely lose the wifi connection. As long as Xfinity is up all my networked devices have great and fast wireless connections via 2.2Ghz, and a 5Ghz channel as well as a guestnet channel at 2.2Ghz all with download speeds of 120mbps. The signal for the 2.2 channel easily goes through 3 walls to the frontyard where I still get 20-40 mbps, and my tenant in the backyard studio 50 ft away from the router gets a strong 50mbps signal. I use no extenders. Did I say I'm happy ;-)

I have tried multiple times to set up an extender that is not an Apple product and of course it was not compatible, as far as security goes it is fine. Even under the advanced settings there is not a lot to work with, I can barely view what devices are on my network. In addition to this, if I did not want someone on my network I do not have the power to kick them off even as admin, which is very disappointing.

There was also lag with other devices averaging 30mbps. Installed this with a few clicks, and was humming along at 76mbps, which is the SAME speed when using ethernet! AppleTV improved to 65mbps. Issue resolved.
